  1. If that's the case we better have one heck of a large room so everyone can bunch up in the corner. Reddog Also, one disclaimer. Just because the aircraft isn't clear for an item doesn't always means it hasn't been used on that aircraft. Just ask the Marines, I catch them using stuff they ain't cleared for all the time.
  2. Their not, never have been to my knowledge. Reddog :P BTW: Joe, that's what happens when you don't have a Tomcat Ordie incharge of the load.
  3. A-4's never carried HARM's. The A-7 and some A-6's where cleared for HARM before the F-18 came around. The first operational HARM's fired where from A-7's. Trust me (and it ain't in any book either) Reddog :P
  4. They are not on a CVER, they are on parent racks, the angle of the photo makes it look like they are close together. Combining weapons on a CVER is a no-no. Also, mixing of CVER and VER's is a no no, besides, the E/F is not cleared for VER's. As for VER's, you would have a better chance of hitting the lottery then finding a VER nowadays. Reddog
  5. No, the A-4 (any variant) could not employ the HARM. Now before someone posts a pick of a HARM on an A-4. Yes, it was CAPABLE of carrying it but it was not authorized and did not have the avionics to employ it. So the bottom line, no the A-4 was authorized to carry the HARM. BTW, the outboard stations where only rate for about 500 lbs, the HARM was a 900 lb missile. I think the inside of all moving surfaces (flaps/brakes etc) where red and the drop tanks are your choice, I've seen a varity off all greys. Reddog <_<
  6. Leaflet Bombs (ie B/S Bomb) don't use the FMU-140, they still have the Mk 339's. Reddog <_<
  7. The reason why the black looks newer then rest of the jet is because when VF-101 painted the marking on the jet they did not repaint the whole jet, just the markings. Also, flat paint didn't far well while gloss paint held up a lot better. It was illegal to paint the whole jet, if you did that you had to ge the aircraft weighed again and recompute the weight and balance, not an easy or fun job. Reddog
  8. Nah, he couldn't count past three........ Reddog
  9. Stunning, truly stunning!!!!!!! No detail missed or overlooked. The best Tomcat model I've ever seen. A true masterpiece. Reddog
  10. The history of the Pukin Dog is not what was going around in the squadron and not what was taught in the sqaudron. This is what was told to me by the CO upon my checking into the squadron At an officers party an Admirals wife saw the tail markings on our aircraft and noted that it looked like a "Pukin Dog", after that the sqaudron became to be known as the World Famous Pukin Dogs. In 92/93 time frame Political Correctness swept the Navy (to this day I have no idea how I survived) and the Pukin Dogs where forced to change to their name to the World Famous Dogs. When I checked into the squadr
  11. A few Notes; VF-103's F-14 color was yellow, not blue. VF-161 trastioned from Phantoms to Hornets, they where on the Coral Sea with VFA-151. No VF-17? for Tomcats, there was a VF-171 for Phantoms, it was the east coast RAG. No VF-6? for Tomcats. Reddog
  12. The list missed one cruise. CVW-7 CVN-74 John C Stennis 28/02/98 28/08/98 F-14B AG100 Reddog :D
  13. Man, there are no word to describe the total AWESOME-NESS of this Tomcat! You hit every detail, even the mounting holes for the MXU-611's. I can only dream of building a Tomcat like that. Great job, that is the best Tomcat model I've ever seen, no detail has been missed. Reddog
  14. Not doupting you but I find that report hard to believe. You would have to dis-assembly the entire plane, make a Box Beam strong enough to support the airframe, then put it all back together. Also, why did that museum do that and none of the others do it? Reddog
  15. Are you saying that the Box Beam (wing box) have all be stripped out of the bird? If you remove the Box Bean, the plane would fall apart, it is the MAIN structural component, without it you would have nothing but a pile of metal. Also, the birds may have been stripped but there are still parts that Iran needs, airframe part, Daily/Weekly Doors, etc. Reddog

    VF-143

They wheren't gull grey, they where done up in the TPS scheme. No Bravo's at that time where done in the overall gull grey scheme. Reddog ^_^
  17. Chuck, Totally awesome build, I'm having flashback (good ones) right now just looking at it. Reddog BTW, I just looked up the buno of your bird, it was in VF-11 when I was in VF-143, we shared the same deck and I'm sure I laid my hands on her at least once or twice.
  18. The only ballute-type fin used on the Mk 82 bomb body is the Mk 16 para-tail and that is used on the when the Mk 82 bomb body is configured as a Mk 62 Quickstrike Mine. The retard fin used on the Mk 82 GP is the Mk 15 (obsolete) and BSU-86/B and A/B The Mk 83 uses the BSU-85/B. Unless you are going to turn your Mk 82's into Mk 62's you will not be using the ballute-type fin. Also, the Mk 16 is very different from the ballute-type fin the Air Force uses so if you have Mk 82's with ballute fins, they are Air Force bombs. Reddog

    VF-143

I'm positive. I was in VF-103 and helped do the turn over with the IKE on the 22nd of Aug 1990. That photo could have been taken anytime after Desert Storm, the US maintained a presence there through out the 90's. During Desert Shield we did not over fly Kuwait or Iraq, only Saudi Arabia so I don't think that photo was from Desert Shield. I could be from the IKE's cruise right after Desert Shield, while they where still trying to get the oil fires under control and capped. Bottom line, VF-143 and VF-142 where not in Desert Storm and was only in theater until the 22nd of Aug 90. They turne
  20. Whoops, forgot about the IFC that came out a little while ago, my bad. Reddog

    VF-143

VF-143 and VF-142 was NOT in DS, they left the OA (operating area) on the 22nd of Aug 90. They where relieved on station by VF-103 and VF-74. VF-142 and VF-143 was at NAS Oceana during the entire Desert Shield and Desert Storm. V/R Reddog :P
  22. A few notes; 1) Edit, the LITENING Pod is cleared on the centerline of the A+, C and D. (Forgot about the IFC) 2) No LGB's on the centerline 3) The US does not use the ASRAAM. 4) No LITENING Pod on Station 6. On A+, A++, and C's station 4, D's can be on either 4 or 5. 5) Only the Mk 82's, MK 62, Mk 63, Mk 77 and Cluster Bombs are 6) The USMC/USN only use the parachute fins on Mk 82's for Mines (Mk 62). For GP Bombs it would be the BSU-86 or Mk 15 (the Mk 15 fin is only authorized for use on the Mk 62 Mine, this change took place two years ago). Reddog :P
  23. To my knowledge the only difference between the A and B was the engine (upgraded), Variable position flaps and the addition of the strike camera. The antenna you are talking about was retro-fitted to the B latter on in life. Externally, it was almost impossible to tell the difference between the A and B, the only real way was that antenna on the tail and once the B's got them, forget telling the difference at all. HTH Reddog
  24. A total of six dispenser are carriered by the AV-8B+/NA, two on the lower tail just aft of the speed brake and four on the upper tail, two on either side, just forward of the base of the fin. Each dispenser has 30 holes for Chaff and/or Flares. The ones on the upper part of the fuselage are for buno 163853 and up. HTH Reddog
  25. A "B" Station Adapter is that adapter the bottom LAU-7 Missile (Sidewinder) Launcher mounts to, it goes between the launcher and Multi Purpose Pylon (main pylon). I saw the silver to gold transition, you nailed it. As for the LAU-138's, VF-101 really didn't have any of them. the LAU-138 was mainly reserved for the fleet squadrons since there wasn't enough to go around. We use to pass ours over to the next sqaudron scheduled to go on cruise when we got back from a cruise and then would get someone else's when we started "work-ups" (training) for the next cruise. Truly the best Tomcat model
