  1. Anyone know whats going on with the Navsource & Hazegray websites? I haven't been able to access them for the last couple of days.

    RAF Invader Mk I

found this pic on line of a kit someone else built.
  3. Looks good and brings back a few memories of my youth. One of the first armor kits I built on my own was a Tamiya M-41 that I bought, with my own money, at a LHS outside the main gate of Kadena AB on Okinawa in the early '70s.

    RAF Invader Mk I

Don't know what prompted this idea to pop into my usually scattered brain, but all of a sudden I've been thinking about doing a what-if RAF Invader Mk I. I've already tracked down what serial numbers were allocated for the type and I'm wondering in what role they would have been used; tactical, night intruder or anti-shipping. I'm also wondering if they would have received a standard RAF camo, based on intended use, or left in NMF. I've got four 1/48th Monogram A-26s in my stash, along with a 1/48th Tamiya Mossie and some left over RAF decals from other kits, so I've got the basics covered.
  5. I wonder if Revell has given any thought to re-tooling both their 1/48th scale B-17s, or perhaps, up scaling their 1/72nd scale kits. If it would help keep prices down I don't think they should go hog wild on the interior like HK did, but maybe add more to the "F" and a little bit more to, or maybe leave as is, the "G". I think they might get a fair return for their effort if they can get the kits out to coincide with the release of the mini-series based on the book Masters of the Air.
  6. looks great, makes me want to pull mine outta the stash, although I doubt mine would look as great as yours does
  7. Just saw the other day they plan on re-releasing the 1/72nd TBM-3S, in JSDF markings, with a price tag of nearly $80.
  8. With the exception of the Revell 1/48th B-17F, why is it none of the kit manufactures can seem to get the top shape turret right? I seem to recall reading a review of the Monogram "G" a long while back that said the shape (or was it the panel lines) of the top turret match none that was ever used on a 'Fort. Even the one on the HK kits looks off, in that it looks too narrow, and the ones on the new 1/72nd Revell and Airfix kits seem odd. I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the pics I've seen of completed kits that makes them look off, and I won't mention that the mg barrels on s
  9. Revell did a -5 in 1/48th scale a few years ago and I think I got one in my stash. FYI, Academy also did a -4 and a -5 in 1/72 scale.
  10. As an aside, according to Joe Baugher's website, 0006 was later lost @ Wright-Patterson AFB in May 1974. Apparently it suffered elevator and rudder control issues and crashed while attempting to land, thankfully all 7 crewmembers survived. At the time it was assigned to the 34th BS/17th BW.
  11. sad to hear, prayers for his family & friends.
  12. Was the Airfix B-24 kit, #A06010, a new tool, or a re-box of their ancient kit or another company's kit? I've been to their website but it's not even listed there anymore.
  13. This is the pic I was referring to. As you can see the marking somewhat resemble those used by the 34th BG, but they're also similar to those used by the 22nd BG. The thing that it is interesting and makes me wonder about those being 34th BG markings is the terrain in the back ground and what seems to be a desert pink camo job, although it could just be one of the OD schemes that's faded to look khaki.
  14. I was going through my recently purchased Detail & Scale book on the B-24 (Vol 64) and came across a pic in the colored pic section that shows what appears to be a G/H/J model in desert pink camo that has tail markings I haven't been able to identify. The tail markings are large white squares on the inner and outer surfaces of the tail fins, with a black S in the square on the outer fin. Anybody know what unit these marking might be for? Oh, and the reason I believe it is a G/H/J model is because it has what looks like the types bomb aimers window and possibly a seven digi
  15. Yesterday I was browsing Amazon looking for B-24 related items and I came across an Airfix B-24 (kit # 06010) that has a selling price of $4,890.87, which does not include S&H, which is $4.49! To say I nearly choked and fell out of my chair at the same time would be a gross understatement! I just checked again and its still being listed at that price. Shoot for that price I could get 17 of the H&K 1/32 B-17E/F kits and still have money left over!
  16. Was there, or is there any after market stuff to model a B-24 with a handheld twin .50s, M-6 Stinger or the light weight A-6B tail turret? Don't matter if its 1/48th or 1/72nd scale, I've kits in both scales in my stash.

    C-123 sprayers

It was either the summer of '79 or '80 and I was stationed @ Grand Forks. One day I heard a prop job buzzing around, so I walked outside of my dorm and saw a single C-123 spraying something as it made several passes over the base. Mosquitos were a big problem when I was there, so I figured they must have been spraying for that. The aircraft was not camouflaged and I could clearly see USAF markings on it.

    HK B-17F

For as long as I can remember I've said there's no way I'd put down that much $$$$$ for such a huge kit, especially since I'd have no place to put it once its finished, as I live in an apartment. The biggest kits I've every bought were the 1/48th scale B-17s by Revell and Monogram and Monograms B-24 & B-29. Then Italeri came out with their 1/32 scale PT-Boat, which I bought, then I picked up Tamiya's 1/32 scale Spit Mk IXC and then recently just bought the Fly Models 1/32 scale Hurricane Mk IIC. Because of the question of what to do with these three kits when finished they are still sit
