  1. I just got the 1/72 scale F-86K and saw it has seperate tiny little PE vortex generators that are suppose to go on the horizontal tail. Is it worth it to try and glue them on (and probably loose a couple in the process) or is it better just forget about them?
  2. My how times have changed. I did four 1 year tours in the ROK; Osan 84-85, Suwon 89-90, Osan again 90-91 and Kunsan 94-95, and never was there an event coming anywhere close to this during my time there!
  3. I remember building a couple of these when they first came out way back when and seeing others in the stores. IIRC, originally, the RF-4 was released as a USMC RF-4B.
  4. USAF Hummers have the same camo and stencil markings as the ones used by the Army. Standard markings of "USAF" (or US Air Force) with the registration number below it, i.e. 86K1234, would normaly be on edge of each side of the hood above the wheel wells. Vehicles assigned to Security Forces Squadrons (or Security Police as it was in my day) might have "Security Forces" above the join line between the roof and chassis in the area above the rear tires. Based on my experience, markings on the front and rear of the vehicle were inconsistant, some had them and some didn't. If one did, it was

    YB-40

IIRC there are some pics of the YB-40s in Squadron Signals "B-17 in Action". If you can find them, you might want to check the Detail and Scale series of books on the B-17.
  6. I've got a copy of SS "Sea Fury in Action" and from what I can tell it appears they only had one size of underwing fuel tank, and they look nothing like whats in the pic in article.
  7. Was looking at the build review on this kit in SAMI and from looking at the pics something with the drop tanks don't look right. The shape of the tanks look wrong and oversized and mounting pylons do not look right either. I know there's been some discussions about the shape and size of the prop blades, among other things, and on looking at the pics it seems the openings for them in the prop hub look to big. I have one on the shelf and am wondering if I'm going to have to shell out some more fundage for after market upgrades and corrections!
  8. If he was lost on a raid to Kiel in July '43 there is no way the Red Tails (aka 332nd FG) would have ever been involved in escorting any of his missions, for the following reasons: 1. 332nd FG did not move overseas until Feb '44 when it was assigned to the 12th in the MTO (flying P-39s) and in May '44 to the 15th AF. 2. Only the 99th FS was active '43, but in the MTO flying P-40s (which could never have reached Kiel). 3. 12th & 15th AF units never raided Kiel (AFAIK). This target was only hit by 8th AF & RAF BC heavies (and probably 9th AF units as well). FYI, they didn't ad
  9. I've been doing some minor work on turning the H-gawa A-4S & M into a "what if" Royal Navy variants. I'm just going to apply an 80s FAA paint scheme and FAA decals from the Airfix SHAR FRS-2 on the A-4S and call it the Skyhawk FR-1. I've also done some preliminary work on grafting the nose of the SHAR onto the M and will call it the Skyhawk FRS-2. My next project after that is to build a Fiat G-91 in a US Army scheme, giving it an overall OD paint job.

    What is this?

mario, you right, it could be a B model. i enlarged the photo and can just barely see the dorsal & ventral gun positions look like the blister kind found on the early models and not like those found on the C & Ds.
