  1. They're green, same as the rest of the aircraft. I've spent many an hour with my head in them fitting flotation gear.
  2. I could be they don't fly the display with full tanks to increase the performance margins. From what I understand of the F-16 from when I visited Homestead AFB, the twin stick viper can do almost everything the single seat can, obviously with a tad less fuel. ONe thing to remember though, if US groundcrews are anything like their UK cousins, half the fun of airshows was telling tall tales to the public. On more than one occasion I changed the tail code to a ficticious one. It was worth it to see the confusion on the aircraft spotters faces....hehe.
  3. The mighty Merlin in Norway and in Bosnia Kenya Doing the business in Iraq Theres a load more 28 Sqn stuff on youtube if you search.
  4. I was on the sales trip to Vandel when we took a Merlin up for the Danish ministers to look at, they were well impressed with our NVG capability. Was the dullest airbase I've ever been to in my life ! Thank goodness for our No3 Hyd failure and emergency landing in Belgium.....top night out Theres a load of different pics getting posted here and not many are the RAF Mk 3 version you are building. The most recent look like a Navy Mk1 version with dipping sonar gear and ASW console.
  5. The panel above your head in the Mk 3 I worked on was smooth and the bungees attach to a different position IIRC. Is that a 28 sqn Merlin, your flying kit doesn't look like the pax stuff we used and the crew seat on your right isn't a crash worthy seat ? Also I don't remembner those grab handles on the roof at the end of the door.
  6. One thing to note SP, when we serviced the Merlins, we always did the 4 point harnesses up and the lower part of the seat was folded upwards, it was held up by velcro straps. Also note that the two seats left and right nearest the camera are different, those are the crewmans seats. What you can't see in the pic are the steel cables that attach to the ramp attachment rings, halfway up the cable they attach to a bungy which takes up the tension in the cables when the ramp closes.
  7. http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1210...next_id=1210736 Here you go, one Merlin interior....... http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0871...next_id=0871238
  8. The tornado pilot got in the Chinook, Chinny pilot lifted into the hover cruised up to 4900 ft, then let his brakes off before continuing thru 5000 ft. :D B)
  9. The mark 3 soundproofing has built in pouch's for the troop headsets which runs the length of the cabin.
  10. Thats the navy version, colours are the same, but apart from that........
  11. http://www.bfo.no/index.php/offisersbladet...ye_terrorvpenet Above is a good pic of the Merlin DIRCM. From memory the interior is a mixture of hard and soft panels with various radio and other switches dotted around. The cabin floor is black and very uncomfortable when you are torque checking the 400 odd bolts that hold it down !!! Gun mounts I can't help you with, sorry, I left the RAF before we got them. I'll have a look at my manufacturers course notes and try and find some good pics. If you are doing the ramp open remember to put in the steel cables that stop it dropping too far in fl
  12. What do you want to know ? I was an aircaft engineer on 28 Sqn for 3 years. I was one of the team that brough the EH101 Mk3 into service with the RAF.
  13. Didn't know you existed ! I chose the name because I spent 5 years working on the Mighty Hunter at RAF Kinloss.
  14. If it were me it would be the ETPS rasperry ripple colours.
  15. Not only that, but if you look closely you can not only see the lift dump selected, but also the thrust reversers ! Very Odd. Tornados aren't that good, one got beaten in a brakes off to 5000 ft race by a Chinook !
