  1. Amazing pictures, really well done and beautiful.
  2. Fantastic photos Ken! Love the flare shots.
  3. Yes, very nice photos - beautiful captures of both aircraft. The Mirage shots really stand out for their beauty and graceful lines. The KC-160 stands out for looking pretty tired <_<
  4. This is a great thread! Love the size comparisons and photos, and exciting news from Round 2 as well -- especially happy to hear about the new Reliant and BoP releases.
  5. Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. I had forgotten that I had taken some static shots with a small point-an-shoot camera, and I thought a few of them might be of interest around here. I thought the Mustang with the access panels removed was especially interesting.
  6. Thanks IrishGreek. They always have a great lineup, and it's difficult to really capture what it's like to be there watching 10+ P-51s take off in a photo, but I enjoy capturing what I can. Here's round 3: And the N-9M Flying Wing made a surprise performance:
  7. The Planes of Fame museum had their annual air show about a week ago, and though it was hazy and the lighting was challenging, the show itself was amazing (as usual), with an astounding array of rare aircraft.
  8. Ken, that is a really exceptional scratch build - very impressive work!
  9. Most sims these days have a wide range of performance options that will allow them to run on lower end hardware, but without a lot of eye-candy, up to brining the latest and greatest hardware to its knees. I'd guess that a US$500 system would handle FSX at some basic settings for flying, and still look fairly good, but if I crank the graphics and terrain detail up it will still overpower my new i7 930 system. Typically speaking, sims are more CPU limited than GPU limited, so a medium quality video card should be sufficient if you have a beefy CPU, assuming you don't need a lot of anti-aliasi
  10. Felt it in San Diego, too. Good, long shake, had a few loose items settle, but nothing more. I hope everyone else in the area is OK.
  11. Just for the record, Canon L lenses are a label for a series in quality, not mount or compatibility. The EF mount started in 1987, and just about every Canon DSLR will use all of them. The EF-S is the more recent model made for crop sensor cameras. The 1.6 crop sensor cameras will use both EF and EF-S, while the larger sensor cameras will only use EF. At this point, you only have to worry about two types of Canon lenses, unless you're using lenses older than 1987.
  12. I don't remember the details, but I think the name comes from the initials of people involved with starting it up, or something like that.
  13. Yeah, I remember that happening. Alas, KGB cut corners and Dave Rickards, along with all of the DSC crew, are gone now.
  14. I have Canon gear and have been very happy with it. I have also used their service and it has been exceptional for me. That said, every company is going to make service decisions that are wrong or don't please some of their customers, so I don't think switching to Canon will make you immune from this sort of thing. I've heard other Canon owners complain of service issues, so I doubt there's any company you can use to avoid it. Switching systems can be expensive and a hassle, so I'm not really sure it would be worth it. If you do switch, and have any Canon questions, feel free to ask, thou
  15. I'll probably end up picking one of these up, but none of the Vipers in the new BSG looked as good as the originals, in my opinion.
  16. Thanks Randy, I was kind of bummed both shows were on the same day, as I would like to have attended both, but Riverside was closer to me so I went for that one. Wind has been an issue for the last three shows I've seen in the area - Nellis in November, El Centro two weeks ago and now these two.
  17. Thanks mason, I wondered about that, based on the "bird slicers" on F-16s, but wasn't sure. Were you by that speaker right by the Super Hornets? I was just to the right of it, as you're facing the flight line, trying to stay far enough out from it to keep from losing my hearing. I was amazed that people would let their kids go right up and sit down in front of it, just didn't seem safe for their long-term hearing.
  18. And the last few - Super Hornet shots Super Hornet take off Super Hornet fly-by Legacy Flight
  19. Alfonse, aka g0commando, has already posted some of his photos, but I was in a different spot and was able to get a few different angles. A SH with a PT Cruiser for scale C-17 Performance Take Off I don't think I ever found out what that square bump on the front of the Super Hornet does I think this would have been better if they hadn't had the rudders full-right F-86 take off Phantom fly-by Phantom in afterburner Heritage Flight
  20. Nice pics, and it looks like an action-packed show, too. I was just at the Riverside air show, and they had a Phantom in the heritage flight too, and one at Yuma from what I understand, so it looks like they're making the rounds. That old and new cargo flight is pretty cool too!
  21. No. I was down by the Super Hornets. I had been up on the hill in years past, and decided to try a different spot this time, and I think it turned out well.
  22. Nice pics, Alfonse! GreyGhost it was Riverside, I believe. I was there too, and it was definitely windy.
