yeah - while the fit was decent I was not really happy with the surface details of their Spitfire II - just seemed very heavy sunken rivets on the fuselage. But as said, even with that the price point is so low compared to competitors it is more difficult to really bash the kit and not pick one up as otherwise it is pretty good. Hoping that the Mustang has more restrained riveting (so far looks good)
  2. Thanks all - yeah chemo is a real PITA but now through 8 of 12 sessions so on the downward leg hopefully. Did get some work done this morning on the Intruder - wheel bays done enough to attach the 2nd wing and have committed to gluing the fuselage halves together partially. Started at the nose as I had a pretty rough fit here but I do kinda like that the join line is not on the nose-cone panel line so I can fill and sand with abandon without having to re-scribe that bit...

Yeah the barracuda stuff looks great and probably will fit the new kit - if not I have no doubt Barracuda will tweak their existing sets to fit the Revell.....

Yeah - when I first saw they were doing yet another 1/32 D mustang I was kinda meh about it - for petes sake do we need another 1/32 D, why not a B model instead, blah blah, but I can see space for this kit as it is cheap, so far looks really solid in the detailing and is great "no frills" option vs the Tamiya and ZM kits. I expect they sell a bunch of them and at 27 bucks I will likely get at least one unless there are some major problems that turn up with it (seems unlikely at this point)
  5. Ha - thanks man - I did fix the mess I made of the exhaust area (melted it with my dremel) and have some progress on the second wheel well - if I can wrap up the well I should be able to close up the fuselage - maybe this weekend (tomorrow is chemotherapy day so not typically in a good state to work on models :P )
  6. I assume the pre orders are closed at this point or still possible to get one in?
  7. wow that is one finely done kit - kudos on such a nicely done Flanker!
  8. wow looking great and you are moving at top speed! My build hit a snag while I was dremel-ing out the area for the 2nd side resin exhaust - melted the plastic and made a right mess of it. Trying to recover from that but its hard to get the mojo going again!
  9. Yup those dang liberals always bad mouthing the cost of the F-35.. Weeks before being sworn in as president, Trump was vocal about an alternative to the Joint Strike Fighter, saying the “F-35 program and cost is out of control.” “Based on the tremendous cost and cost overruns of the Lockheed Martin F-35, I have asked Boeing to price-out a comparable F-18 Super Hornet!” he tweeted Dec. 22. After the speech Friday, Trump told reporters, “If the price doesn’t come down, we would” buy some F/A-18XTs to replace some F-35 orders. “The F-18’s a great plane and now put a s
  10. Ha - fantastic - the aftermarket for the 1/48 intruder is pretty good but wow is it time consuming to get to fit into the plastic! :)
  11. Thanks man - yeah fresh X-Acto blade and trimming resin to fit is dangerous - split my thumb pretty good. I do think the kit may be possessed already - so much work so far, but admittedly adding the resin aftermarket has complicated things. I am really close to being able to try to close the fuselage up though - just gotta finish the second wheel bay and tweak the fit of the exhaust pipe to fit better on this fuselage half....
  12. More work on the other fuselage half - gotta be more careful with carving the plastic and resin to fit - some real blood spilled here getting things to fit right lol
  13. yeah - I gotta rescribe that line on both sides - with all the messing with the exhaust opening/thinning the line is long gone lol
  14. Very cool - you jumped ahead of me (I only have one side exhaust done :) ) Note I think you may have the ends stuck out a little too far - check out pic:
  15. Anyone got this in their stash and wish to sell? Or just the VS-33 Screwbirds portion?
  16. Thanks man! Yeah the wing fit it flat out terrible out of the box - had to remove quite a lot of plastic from that sorta triangular forward bulge forward of the wheel bay. Its not exactly pretty but it worked out
  17. managed to finish the one wheel-bay and get the wing attached - looks a little rough but covers the gaping slot that Kinetic left there and the resin bay parts at least add some detail where there was none before Now just need to do the other side
  18. Yeah, I have the HB Intruder as well - actually several as the A-6 is my favorite jet, but I had started the Kinetic and had it in the stash forever so I kinda wanted to build it regardless of the problems I had heard about. Also, far as I know, it is the only kit with the composite wing required for about any Intruder post 1992-ish?
  19. Looking good! Yeah the fit on this kit is not great - seems like every major part you have to sand and tweak it to get anything close to a good fit....
  20. Thanks man! Hey, I found this awesome video/slide show of the VA-192 cruise that my subject is from - tons of good Skyhawk shots:
  21. First Hase A-4 I have built - goes together pretty nice so far!
  22. Ha - still tweaking the fit of the intakes but also some work on the aftermarket exhausts. They look pretty rough on the outside but only the very end will be seen. Had to dremel a huge area to get them to go in though as in pics below - lots of work but hoping it pays off! Also fitted the Wolfpack MLG wheel-well - fit was dicey. And Kinetic, whats up with the giant open slot in the bay there? Sheesh - gotta fill that in somehow....
  23. very cool and well done - totally rocks. Can't wait to start a Tamiya Tomcat - just have to get through a couple current build and its next! I would agree that it woulda been nice if they allowed building a few additional blocks etc. with whats in the box but ah well aftermarket will provide....
  24. And we have fuselage closure. Always feels like a big milestone to get to this point. Hope to have wings attached this evening...
  25. Thanks all for the positive feedback on the 'pit!! Dmold seamless intakes fitted - lots of plastic had to be removed by Dremel - probably need to still thin a little here and there
