  1. Very nice! I have an old -100 727...MPC I believe. Still looking for a nice scheme for it...
  2. in the event that there are any Cold War FAA buffs out there, I have a question: I acquired a Trumpeter 1/48th "Early" Wyvern kit, but there is also a "Late" Wyvern kit. What is the difference between the two? Thanks, Stew
  3. Good point about vendors and the upcoming NATS. Mike is a straight shooter. I can ping him on the side and have him check his inbox if you'd like. Stew
  4. I'll preface this by saying that this is only an opinion, but I ate at an In-and-Out Burger in Barstow, CA and was very disappointed. I got the double-double (double meat double cheese), fries, and a shake. The much-touted double-double was about the size of a double quarter-pounder at McD's. The shake was good, but not anything different from what I can get anywhere. The fries were so-so (McDonalds honestly makes better fast-food fries). It has a cult-like following in the Southwest, but IMHO, I found the burgers unspectacular and honestly a bit tasteless. Having said that, I understand th
  5. Ok folks, somewhere, somehow, somewhen over the past couple of weeks, I promised someone who was looking for U-2 decals that I would check my stash. I just forgot who it was and on which forum! If you're out there, help an up-and-coming ole fart remember and drop me a PM... lol :-\ ??? :D Stew
  6. Guys, FWIW, the AZ molds are former Grand Phoenix molds with added goodies. Jon Vojtech at Unique Master Models right here in the good ole USA sells two different releases (same kit diff decals) for under $50. Quite a deal! http://umm-usa.com/onlinestore/product_inf...aafc176a1666312 http://umm-usa.com/onlinestore/product_inf...aafc176a1666312 I bought one with the VF-61 "Jolly Rogers" decals soon after he started carrying them and I am well pleased. Considering that the Hobby Boss release will likely be more expensive, if you don't mind multi-media kits, I'd snap up the AZ kit in half a he
  7. Big guns, small guns. Doesn't matter. I know we have a guy here who always gives us the latest scoop from Trumpeter, but there are others out there. I'm sure the bigger ones have either a department or a person doing HR/PR who could be sourced to do this. Granted, they would probably want to maintain a presence in forums like BritModeler, ARC, FSM, and IPMS, and that would take some doing. But, it would be a great place for manufacturers and other entities to interface directly with modelers vs. only interfacing with distributors at trade shows. I like your thinking Steve. That opens it up to
  8. Not limited to the AF. What about the Army's decision to move the entire Armor school from Ft. Knox to Ft. Benning? I just came from Benning, and the money being spent on infrastructure there to accomodate the Armor school is mind-boggling!
  9. Beautiful decal sheet! Might have to add this one to the hangar!
  10. I fly Continental quite often and you have really captured the elegance of both the aircraft and the paint scheme!
  11. Assuming the loadout is symmetrical, boy she's loaded for bear!
  12. Beautifully designed web site, by the way. I just tried to drop a decal sheet in the cart and when I went to check out, it wasn't taking the 20% off using a plain old credit card either. I'm looking at the following sheet: Microscale 1/48 F-86E "The Huff" Lt. Thompson 51st FIW "Beautious Butch II" Col. McConnell 16th FS (sheet 48-0102). PM me a total shipped to 76542 and I can do PayPal. Stew P.S.: Are you going to be making the Texas contest circuit?
  13. I use Tamiya thin and THANKFULLY, my LHS had a restock and I grabbed a jar. Of course, I had to do this earlier than expected cause I knocked a nearly full jar off a table onto the carpet... As far as the putty goes, as much as I like it, getting restocked became too undependable, so I switched back to an old favorite - 3M acryl blue glazing putty.
  14. I haven't been a members of this forum for eons, but I have hung around for a while and I've noticed that the companies represented in the manufacturers forums has stayed the same. I personally find it one of the best places to interface with folks who make the stuff we buy. So, I'm wondering why more manufacturers haven't come on board? Do they stay away for a reason? Do they prefer to just lurk and passively read posts? Have they not been invited to join? I for one would love to see this particular part of the ARC forums to grow. How do you folks feel about this? Would you like to see mor
  15. I went a couple of years ago. As an Army contractor, I have a "military" common access card. They were a little hesitant, but let me in. Otherwise, I would have had to take the bus, and unfortunately, you have to leave with the same group you arrived with. One hour just wasn't enough time to document the aircraft they have there a the annex.
  16. I've had cheese curd (yum). I've had fries (who hasn't?) and I've had gravy? Throw it all on a plate? I'm game, but only if it gets sprinkled with crumbled bacon... :P
  17. I did this with the last aircraft model I completed and I really liked seeing the finished aircraft in it's element. So, I have to agree with you there. You did a great job of capturing the action. What did you use for a base? Stew
  18. Unfortunately , the only in-service F-14 I ever saw was an "A" back in the 80's and it was a static display at an airshow. I never saw one fly Next time was a couple of years ago at the U.S.S. Alabama museum. Again, it was a static display. Still, the lines of that bird are so cool.
  19. Brilliant Daryl. I couldn't say it better myself. 22 years of marriage (27 together) and My wife understands that my hobby helps me unwind and express my creative side, since I have a job where creativity is really not needed. I have also found that I can pull out a TV tray and do a bit of modeling while I hang out with her, but there are times when she wants quality time and closeness, and at those times, the modeling goes to the sidelines.
  20. With a Biggs Darklighter figure to boot! Nice! Which kit?
  21. Buddy, it's a hobby. You can put it down and you can pick it up. It will always be there waiting for you. Your new child on the other hand... you get one shot. One shot to be a great dad. One shot to make a difference. One shot to take this little miracle of creation and mold him/her into a positive member of society and a joy to you and your wife in your silver years. In short, you have an opportunity to build something better than a model... ...a legacy Don't screw it up.
  22. In '92 when I was leaving on a PCS move from Italy, I took all the models I had build and repaired after the move there, and I gave them to this 14 year old Italian kid in my apartment building who spoke decent English and helped me out with getting the lay of the land while I was there. Came back to the states and started from scratch, and you know what? That was okay by me...
  23. Rick, I'm pretty sure that I have the decals from the old Testor's U-2 kit in my stash at home. I'm just not sure if they're the black U2 or the NASA U-2 decals. I am on TDY at Fort Benning, GA this week. Drop me a PM to remind me and I'll look when I get back. If I have 'em and they're for the black scheme, they're yours. Stew
  24. Honestly, if I were to do a Turbo-Porter (which I will in the future), I'd want to see decals for airframe #802. It was used by the US Army Berlin Brigade and later transferred to the Golden Knights before a fatal mid-air: http://www.pc-6.com/history/802.htm
  25. Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
