  1. Does anyone have any photos of the radar panel of an AJ, or know of a source (or if the Naval Fighters book has any)? I have a colleague whose dad was a B/N in them and is looking for some. Thanks!
  2. Aeronautical engineering is about design trades, and sometimes the extra weight, effort/complexity/cost, and parasite drag (the portion of drag that doesn't change with angle of attack) of winglets won't be worth it. Altitude may or may not affect that. However, winglets will generally tend to increase the altitude at which an aircraft can fly most efficiently (or at all), so I doubt there normally will be an altitude an airplane can reach where they won't provide an aerodynamic benefit. As other posters have noted, winglets decrease induced drag (the portion of drag that DOES change with a
  3. Would anyone happen to have in their spares box a windscreen for the 1/72 Hasegawa F-14 (the "new" molds)? I managed to ruin mine with too-hot water trying to spread it by .025" to match my slightly-too-wide fuselage. Appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'll even take a beat-up one if anybody has a scrap model they can pry it off of--I can smash-form plastic if I have a mold! Thanks! Geoffrey
  4. Are there not any in the Detail & Scale book?
  5. Marcin, photos on their way to you. Didn't realize that was a Phoenix trolley, but makes sense--I'm sure there were plenty of unemployed ones at Oceana, with diminishing prospects for the future!!
  6. Here you go. I have these higher-res as well, just let me know where you want them sent if you want the full-size versions. Oceana NAS, Sep 2005
  7. Does anyone have any experience with trying to match Model Master (Acryl, in particular) colors to the three-color Light Ghost Gray-Dark Ghost Gray-Medium Gray USN tactical paint scheme? The stock colors look way too dark--and wind up looking too purpley for the the Ghost Grays and too blue for medium gray. I've mixed versions that I think work for my VF-103 F-14B, but I wondered if others have noticed (and tried to correct for) the same problem (if you can post pictures of the results, even better).
  8. I'm doing an F-14 in Model Master Acryls and have found their Light Ghost, Dark Ghost, and Medium Grays way too dark, relative to photos of actual aircraft and my recollections of the real things. I've not had this problem with them before, but I shot a test model using the full-strength FS colors, and it looked ridiculous.
  9. Why can't you make the conversion? If the drawings are too big and won't fit on a piece of paper for your printer, you could do it in chunks.
