  1. Hi folks, I gotta say as much as i want to make this su-22, I have to say this kit is already starting to make my head spin. In looking at the instructions I cannot for the life of me figure out which set kit pylons would be used to support fuel tanks on the outermost wing stations. I see them on other builds, and I see them on pics of the real thing, so they must be in the kit right? The only pylons I can find on the sprues are for the belly, inboard stations or specialized for selected weapons on the weapons sprues. The instructions show some pylon that looks right going there b
  2. Hi all, For my next project I'm planning to make Polish su-22 M4 out of the kittyhawk offering. In planning the build, I'm working out what would be an interesting but realistic warload for the model and among a pair of B8m rocket pods, aphid missiles, and gas bags on the wings, I was thinking of buying a pair of aerobonus mbd3-u6 MERs for the belly stations. I just can't find any good pics of the MERs attached to these stations, so I was wondering if anyone can share some info or pics of how the MERs would be attached. Also what bombs would be used? It looks like the arangment un
  3. Good for you sir! I just came across your 3 videos on the -25pu and having built the original kh foxbat-e, I certainly commiserate and commend your effort. It really is a bear of a kit, and it's not even to sully kh or the kit its self, but it is a first release (or has most of the first release plastic in it) and has it's problems. After a while through my attempt I began thinking of it as a garage kit with all the challenges that a small limited run kit would present, and that helped with frustrations along the way as problems popped up. That being said you're definitely on
  4. Wow, it amazes me how this thread keeps coming back. People really love their phantoms including me. 152327 was my third hasegawa phantom finished a couple years ago. I have a forth (this time a back converted f-4n from a j boxing that gets worked on from time to time. I love the kit. Easy to work and mod..and it looks like a phantom when its done! Gunny: Thanks for putting all that info on the thread. It confirmed a lot of questions I still had about the plane, even after my build was over. It's such a confusing matter keeping track of mods and all; A couple phantom guys had rec
  5. Hi folks, I'm starting a little research into modelling a German RE-4E in 1/48 starting with a hasegawa kit. In looking through photos of Greek (ex German) jets it looks like they are/ where configured ks-87b cameras. My question is , when these jets were in German service, (painted in Norm 83a), could they be configured with the KS-127a camera and where they used that way? I have a lot of great pics of that system and would like to model it installed into a German Norm 83a jet. If not then ill go with the Ks-87 install. Thanks MattJ.
  6. Happy NewYear everyone. A little late with the 2017 build review but that being said, it's just the 1 this year, which is an improvement over last year. Let's just say I'm only two years in on my 18 year project and she takes the bulk of my free time (but I don'd mind). That being said, here's my 1/48 trumpeter Mig-23 mf build as Red 146 of the Polish Airforce. It was modified with: Aires exhuast and cockpit Eduard r-23s and wheels Modelmaker decals Scratch work in the landing gear, wheel wells, and intake covers This was my first attempt doing
  7. Hi everyone, Big update tonight. I've been pretty busy with work and family lately so the mig project has been sitting on the work table for a few weeks. However things have quieted down recently and I've had some time to work on the mongol and flogger. A lot has happened with the migs over the last little while, and particularly over the last few days. To keep the update relatively short I'll focus on the UM tonight, which thanks to my airbrush being operational now, started getting a little colour in the cockpit and avionics bay. To get started, th
  8. Good evening, Well folks, a couple days off means a few hours at the work bench and a little more progress. I decided to make a couple small changes to the main wheel well. After reviewing some pictures, I decided that a piece of molded in detail in the rear of the well was too far back in the well, so I found some reference, cut out the piece and re-positioned it further forward. I built up some structure and detail around it and once happy called the entire well finally done. Here are a couple pics of the competed wells mocked up inside the fuselage. I als
  9. Since I'm on a few days off from work, I've got some time to press ahead with a little more detail work in the flogger. In particular I decided to add some plumbing to the main gear actuators which are prominent on the wells of the real airplane. The kit parts are devoid of much detail so I added a little plumbing to them with reference to the real thing. Here's how they look inside the well: Apart from getting those actuators done, I also had some time to review my decal option from Model Maker decals and settled on this bird:
  10. Good evening friends, So this mig-21um project is taking a little bit of a detour. Since moving into my new modelling room I've been able to set up all of my building stuff except for my air compressor and air brush, which is in need of some maintenance. With paint time on the mongol coming soon and since I'm really on a building kick right now, I've decided to also tackle my 1/48 trumpeter mig-23 mf. This is a more advanced build and there's a lot of work to go before anything is really ready to see paint. Once I've take the flogger as far as I can without paint, I'l get my ai
  11. Good evening folks, Not a lot to report on the progress of the um really. I've been busy with work and the family so the build has been on the backburner for a little while. I have however managed to push ahead with the main landing gear. After a couple of hours of work i was able to apply some bits of brass wire and aluminum foil to give the impression of the complicated arrangement of hydraulics associated with the main struts. I don't think it's exactly like the real deal but I'm trying to keep this on in the relaxing category before I get AMS over the next build. Also f
  12. Good evening all, As it happened I had a little free time tonight to start a little of the detail work. I spent a couple hours adding piping to the nose wheel system and stuck on some of the remaining eduard bits. There's still a small bit of tweaking and sanding to do but this part is pretty close to complete. We'll see later how it looks under primer but for now here's the nose gear in the raw. I really like the extra detail that the eduard set gives to the landing gear. The real thing is a pretty complex arrangement of pipes and cable and fasteners, and the resin
  13. Hi folks! It's been a long time since I've had anything to post on here. Lots has changed since then, in particular my baby daughter who happily takes most of my free time. Also since converting my work space into the nursery, there hasn't been any place to set up shop...until now. With the completion of my new work space in the freshly renovated portion of the house, I can now take a little free time to get back to the hobby, and I can't wait. The new place: Though nothing will happen very quickly, I've decided to take a little vacation from ph
  14. I was just over on the Modelling News and they have a spread on a couple fully built up and painted Super Etendards from KittyHawk in 48th. I want to start out by saying I'm in no way trolling along here, so that said, I think they look really really well done. The inclusion of french roundel on the Argentine version is a bit of a head scratch but I'm not going to pass judgment on that. Though I'm no expert on that airplane, there sure looks to be a lot of good detail going on there. No doubt, some after market stuff will pop up for it too and then it'll be something ever more. Anyways, I'm
  15. Hey, I,ve been following this build since the beginning. It makes me want to start an EJ kai of my own. Great build and great selection of a colour scheme. You could even call it phan-omenal. Looking forward to the finish! -MattJ
  16. Hi folks, Though I don't have time to build much with my baby girl happily taking up most of my free time, I still want to keep one foot in the hobby. With this in mind, I happened across a hasegawa 1/48 rf-4b and thought it would be fun to try and scratch build an open camera bay. I'm having a lot of trouble finding good pictures of the bay for reference, so fellow Phantom Phans and those Phixers out there, does anyone by chance have and good pictures, schematics, or diagrams of this area? It would be so helpful for planning this future build. Thanks in advance, MattJ.
  17. Happy Newyear everyone! Just one from me in 2015. Finished in march, and seen on here before. All the best and happy modelling in 2016. 1/48 Hasegawa f-4j back dated to b.
  18. I was just on The Modeling News and took a look through Hobby Boss's new catalog and there they are: A SU-17M4 and it's two seat counterpart SU-17UM3, in 1/48 scale. I'm actually quite excited for some new plastic fitters. Looking forward to seeing some shots down the road too. -MattJCYKZ
  19. Hi folks, I was surfing the internet and came across this picture of an F-4S phantom, in which the plane is configured with wing flaps down. But there in something funny going on there in so far that the most inboard leading edge flap in deployed. My thinking from doing research for my phantom builds is that this flap was locked in the permanent up position on all but the earliest f-4B's that didn't receive later updating toward the "J" standard. So phantom experts out there..what's going on here?? Here's a link to the pic from cloud9photography, also not my pic: http://www.cloud9photo
  20. Ok folks, here's the thing: I bought one of those trumpeter SU-9 fishpots in 1/48 scale, and though I think it would be a fun build out of the box....what if I wanted to transform it into a SU-7 BKL fitter? I know this means scratch building the wings but the bigger question is, is the fuselage, tail, and horizontal stabs out of the box reasonably close to the fitter A? And also, could I used the landing gear and wheel wells from the kit in the scratchbuilt wing? Definitely a challenge, but doable I think. Please let me know. Thanks! Matt J
  21. This is so slick! I can't wait to see the finished model! Great work so far. Regards, MattJ
  22. Hey thanks, The decals for the VMFA-312 machine are from AeroMaster Phancy Phantoms Pt3. The VF-84 bird also uses the same sheet. Happy 4th of July! -MattJ
  23. Darren! Those models are awesome!! Looks like I'm not the only one who likes those bicentennial schemes. They really help give some colour to those gull grey over white navy and marine deals. Very well done sir! I especially like those phantoms! Question for you, The RF-4; are the decals from the impact decals bicentennial sheet? I used that sheet for my Atlanta F-4b and they were really nice to use. Great job again, and happy 4th of July from the great white north. Regards, -MattJ
  24. Happy 4th of July to all my American friends here on ARC. Nothing new here, just the rhino builds from the last couple years, all in 48th based on the standard hasegawa F-4j boxing. Enjoy your day 'yall :)/>/>/> -MattJ
