  1. Nik thanks very much for that comprehensive info.

Some ok schemes there, but not as colourful as i was hoping.

Of course i could always do a whiffer :coolio:

Thanks to the others too for responding,

Nik any idea on expected loadouts for SAAF a/c. Missiles/bombs?

No problem, one always tries to help a fellow modeler.. :(

No, even us in the Air Force wants more colorful Gripens, but so far we've only gotten permission to paint aircraft which are being phased out...

I have absolutely no idea on what loadouts to expect, but I'll keep an eye out for you.

SAAB has a pretty good Gripen site at this location. It's even in English! :)

Maybe you can find something useful there.

Since it's SAAF, one could probably expect the Python 4 and R Darter though.... :)

  2. Hey guys.

I thought I'd try to make things a little clearer on the SwAF Gripen scheme. As far as I know, being a former aircraft technician on the Gripen with the Swedish AF, no South African (SAAF) Gripens carry another scheme than their grey on grey. The same goes for Czech and Hungarian Gripens as well.

When it comes to Swedish Gripens we've had a few variations on the grey on grey, as mentioned above. Those are:

*39131 - F7 wing. Blue paw and yellow scratchmarks on aircraft back, which later became dark grey. Swedish flag on fin pod. (39131)

*39132 - F17 wing display aircraft. Black fin with text in gold and white, black text on upper fuselage. (39132)

    *39176 - F7 wing. Anniversary logo on fin. (39176)

*39802 - F7 wing/SAAB/ETPS. Dark blue fin with ETPS crest and text in gold. (39802)

*39-1 -- 39-5 - SAAB test aircraft. Medium grey with blue and yellow trim. (39-2 grey)

*39-2 - SAAB test aircraft. Was painted all black for high alpha tests. White areas were added later. (39-2 black)

39102 -- 39130 - F7 wing. Early batch aircraft painted in "hi-vis" colours. Got repainted in low-vis during heavy maintenance. (39116)

I hope this helps you out a little. TwoBobs have, as mentioned, a decal sheet for the "Colorful Gripens". Decals for the all black (39-2) are included in the Airfix boxing. Blue/yellow trim for the test aircraft were included in the early (and very inaccurate) Revell release, but you are probably better off just masking and painting those by yourself. There are lots of good pictures of Gripens out there on the internet. If you want a standard grey on grey, just drop me a PM and I'll help you out with all the reference you need.

    Niklas from Sweden

  3. Hey guys!

I've read that one (maybe more?) of the Revell Eurofighters in 1/72 scale has the Iris-T missile in it.

I need two of those for a couple of Norwegian Vipers I'm building.

Has anyone got those to spare? Please help me out, send me a PM! :monkeydance:

  4. This thread I'm gonna pin! It's coming along really fine, Patrick! I can recognize myself in the engine compartment from work (aircraft technician on the Swedish AF Gripen fighter). I'd like to see some more pics of how you solved the intake trunking as well, it looked promising!

    Keep'em coming!

  5. I just love this one, it sure looks stunning! You are getting me more convinced of putting four AMRAAM's on my bird as well! I do agree with you on the kit point outs, regarding more AIM-120s and the ALQ-131 jamming pod, as USAFE Vipers seldom use the centerline fuel tank...

    Great piece of craftmanship!

  6. Finally I got some more done on my Viper. Main landing gear bay painted today. Pre-shaded with Tamiya nato black, then painted with white.

Also got the body glued together today, plus I've started on the stores. More pictures as the bird advances to finished...

  7. Hey guys!

I've tried to get in contact with Fireball Modelworks, to order his conversion set for the HH-60 Jayhawk in 1/72 scale, but no luck. Has anyone got any info on this? Is he out of order, or just slow on e-mail, or what?

Maybe there's another manufacteror of this conversion set? Ideas, anyone? :D

    Thanks!

    Regards,

  8. Thanx, wish you too  I think it´s a nice marking - very important plane ;) Next kit I´ll be building is 52FW Commander´s F-4G (already build here on ARC but I will make it after Desert Storm with a lot of missions) - it will be nice sisters at display case...

There are few nice pics at airliners.net of this plane, you saw them already?Specially that ones with 2 HARM´s and 4 AMRAAM´s (this pics inspirated me not to use Sidewinders X´s from kit, but 2 more Amraams instead).

    Thanks Pavel!

F-4G sounds pretty cool, I'm sure it will make a nice pair on any show, or at home on your own display.

No, haven't looked up my reference pictures yet, but I definately will now! My first thought was to go with the kit armament, but four AIM-120 sure sounds nice! I really don't like the AIM-9X, I prefer the -9M. I will probably have an ALQ-131 jamming pod on centerline as well, instead of drop tank. European CJ:s don't fly with the ALQ-119 pod, as you probably know. :)
