  1. Hello, I don't know if these will help (and I'm not even certain it's an ALQ-119), but if you think they might, I can get you larger versions of them. I'm traveling, but I should be able to get them in about a week, and possibly sooner.
  2. It could be that, or that I handle it too much when applying, or something else, or some combination. I'm in SoCal, which is relatively dry, but probably not as dry as Las Vegas.
  3. First, my usual disclaimer: I'm not very good at this. 🙂 I have worked a little bit with the white Tamiya tapes, and they do work well when putting them on, being flexible and adjusting to curves, but I find that they can lose adhesiveness after a while, and start peeling up. I found that to be an issue if I am doing something that can take a while, and the masking starts coming loose at the edges partway through (like masking a canopy and then painting different layers that require the canopy to be masked the entire time). I am now testing out some liquid mask, so I
  4. Here's a discussion about it in the Jet Modeling section. I'm not sure it has the answer to your question, but you may read it there first:
  5. Thanks again for the info! When asking about it at the LHS their information was a little confusing, but they said the AK would be the same as the Tamiya acrylics, and said I could thin it with the Tamiya acrylic thinner, but it sounds like that may not be the case. My concern would also be keeping the type consistent so using washes, etc., would not impact different paints differently. I only used the AK flat black with a brush for some small parts and noticed the smell, and I was OK with that, but wondered if it was really the same as the Tamiya.
  6. Thanks, I just found that brand at my LHS, and bought some flat black. I've already used some of my mix on my current build, so I'll stick with that for now for consistency, but will definitely look at their stuff for next time. Thanks again!
  7. Yes, very cool pic. I'm hoping to see it this fall and get a few pics of my own, but I wouldn't be surprised if a different plane is sent to the Miramar show.
  8. Thanks, looks like that paint job goes at least as far back as 2019, so I just haven't been paying attention 🙂
  9. Very cool, I didn't know any masks had been made. I'm hoping they bring it to the Miramar air show this year, as the Viper team is scheduled to be there.
  10. Apologies if this has been posted and I missed it. I don't think the USAF ever had a special paint job for the general demo team. I can see this being a very popular build option, aside from the complexity. https://www.newsairshow.com/headlines/2022/12/13/f-16-viper-demonstration-team-announces-2023-schedule
  11. My understanding is, it's both: Available day one on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows 10/11, and Steam. Coming 2024. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: The Next Generation of the Legendary Franchise - Microsoft Flight Simulator
  12. Necroing this old thread, seemed the best place for this. New version of Microsoft Flight Simulator announced, looks interesting:
  13. Nice! I love all the vapor shots, and I haven't seen many vapor shots of the F-35. It's also cool to see the amphibious stuff, it's kind of like the MAGTF at Miramar, but with the ocean.
  14. Checking the YouTube channel, nothing new has been posted in 5 months, so I just hope everyone is OK.
  15. Thanks Jeff! I had seen that, and I guess that's why it's not available on gog.com any longer, and I'm anxious to see what they come up with .
  16. As we're talking about other sims, one option is Falcon 4.0 with BMS. Technically, BMS is a stand-alone application, but due to copyright status, they require that you own Falcon 4.0 to install. The graphics are not as good as DCS or MSFS, but it is a fairly detailed F-16 sim (and they've added a few aircraft recently), offers good performance, a good multiplayer experience, and a dynamic campaign instead of just a bunch of individual missions. About the same level of complexity as the DCS F-16, I would say. Steam link for Falcon 4.0 (a whopping $7): https://store.steampowered.c
  17. I saw this posted on another site and thought I'd share: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/shockwaves-bend-light-around-transonic-f-35c-in-spectacular-images
  18. VR is a different animal than TrackIR. TrackIR has a much lower hardware requirement and is easier to implement, but doesn't offer the stereoscopic 3D views that VR can provide. With TrackIR, you're still basically sitting in front of your PC looking at your monitor, but your head movement is tracked to change the view, so you can pan the view and look around by just moving your head. As mentioned, it exaggerates the movement so you can pan to view behind you while still being able to look at the monitor ahead of you, but you adjust to that and can usually tell where something is
  19. TrackIR is a head-tracking sensor that allows you to look around in the sim by just moving your head. It exaggerates your motion so you can always be looking at the monitor but it can pivot the view to look all around, even behind you, in the game. It increases the immersion and also makes it much easier to keep your eye on your target, etc., while playing. It connects via USB and uses some kind of lighting to sense the motion (either a reflector clipped to a hat or a device that attaches to a headset if you wear one while playing). https://www.trackir.com/
  20. Just as a quick follow-up on this, I was looking for light ghost gray (fs 36375) in acrylic, and was hoping to find it at my LHS, but the only acrylic they had was from Mission Models. Tamiya doesn't make it in their standard acrylic line, but I found that if I mix their white (X-1 or XF-1) with a small amount of their Medium Blue (XF-18) I seem to get something close enough to light ghost gray for me to use. I sprayed it on bare plastic and it's solid and doesn't come off easily. It's nice to not have to buy some extra primer nor have an extra layer of coating that might impact p
  21. Yes and yes :). Flanker from the 80s and 90s was the basis for Lock-On, and Lock-On was somewhat the genesis of DCS. it's evolved a lot since then, though. Flaming Cliffs for DCS is basically the same as Lock-On, with the same aircraft, some of the same missions, etc., it's just been updated for the new graphics engine and some flight model improvements. Those aircraft don't have the same level of detail as the newer ones that are dedicated study-versions, like the F-14, F-18, F-16, etc.
