Also you werent in Pensacola in June by any chance were you, they had a F-14 open in the "Boneyard" area and there was a guy shooting cockpit shots for a book.

Thanks As for getting to grips with the lens, my technique hasnt changed yet on my old warhorse of a lens (Sigma 170-500) the best I could hope for was: Shocking how decent glass changes the image quality
