Worked on the stand last night. The stand with my calculations and the holes for the power and control switches drilled out Everything in place to test it. A Romulan is lurking in the background, as well as my Doolittle Raider. Power connector installed. One thing I didn't consider was if the tabs would interfere with the base sitting level. So, I bent the tabs out. Toggle switches installed. I need to prime and paint it. I also need to shim the stand hole so the tube fits better. Vern

Its......The Enterprise. NCC-1701 in 1/350 scale
admiralcag replied to phantom's topic in The "Star Trek" universe
There are some definite gotchas with the light kit. Good luck! -
I found a CAT-5 cable and cut a 2' length from it. Stripped the outer sheath and ran it through the aluminum tube I am using for the stand. It's tight and there may have been some chafing, so I will need to see if any of the conductors are shorted out to the tube. Need to order the power supply and jack from Amazon.

No... I have been rather busy lately. I did hit the seams with primer yesterday and found I need to do more seam filling work. I am also gathering up the miscellaneous electronic parts. I got lucky and got some toggle switches at a Radio Shack liquidation sale, but no luck on magnet wire. I need to run six pairs of wire through the aluminum stand tube for power and the switches. I may strip some fine wire out of a CAT-5 cable. More updates soon. Vern

F-16CJ "bird slicer" IFF
admiralcag replied to Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy's topic in Jet Modeling
They started showing up in the 120FS after we went to Iraq in 2004. It is a depot level mod, so the bird slicers show up at random times. Do your research on a particular tail number. Vern -
I realized, after I cut everything apart, that I didn't note the order the LEDs fired in. Hook up, test, mark. I did get the first pass on seam filling done. Mr. Surfacer 500 wiped down with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner.

I didn't get it done in time for CoMMiESFest, but I will press on. A quick wash of burnt umber.

Does Sniper pod give F-15C precision A2G capability?
admiralcag replied to Marv's topic in Research Corner
Interesting. I did not know that. -
Does Sniper pod give F-15C precision A2G capability?
admiralcag replied to Marv's topic in Research Corner
The Sniper allows the pilot to lase the target, so laser guided bombs could be used immediately. The Sniper works with the JDAMs, but the bomb needs to be connected via an umbilical. The pylon and the avionics need to support that. Vern -
Yeah... The bottle won this time :(

My youngest wanted a modeling day yesterday, so I burnt a day of vacation and obliged him. Next task - nose gear

More work from this weekend. I haven't put this much time in in quite a while. Feels good! fuselage halves assembled I need a new 000 brush. The 0 doesn't cut it. I also use Tamiya NATO Black for a bit of scale effect.
-
Dang. I never got to see behind the cockpit when I was in Keflavik. I am under a bit of a time crunch, so my model will suffer from Tamiya syndrome and I am okay with that. One of the mottoes of the CoMMiES is "Finished is better than perfect." The other is "We're not evil. We're just dicks." Vern

It took an afternoon to do both the top and bottom of the fuselage. I was lucky enough to find some thick Dymo tape and that worked pretty well, except on the compound curves of the intake trunks and engines. Practice, practice, practice! Vern

I have finally gotten some more work done. I actually misplaced it during a massive house clean-up and it delayed me for a while. The gear bays, shaped and painted. Installed. Not perfect, but I will work on it. The ejection seat. This is the first time I used Perfect Plastic Putty. Turned out pretty good. And the interior green. More to follow... Vern
-
Pay attention to the fit between the engines and the frame, for lack of a better word. It's tricky to get them straight and could need a lot of putty, like Phantom said. Looking good so far!

Have you built this kit before? Vern

Peace and strength to you and your family. As a father, I can't imagine your loss. Vern

Sunday's work - one of the clubs I am in has biweekly build sessions. It seems this is the only time I get to build. First things first. I needed to identify which lead is which. Once I got that done, I cut them. This should make handling the parts for seam work much easier. I do need to ponder how I am going to power it as the battery box in the light kit doesn't even come close to fitting. I am thinking a jack for a wall wart. Vern
