Thanks again. Absent other information I'm going to use the two ghost grays, 36375 and 36320. Looking at multiple pictures of this scheme it seems the darker of the two grays is still lighter than the radome, which should start out as 36270 (neutral gray).
-
Thanks, Andrew. The difference between 36373 and 36375 is not that much, so I'm willing to go TLAR (that looks about right) with the lighter of the two grays. The difference between 36320 and 36270 is a tad more noticeable, 36320 being bluer and lighter to my eye. Maybe I'm getting a little too much AMS here?

Considering entering a Thai F-16A done in the early scheme for the Far East group build. Can anyone tell me if this scheme is 36373/36320 as reported by decal maker Zotz (described as "Korean Air Force"), or 36375/36270 as reported by wings-aviation.ch? These are enough different that even in 1/72 I think the difference will be visible. Perhaps it was even something else?

Might still be OK for an in-flight build.

Very glad to hear this. Thank you! In the meantime I'll build an Bahraini F-16 using your 1/72 sheet.

Is this project still being done? I have a Destroyer ready to go into major assembly and could press forward if quality decals are forthcoming. Will this be natural metal, or camouflage? Which version or versions will be included?

Thanks, Jennings. This explanation seems as good as any. Not too hard to scratchbuild, at any rate. I did find a few photos of these on gray jets (Mask 10A asymmetrical scheme). According to the site they are located on, they were also involved in the JAWS program. LINK - one pod that we can see, painted gray. LINK - two pods, still in spotted camo. Borrowed from other a/c? LINK - the rear dome on this one is yellow or radome tan. The front one may be as well, but it is hard to see. Also of note is that this is a Davis-Monthan marked a/c, not Nellis.

Bump - can the Warthog experts please enlighten us on this subject?
-
Thanks, but volume-wise, I think you are off by an order of magnitude. boom175, you may be on to something with a range telemetry pod. Whatever this is, I don't know that I have seen a photo of it on any other aircraft but the A-10.

I see the A-10 Warthogs involved in the JAWS exercises often were equipped with one or two small torpedo-shaped pods on their wings. See photos: Photo 1 Photo 2 In both of these photos they are on stations 2 or 10, outboard of the LAU-88 with the Mavericks. I noted the 1/48 scale Italeri kit comes with these (see Brett Green's review HERE). However, I have never seen an explanation of what these pods are or what they are for. Can anyone tell me please? Were they carried past this set of exercises, or are they a one-off? Thanks in advance.

A brief write-up of the NAVPAC appears here. "The centerline pylon could be used to carry a "navigation pack (NAVPAC)" pod with radio beacon-tracking and distance-measuring gear for flights to USAF or civilian land bases whose navigation gear was different from that used by the Navy. "

1/72 F-4D "Terrible Tyke" 497th TFS, Ubon RTAFB 1972

Always remember it's YOUR model - if you build it to your own standards and get some enjoyment from it, it is good. Hope your modeling helps your healing process. -
The actuators went from two (2) to three (3) fingers at Block 40/42. Any Block 25/30/32 jet should have two.

Nice photos! Amazing how patchy CARC Helo Olive Drab can get. Almost as bad as Navy TPS.

I believe the yellow in question was a yellow adhesive tape. I remember seeing it on A-6s, S-2s, P-3s, and other subsonic Navy aircraft in this timeframe. I can only imagine it was there to protect the paint from erosion. It was often glossy to repel bugs, weathering, etc., but I wouldn't be surprised if it got flatter over time. Why it had to be yellow I don't know, maybe the material was something exotic that could not be colored gray to match the planes.

OK, well if anyone has pics of the 40/42 in HG5, please share!
-
That looks like an MBR (multiple bomb rack), the precursor to the MER. IIRC it did not forcefully eject the stores attached to it, causing safety hazards to the planes that used it. The MER added ejectors to each station, and the overall shape changed a bit. Here is a MER:

LF : These 1/72 Wolfpak decals
bdt13 replied to viking73's topic in The Spares Box - add scale to your title
PM sent on a few of these. -
So Speed Hunter Graphics has announced a 1/32 decal sheet with a 180th FW plane (block 42) in 5th Gen Have Glass paint. This is not a WHIF. Anyone have pics they can share of this bird? I had thought that this scheme was going to be confined to Viper units with a SEAD/DEAD mission. Has the mission of this unit changed, or is the scheme slated for wider use?

Glad I only paid $2 US for my Hasegawa kit. Looks like it will stay firmly on the shelf.

I do believe this photo shows three tanks. As another poster stated earlier, this is a legal load, but not a good idea as the extra drag negates the extra fuel.

Here's a photo with a Mk. 82 on the C/L: LINK Trial of a combat-coded fuel tank: LINK Deploying with a C/L tank and two baggage pods: LINK Baggage (TDY) pod on the C/L: LINK I also seem to recall seeing a photo with a GBU-12 on the center once. I'll see if I can find it.

A-10 with LAU-88/A triple-rail launcher and AGM-65s (x3)
bdt13 replied to Alpagueur's topic in Jet Modeling
LAU-88 with Mavs was the go-to load for much of the early Hog's life. Witness these links to the 1970s: Spotted JAWS Early gray Hogs Also got used in Desert Storm, although the single LAU-117 rail was perhaps more common. Loadouts Photos Thread on another modeling site
