  1. I'm working on a 1/48th P-47D Razorback that I am planning to be a natural metal finish paint scheme. The area that is directly behind the cockpit, on the fuselage but under the cockpit glass (know what I'm talking about?)....I can't determine if it should be natural metal, interior green, or something else. Anyone know? Does it matter, did they vary? I did some checking online, and looks like modelers have done both. Tried looking also for some color P-47 pics in some of my books, and I can't come up with a definitive answer.
  2. I was thinking of doing an early P-51D pretty soon.....and trimming the Hasegawa fin fillet off. Seems this isn't as easy as it seems though, is it guys? Any thoughts on it.....just go with Ultracast and Tamyia or try the Hasegawa cut....who has done it? Thanks.
  3. Looking for 1/48 scale 2.75 in rocket pods and Triple Ejector Racks for A-10 builds. Been informed there are some rocket pods in the in the 1/48 Italeri AH-1W and Roden OH-1 kits....or if you have them elsewhere. The TER's i only have seen in the Hasegawa weapons sets off hand. Have some 1.48 scale ordance or will pay. thanks.
  4. did you get your pods? i have a HB A-10 on my bench now, not using the shallow ones. lmk via pm.
  5. Hey, Looking to finish off a couple of 1/48 A-10s on the bench now, and would like to use some rocket pods (lau-68 or 131 i think?) and a Suu-25 flare pod seen in OIF/OEF. Any ideas? I know mentioned somewhere there's good rocket pods from a 1/48 Huey kit?.....the ones that come with the Italeri kit are too big, don't look right. And for the flares, currently don't know of anyone making that or included in any kit....what would be the best to use for a possible scratchbuilding (mainly want the right shape and size)? anything anyone can help with would be great, thanks. Brian
  6. And that's the major problem and why there will definitley be some things happening that are not in that document. Looks like Battle Creek is going to be a Reaper squadron, so I'm assuming they would just get control pilot stations there....but probably not aircraft? The 107th I don't see listed anywhere. When they decided to BRAC NAS JRB Willow Grove, they were just going to close the 111th FW of the PA ANG, but the state fought it and the ruled in favor of the state, that the federal government can't 'close' a state guard unit. But they still lost the A-10s, and the base is now closed.
  7. The full detailed proposal is out there. I put a link up in the thread about 5 a-10 squadrons being cut. Lots of changes, including cutting all c-27s and lots of c-130s.
  8. Full detailed proposal is up. Big changes, if they go through. http://www.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-120203-027.pdf Ft. Wayne, Selfridge, Ft. Smith, Barksdale, and either Spang/Osan lose A-10s. Des Moines loses F-16s. Several units lose a few KC-135s. C-130's being consoldated and some retired. C-27's are finished and C-5A's are done. Some units recieving C-17s to replace them. More Guard units get MQ-1/9 Reaper missions. Some get MC-12's. Definitley there will be units fighting this, so it will be interesting to see what really happens. But there it is, writing is is on the w
  9. Man the rumors are flying around.....A-10 units are stated, however, one of the non-stated ANG units just failed an ORI, which is kind of big.....who knows if that will have any influence....F-16 ANG unit looks to be Des Moines, IA but I also heard AC from a friend of mine in the guard. And personally....I agree that there needs to be cuts, I just think that the mismanagement is a major portion of the problem, and if that could be fixed we wouldn't be having to cut squadrons full of airplanes and most importantly, people. You can look at several 'botched' moves recently just as examp
  10. It's pretty crazy to think that there will only be 2 ANG A-10 units after all this. And it's so hilarious (from an operational, economic, and logical standpoint) to me that out of the 5 current units, 2 just went on their initial deployments within the last year or so (Ft. Smith and Selfridge), and one is still recieving aircraft (Ft. Wayne)....the BRAC and other cuts restructured the close down of units and start up of other units, only to get shut down soon after. About 100 jets will go to the boneyard with this move most likely.....and didn't most of them also just get upgraded with to C'
  11. thanks Jake. And it looks like they are only carrying a belly tank now rather than 'goofy' configuration too, is that right? Your superhornet book is the only one I don't have yet, was hoping to get it for christmas, but apparently my wife found some other presents for me. Looks like I will have to 'gift' myself soon!
  12. That's perfect, thanks Joe, think I got all that. So I can throw a Harpoon on, with a fuel tank or 2 and it works. And as far as SLAM, they were all converted to -ER's after the Superhornet was around, so back when there were SLAM's still, could the Superhornet carry it and what would a loadout look like? Same as the mentioned Harpoon, just that and some tanks? If I did any testing plane it would be a Salty Dog, but wasnt' thinking about one of those right now. Thanks though!
  13. Well that makes perfect sense now thanks!
  14. I did notice this as well, which I have seen in so many pictures, they seem to really like to leave off a pylon, or two, or three!!
  15. Thanks! Yeah, i've been all over navy.mil looking at generic superhornet shots, then searching squadrons, even weapons. Great resource to use. If not the SLAM-ER, what about the Harpoon or Slam? Any ideas on those, even if it's training? I can't find too much on them both, in regards to the SuperHornet.
  16. Hello, ok, so I have been searching the forums and internet, and I still have some loadout questions for the superhornet. I know, I know, it seems like this stuff comes up every other day! I have two I'm working on right now, and kicking around different ideas (as well as for future builds). I basically want to use some AGM-84's, whether they are D,E or H's. With the H (SLAM-ER), you need a data link pod (or another Hornet needs it, correct?). I saw alot of pics of legacy hornet's carrying Harpoons (d's) but didn't find anything really with Superhornet's carrying them. And as far
  17. Yeah I am sure I didn't mix up the bottles, I had just purchased them from my local hobby shop. I also am pretty sure I mixed them up pretty well too, guess I just got a bad batch. I'm thinking from now on I am going to 'test' them by spraying a little on some sprues and mixing in some white or black depending if its needed. Thanks for the replys, I might go ahead and try another brand as well, but convience and what I know are the main reasons I use MM.
  18. Went yesterday and today to spray down my revell 1/48 e superhornet.....using model master enamels.....ugh, the dark ghost grey was lighter than the light ghost grey. This has happen to me on more than one occassion, even once with gunzo's brand. This happen to anyone else? Or do I just suck at getting paints!?! And does anyone have any advice on mixing up paint colors to get the desired effect? Guess I have to respray it all over again.....
  19. Thanks Dave. You are right with the official closure date as well. Keep posting up your vintage shots too! I love seeing what the base used to be back in the day.
  20. Thanks everyone...it definitley wasn't the best of weather to shoot them in, but as I said before, the weather 'fit' the mood of the day. And yes, it was a very sad day, a lot of people know Willow Grove and the base and a lot of great memories people have from there.........I still get angry thinking back all the way to when the BRAC decision was made. As far as the museum goes, it's still up in the air. They just found out that they are allowed to stay there till May (which is like a month extension) but they are still fighting to keep it open, all depends I guess with what happens to t
  21. It finally came. On March 30, 2011, NAS JRB Willow Grove held it's Disestablishment and Final Flight Ceremony. It was a really sad day on Wednesday. They brought in several aircraft that were based at Willow Grove in the past, which I thought was pretty cool. This included a UH-1N and AH-1W from HMLA-773 in Johnstown, PA (they used to be based in WG, and are moving to McGuire in July), a MD ANG A-10 (flown by a former 103rd FS, 111th FW PA ANG pilot, who used to be based at WG), a centenial painted P-3 Orion from NAS Jacksonville, as well as the last former tennants which included a USN C-
  22. I have used both water and alcohol as a thinner and didn't have the problem. I have not used a qtip either and after I cleaned it out it looked clear and the gunk reappeared. I sprayed last nite w some oily scale acrylic and didn't have a problem. If it happens again I will try to take a picture or something....makes me wonder since no one else really has encountered this.
  23. I have a Badger Patriot 105 and I'm using Model Master Acrylics. I recently started having a clogging issue, but what I'm finding is that at the bottom of the cup, once i'm done spraying or i dump out the remainder, there seems to be almost a paper like material down there. It's small little 'globs', but seriously looks like ripped paper. I've tried 3 different bottles and had the same issue. Never had anything like that before, I do thin them a bit, and again, nothing I haven't done before where it worked. Now I also want to mention that the other night, I went to clean it out, and my
