  1. On of my favourite members to see posting here is 'phantomscalefixer' - he works mainly in 1/72 and has had some amazing build-ups and work in progress threads. But now I can't find any of his posts, and I can't see him on the membership list either. Perhaps I got his name wrong?
  2. Wonderful work John, I can't wait to see more. Always happy to see someone else at work in styrene.
  3. Lacquer over an acrylic (like Future) is always a bad idea. The reverse is not true - Acrylic over Lacquer will usually be fine. I think you're in trouble, I'm afraid...
  4. Hi Steve There's another issue that is an important one that doesn't seem to have been discussed. Molds for injection kit parts are expensive in setup and are subject to a number of technical limitations. One it the 'undercut' which means the shape of many items are limited. A good example of this is clear 'bubble-like' aircraft canopies. For a number of years aircraft canopies for some manufacturers were consistently wrong because they only used a 2-part mould meaning the actual real-world shape of the canopy was impossible to achieve. So a compromise must be created to deal with the fact
  5. Here is some inspiration for you: http://sparrow.o.oo7.jp I particularly like the ADFX-02 Morgan and the X-49 Night Raven. He's been building Ace Combat aircraft since it came out. Unfortunately I can't read Japanese, but for the most part, the pics speak for themselves….
  6. I haven't been on ARC for awhile, so forgive me for this post. Last year there was a user here who would post links to pages from his website that had old designs, concept images and profiles of historic X-Planes which were quite unusual. I can't find any of the posts and completely forget the poster's name as well. Any help? Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about! Thanks in advance.
  7. I take it you would not have approved of one of my most personally happiest but expensive model purchases: http://www.hlj.com/product/FNMSW-06
  8. Here's an awesome set of photos and a really engrossing article on the Blackbird. Too cool not to share: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/10/incredible-shot-of-sr-71-blackbirds-together/ Really puts the 'old bird' in a new light for me. Nice talk about building a model of 'The Sled' as well...
  9. Really nice work. I particularly like the camo scheme, would have taken some trial and error, I'm sure!

    Greetings!

Very nice work. Particularly like the Falke.
  11. This old build of mine will give you some ideas. You don't need a vacformer, just a candle! The biggest effort is sanding the canopy buck smooth. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=28650
  12. I'm fairly sure this was the recommended undercoat when I did this. I know there is now a black undercoat available from Alclad. This is a possiblity. I'm hoping it's the culprit, at least!
  13. Wow there are some incredible aircraft there - as well as a couple that made me smile. I don't know enough to enter though.
  14. About 5 years ago I finished a project with Alclad II Chrome - a wonderful metal finish which looked fantastic. This was applied over the recommended Tamiya black spray (TS-14?). Recently I've inspected the project and am not thrilled to see a myriad of tiny cracks through which the black is showing through. I'm wondering what could have caused this, and whether anyone else has some experience with this. I have used the Alclad lacquers a lot and have plenty of builds that use them. Factors that MAY have affected this: Resin kit. resin outgassing? I occassionally seal my Alclad finished
  15. Looks like a very solid start to an awesome project!
  16. Very nice pics. Interesting to see the 'mini shuttle' again - although I cannot for the life of me work out how that landing gear functions, apart from a static display.
  17. Very nice pics - with some very unusual subjects! Thanks for these!
  18. Nice tip! I've done this myself, but it's an easy step to overlook, and once the canopy is glued in, hard to fix.
  19. Hard to believe this is 1/72 - the painting and attention to detail is amazing. Beautiful work!
  20. Ivan, your work is inspirational and awesome. Great work - I particularly like that German Fulcrum. Although the weathered finishes on some of the other are also very, very nice!
