  1. The Monogram would definatly be the better of the two kits. Although they were both released around the same time, the Revell kit was more "simple" than the Monogram kit. The Monogram kit exhibits all the qualities of a late 1970's/early 1980's Monogram kit (which in my opinion was state of the art at the time). Raised, petite panel lines, quite decent cockpit and wheel well detail, additional weapons depending on the release of the kit, and a wider selection of decals (If I remember correctly, the original issue included markings for 3 or 4 different aircraft from several different
  2. The plastic is the same as all the other issues of the old ESCI 1/48th Skyraider kit. All they did was leave out the AEW radome and put in a different decal set. It has the armor plating molded on.
  3. I must have been stiffing too much gloss white lacquer paint. I just looked over all my usual airliner supply places and, it seems as Jennings is correct...there is no 1/144 scale Eastern 747 listed anyplace!!! I have no idea what I might have seen. Looks like I'll be piecing a set together for the 747!! I humbly stand corrected!!
  4. If I understand correctly, there was no 1/144 scale set done for the Eastern 747's?? Several on-line retailers have a 1/144 scale set listed, but not in stock?? As a last resort, I'll have to cobble a set together from various other decal sets (not my plan, but it'll work)!!
  5. I am looking for a set of the Airways Graphics decal set for the Boeing 747 Eastern Airlines "Hockey Stick" scheme in 1/144 scale. I have the 1/200 set, but my entire "Hockey Stick" collection is in 1/144 scale. I cannot seem to locate a 1/144 scale set anyplace!!  Anyone have a set they want to part with (PLEASE!!!!). Just drop me a PM if you have one to part with..............THANKS!!!!!!!!!! Is there a reference on-line showing/listing all the aircraft that wore this scheme? Can anyone help with that??
  6. The 1/64th Lindberg B-58 kit is close to 50 years old. I believe it originally came out about 1959 or so and represented the prototype (not that there was much difference to the production version). It included all the latest gimmicks in vogue at the time. Movable control surfaces, retracting landing gear, opening canopies, removable panels, etc. One issue of the kit included a stand in which through a series of wire linkages running through the model to the display stand, you could actually "fly" the model with a miniature joystick (Lindberg did this with several of their kits way ba
  7. You could also try another piece of masking tape to remove the left over residue.....that has worked for me in the past.
  8. Thanks for the info gentleman!!! It looks like I'll be ordering right from White Ensign after all. They have a ship kit that I ordered also (USCG cutter my grandfather served on during WW2). Has anyone experienced any "problems" with the shipping of the paints from overseas now that they are classified as a "hazardous substance" (at least that is my understanding). I know of a few fellow modelers who had trouble in the past.
  9. I'm looking to get some White Ensign paints from a few upcoming soviet WW2 builds......I want to try out these paints as I have read good things about them (color accuracy, paint quality, etc). Is there a dealer in the US that stocks this line of paints or am I going to have to order direct from White Ensign models?? THANKS!!! :)
  10. The only issue of the Monogram F-18 Hornet with the open LEX slots (prototype style) is the original "White box" issue of the kit #5802 (the boxing you have) with a photo of the built up kit on the box in the prototype blue/gold markings. The kit also had all the other prototype features. This boxing dates from about 1979 or so and was molded in white plastic. The molding and detail on the original issue was quite crisp and sharp. The 5802 boxing is also the hardest boxing of the kit to find, and I have seen them go for $25 or more at times. The 5802 was the only boxing of the Monogr
  11. Years ago, my grandfather used to use maxi-pads to keep/remove the dust off of his antique car (and it was painted black, so any small scratches would stand right out). I would imagine that there are no chemicals, cleaners or foreign substances in one of those, just lint-free cotton. I have tried them in the past (ON MY MODELS!!!!!!) and they do seem to work quite well, and you don't have to worry about leaving any chemical residue behind that might mess up your paint finish. Depending on your personality, they might be a bit embarassing to purchase, but most of us have shopped
  12. I've tried the search function, but it don't seem to be working!! I'm looking to round out my Mustang collection, and was looking for the "H" version in 48th. I know both Classic Airframes and HiPM made the kit, what kit is the better of the two?? I know both have problems, but which one is the better starting point?? Was there any other 48th scale options available?? Where could one be found.....I believe both are now discontinued??
  13. If you search around (online auctions/used kit dealers/want ad here on ARC) , Fujimi did make an Argentinian A-4B/C kit, including the necessary additional airframe parts to build the Argentinian A-4Q and A-4P versions. It also included decals to build 5 or 6 different aircraft in various paint schemes. The only aftermarket decal set I know of specifically for the Skyhawk, was one set produced by Microscale/Superscale. I am pretty sure others were made....I just cannot remember who....it's too early in the morning right now!!
  14. Thanks for the information........of course you know what the next question is......WHEN will the decal set be available?? The South Korean aircraft is also quite interesting!!! I'll definatly be in for a set of the decals ASAP. Looks like I'll be building TWO of them now....option 1 and option 4.
  15. I have spent the last three hours searching the net for information on the Egyptian F-4E Phantoms. I found just about nothing useful modeling wise. I have the Hasegawa 48th scale F-4E kit (Pro-Modeler re-boxing.....was lucky and found a few in a discount/closeout store for $8.00 while on vacation visiting my parents.....bought every one they had....total of 5 and asked if they had more ) I would like to paint it up with the orange (yellow??) ID panels and bands on the grey scheme....problem is I can't find any decent pictures of the thing. What modifications (if any) nee
