  1. Hehe, its certainly something I've considered. The thing I like about the Gunstar is that it really looks like a ship of space, no wings, etc, and also for something so futuristic it has a metallic finish which is unusual post-Star Wars. It also hasn't 'dated' as a design, at all.
  2. Great thread! Here are mine, in no particular order Naboo Starship Millenium Falcon GunStar Crusher Joe Harpy Macross VF-2 SS BSG Viper Mk7 Homeworld Taiidan Scout
  3. What a cool project, can't wait to see how this one goes...!
  4. Brent, I think you're design was great for what it was - a homage to the retro, and as a scratchbuild, it was cleanly and well executed. Beautiful work! But you were in good company, there were plenty of great designs in that competition, so don't feel too poorly! Having said this, I was not a fan of the winner, simply because it looks so much like an ugly version of one of my favourite 'space fighter' designs, the Crusher Joe Siren. The kit, and accompanying artwork look great though.
  5. I build scifi because its get chicks and it's very, very cool. Also I don't want to build another Phantom or Panther as long as I live.
  6. Sorry Wing_nut, I think you misread the original post. Yes, starshipbuilder.com is gone for good. Charles, the site owner, just wanted to focus on other things, and to be honest, the traffic on the forum was just getting less and less. It was a great site though and had some excellent scratchbuild threads on it.
  7. Very nice work. Perfect subject and situation for this application.
  8. Wow check out that mountain range! Great scenery! :(
  9. Some beautiful sculpting here, going off to order now!
  10. Beautiful work so far, can't fault it really.
  11. Beautiful work. I want to get this model now, your build-up is very inspiring!
  12. In the words of Neo: 'Whoa!' Awesome pics, love those trainers! Thank you very much. regards, Petar
  13. That's exactly what I am referring to, thank you! Explosive cord for the ejection seat? Wow, never would have guessed that one. Any other photos for reference would be much appreciated.
  14. What a beautiful build-up. Amazing work!
  15. I've seen a few modern jet aircraft canopies with something that looks like it could be an embedded electronic de-mister on top - a geometric pattern on top, or underneath the glass canopy. I'm not up on modern jets, could anyone enlighten me? Thanks for your time!

Bandai made a few in their 1/100 EX range, but I think the 1/72 scale are all in resin, and most of them are out of production. You might want to check out Hobby Link Japan, and Ebay.
  17. Lucien I never fail to be amazed at: 1) your great craftsmanship and 2) the odd subjects you pick Well done sir, looking forward to more installments...
  18. Starship Modeler has just got new stock of the Atmospheric Booster which is an accessory kit for the excellent Hasegawa Valkyries. I have put up an in-progress thread here at Samurai-Monkey. It's one of my 'grail' Macross kits, thought you might be interested.
  19. Superb work, great technical and art skills!
  20. Neptune, those finishes are phenomenal! Anyway, to the matter at hand. I've put Future (Pledge One-Go here) over Alclad with no appreciable loss of lustre.
  21. Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately Tamiya Smoke wont approximate Gold. The link that you put ColinK was informative, but I've tried just about every method described, and they don't seem to give the semi-reflective gold finish - although that image and Kaan's info is great. I might try airbrushing a very light dusting of Alclad straight onto Future and see what happens...
  22. Hi guys Long time lurker. Not a big poster though! I know this has been raised a few times before, but has anyone had any success yet in gold reflective 'tinting' of modern jet fighter canopies? After a bit of research, I've not seen anything that gives good results, although I could be missing some crucial avenue of exploration. I've tried tinting Future with dyes etc, with very limited success, and of course without the subtle reflections that make those canopies look so cool. Has anyone been able to duplicate or approximate this effectively yet? Thanks for your time.
  23. I've built both the Black Sun and Sci High 1/72 versions of the mark 7 viper. The Sci High version is a slightly better sculpt, and also includes a much better pilot. Having said that, it's also the more expensive one. The Black Sun builds up to a very respectable version also. Here is the Sci High version I built up as a Pegasus viper a few months ago, along with the Black Sun version in the background
  24. I can recommend it. I got sick of waiting for Finemolds to do one! It's a great little kit, although a little pricey for the size, but it's a low-run kit I guess. Here's a couple of pics my build up. Despite these pics, this kit is tiny at 1/72... The pilot and side guns are scratchbuilt. No pilot came with it, and the guns really needed replacing, as it's hard to do consistent tubes in resin at this scale. Oh, and this is my first post on these boards, I'm hoping to put together a YF-22 soon, which is why Im having a nosey around.
