  1. How 'bout one of the F-4 flown by Capt. Dean Paul Martin and his WSO, Capt. Ramon Ortiz of the California ANG?

    Airfix Sea Fury

Any reason why they just didn't include decals to make a RAN/RCN/MLD version? Also, it would have been nice if they included a 4 bladed prop to make an F 10. Yeah, I know only 50 came off the production line, but it would be nice to have the option to build one of those few.
  3. Hobby Boss is going to release a B-24D and a B-24J in 1/32nd scale!!!!!
  4. I see that Sprue Brothers has some 1/32nd scale HK B-17E/Fs in stock and their going for $319.99 (which they claim is $10.01 off normal price). As much as I love the B-17, that's a little too pricy for me, not to mention I'd be hard put to find a place to put it when finished. Maybe HK will scale both their B-17 kits down to 1/48th scale, 'cause I would definitely snag one if they did. Oh, and they'd have to fix the diameter of the dorsal turret (looks to narrow to my eye) and correct the to long and skinny looking .50 cal barrels as well.
  5. looks great and can't wait to get my hands on one, but my only nit is the clear belly turret. hopefully its an oversight by whoever built the sample kit shown in the link and not the instructions saying its supposed to be clear.
  6. imatt88, Can't remember if it had Free French markings or not, but IIRC I had started to paint the wings & fuselage white for the D-Day markings.
  7. Thanks, I checked the swannymodels link but not all the pics were available for me, but the rest of the article was helpful.
  8. Okay its time for a little trip through the wayback machine. How many of you built the 1/48th scale Esci/Ertl B-26 Marauder? I bought one way back in like 1979 or 80 and all I can remember is the parts were molded in white plastic. I remember starting it but don't think I ever finished it. I was in the USAF at the time and think I tossed it when I got orders to another base. My main question is, for those that can remember, is how did it compare to the Monogram/Revell 1/48th kit. Oh, and the reason I'm curious is I realized don't have a B-26 kit (in any scale) in my stash of WW2 USAAF bo
  9. Okay, I took a set of wings from the D/F and slotted them into the wing root slot of the H and it matched up exactly, so no, it doesn't look like they made any changes to the wing thickness, but like I said, as long as it looks like a BUFF when done, I'll be happy.
  10. I do have a Minicraft B-52H in the stash, but its an early version (w/o all the FLIR/LLTV bumps and other assorted fairings), and haven't had a chance to compare the two yet, which I'll probably do this weekend, if work don't get in the way.
  11. Got me two of the new Minicraft 1/144th scale B-52D/F kits the other day and while I haven't yet given the parts a good look over yet, I can say, from my point of view, they will look like 'Nam era BUFFs when finished. The only things I've noticed so far is the HSAB (Heavy Stores Adaptor Beam) for the underwing pylons looks too long and Minicraft missed the small, but obvious, fairings that are supposed to be above the alternator housings on the left side of each engine pod for the F model. My plan is to build one as a D and the other as an F and as long as look like a BUFF, tha
  12. I'm at work and don't have the flyer with me, but I'll check when I get home.
  13. I got my new Minicraft B-52D/F kits in the mail yesterday and the package included a flyer from Minicraft showing some of their old and new and future release kits. Among the things in 1/144th scale that caught my eye was a new tooled B-29 (which hopefully addresses the badly shaped vertical tail), a KB-29 Tanker, some different versions of the EC & RC-135 and a combo kit with a KC-135 and a B-52D/F. But what really caught my eye was their plans to release a 1/144th scale B-50A, an aircraft which has been ignored other kit makers. I know, there was the 1/72nd scale Academy kit, but it's
  14. no prob I went looking for aftermarket Mustang landing gear and all I could find was two sets from Scale Aircraft Conversions, one each for the Tamiya and Hasegawa kits. Wonder if one of them will work, or maybe now that I think about it, if I can swipe the gear legs from a Monogram kit that's buried somewhere in my stash?
  15. what I meant was how I couldn't find any reviews elsewhere that mentioned this and your entry here was the only one I've been able to find that identified the issue, I just forgot to read back over all the entries in this thread first.
  16. In the current FSM magazine there is a review of the latest iteration of this kit with PLAAF markings and the reviewer pointed out an error with the main gear legs. He pointed out the olio scissors are molded on the front of the gear legs and because they are keyed, simply swapping them around won't solve the problem. I checked my older kit and found the same thing, funny how, apparently, no one seemed to pick up on that.
  17. Well apparently its out, as I read over on HS some guy said he bought one in from his LHS. Anyway I checked some of the on-line stores but none seem to have it, so I went to the Minicraft web site and was able to order two of the them, as I plan on building both versions, someday (I got a couple of B-17s I'm fixin' to start on). There is a built up pic of the kit on the Minicraft site and the only things that look off to me is the main windscreen panels look a little big and the horizontal rails on the under wing pylons look a tad long, but other than that it looks like a BUFF, which is fine
  18. Was thumbing thru a recent copy of SAMI and saw a small entry that said someone, and I can't remember who, is going to be releasing a new 1/144th scale B-52 as a D/E model? Anyone heard of this and/or have any info on a possible release date? I have the old 1/200th Tamiya B-52D in my stash, but I'd love to have a D/E to go with my 1/144th B-47, along with my B-52H and B-58.

    Airfix Mustang

I don't see the shadow all the way around the prop hub, but I do see a blur from the spinning prop. As for the scoop under the nose, all Merlin engine mustangs have them, so its supposed to be there. Since there are flashed over rocket mount holes on the lower wings, does this mean Airfix will be releasing a post-war or Korean War version, with a cuff-less prop?
  20. Early Gs left the factory with the small cheek windows and had the larger ones were installed at modification centers. As for those extra lights, they might be formation lights, and the other attachments could be static discharge devices. The aircraft featured in this series of pic, 42-97825 is, according to the Joe Baugher web-site, a B-17G-30-VE, which ended up being converted to a SB-17G. Another a/c shown in the background of one of the pics, 43-37623 ended up with the 96th BG and returned stateside after the war. It was subsequently salvaged in July 1946.
  21. Well now it seems the USAF wants to dump the ABU for something else, and apparently one option is to adopt something similar to the same type of uniform the Army wants to get rid of!
  22. Heres a couple of pics I found on one of the aircraft involved, which was 44-72216. The other was 44-73877, but I couldn't find any pics of that aircraft
  23. Back in the mid to late 80s there was a pretty good LHS in a shopping center on, I wanna say Watson Blvd, near the intersection of Houston Rd. I went back in the early 2000s but couldn't find it, I'm pretty sure I found the right shopping center, but no hobby shop.
