  1. Sitting here wondering how our folks in the after market industry master seamless intakes when there aren't kit parts of the full intake available. Trying to wrap my mind around it in the hopes of trying it one day for an oddball project.
  2. It's Airsoft so the terrorists aren't killed, just discouraged.
  3. Apparently so... http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/gwh/kit_gwh_4806.shtml#.UOnXrW-7M4I
  4. I'm not nearly the rivet counter that some are, but the stab slot support issue, etc. really was a stupid mistake on Academy's part. The refueling probe door is less so, because it is easier to correct. The burner cans..well that's just sad. With the mountains of documentation as well as real subjects available, these issues (and now the market opening for after-market corrections) is frustrating for modelers who are into the details and pay big money for these kits. I understand that from the perspective of folks who just like to build the kits, it may be insignificant, but for those who car
  5. During my seven years of service in the Army, that was one of my main points of contention regarding women serving in the military at all. If you want the same pay, same benefits, and same promotion opportunities, then you should meet the same physical qualifications/PT standards, regardless of MOS or gender. In truth, some women with whom I served met or exceeded the PT standards for men. I had a great deal of respect for them and their service. On the other hand, others seemed to always be pregnant and spent PT walking in tennis shoes...
  6. We needs decals of its, my precious!
  7. Thanks, Curt. Though I have a particular affinity toward Spam, I will avoid sending same. Will drop you a line separately.
  8. ...and if it will strip off lacquer-basesd paints and acrylics, it will likely strip off MM enamels
  9. "Coonass Militia" Phantoms! Love it! When the "Coonass" moniker became politically incorrect, the LA Air Guard did everything in it's power to wipe that period of their history from the map. Kinda makes me mad. I'm Cajun and my family has been in Louisiana since the 1700's. Dad rode around with an "RCA" sticker on his truck for years and no one ever thought anything of it. Microscale did decals for the gray birds with the "Coonass Militia" in a script stencil format (blanks in the lettering), but their SEA camo birds had solid script text. Would love to see the SEA/gray under camo bird that
  10. On a recent project (Minicraft 1/144 scale Delta MD-82), I totally doofed the paint job. In order of application, I had painted it with Tamiya rattle-can gray primer, Tamiya Gloss Black (primer for Alclad areas), Alclad, then Tamiya gloss white on the upper fuse and tail. In my rush to complete by a self-imposed deadline, I grabbed the blue painters tape, masked off the Alclad, and sprayed the white. When I tried to take off the tape, it pulled up sections of Alclad and the gloss black underneath. I tried to sand, buff and respray the Gloss black and Alclad and it just didn't work. So, I wante
  11. Last night I got one of those "returned as undeliverable" emails when I tried to shoot an order quote request to Sierra Hotel Models using the email address on (Curt's?) site. Is SH still in business?
  12. Just look at the reviews... http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Rev1/301-400/Rev347-KangnamF-18-Henthorn/00.shtm http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal5/4201-4300/gal4268_F-18_Horvath/00.shtm
  13. As a member of Central Texas Scale Modelers Society (an hour north of Austin), I had the honor of knowing Phil and enjoying both his fellowship and his modeling skills. He indeed was a gentleman. Once, when there was a misunderstanding about something he said, I had the opportunity to speak with him directly and "clear the air". He was a professional and gentleman throughout. He will be sorely missed in the modeling community. It was only a short time ago that ASMS had their show down in Austin where his Buran Russian Space Shuttle was displayed. "Bondo" Phil, as others have said, was always
  14. I'll add my comment from the perspective of someone who has bought only one ZM kit - the P-51D and compared it side-by-side with the Tamiya offering. That being said, the caveat here is that this is my opinion and everyone has one. Whether one can recommend the ZM kits or not really depends on what you are looking for in a model. ZM kits as many know are well known for the high parts count attributable to the extensive detail that they include. Depending upon how you build the kit, the detail provided may be visible or it may be hidden. For instance, in the ZM kit, you get an engine block ha
  15. Greetings all. I suppose this line of questions is more up the alley of our decal and aftermarket manufacturers, but I'll throw it out there. 1st Question: I have a project I'd like to do that involves the A-10 Warthog, but the markings I want to do are notional. The nose graphic needs to wrap around in much the same way as the 23rd TFW shark mouth does, but a different animal, if you will. the trick is that I don't know how to design it so that will properly wrap around the nose of the aircraft. I guess I could hand-paint it, but what a chore! I'd like to be able to design a decal, print it
  16. Thanks Euge. As it turns out, my plans have changed and I am flying into Munich! So now I'm on a hunt for a good shop there!
  17. This is a call out to my fellow modelers in Bavaria: I will be traveling through Nürnberg on business next month and I am interested in finding a nice hobby shop in town. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. There are a couple of kits that seem as hard to find in the US as hen's teeth! Hoping I might be able to find them there. Many thanks, Stew
  18. Wow. Modeling definitely shouldn't be this stressful. It may be a moot point at this juncture, but may I offer this: - Use tungsten putty (available wherever they sell those wooden cub scout derby cars). Tungsten putty is as dense and heavy as lead, but malleable, so you can push it into just about any void. Plus (and a this is a BIG plus), lead is toxic and get get into your bloodstream through handling it. Tungsten is non-toxic. - Super glue, has a wonderful wicking capability - great when you want it to go someplace you can't reach, yet disastrous if not kept in check, as you have well
  19. Someone recently gave me a couple of the 1998 IPMS "SEMICON" decal sheets printed by "Flightline". I am wondering if anyone here may have the sheet that probably went with it showing profiles of the aircraft it covers and the associated scales. It looks like P-51's and aircraft from modern Navy VAW & VAQ squadrons. Also there are a couple of "N" numbers, so maybe the P-51's are actually CAF birds. If you have the reference sheet for these decals and would be willing to scan it into a PDF and e-mail it to me, please drop a PM. Thanks in advance, Stew
  20. Honza, your work and attention to detail are wonderful to view. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Will be praying for your leg to heal quickly. Cheers, Stew
  21. If it will make Kelly McGillis look better, go for it.
  22. I still occasionally see them transiting our airpsace here at Fort Hood. Of course, we have a refurb facility in Killeen and another one in San Angelo, so I'm sure I'll see the ole girl flying around for some time to come.
