  1. Echoing what Kurt said. I have a set of diamond files from Harbor Freight, but I think the Tamiya will last longer. I also have a pair of Xuron smooth jaw wide pliers and a pair of Xuron smooth jaw needle nose pliers. I use a #10 blade as well. Nothing is more frustrating than launching a piece of etch into the stratosphere! Vern
  2. You can find it in the automotive section at Walmart or other department and hardware stores. It's a degreaser, so it may be with the other cleaners as well. Wear gloves because it will suck all the oil from your skin.
  3. The ejection seat is different as well. I don't remember if the G has the older seat. Vern
  4. Purple Power/Castrol Super Clean. I have found Simple Green works but can be really sloooooowwwww. Vern
  5. Still plugging away... Ready to paint the bays Alclad aluminum. Trying to paint the mains at the same time as the bay didn't work well. I was having airbrush trouble and I was out of aluminum. Interesting fact - when Alclad bubbles in the airbrush, it leaves a lattice of metallic particles. New needle should be arriving today. Vern
  6. I really want to get the Weeks drawings. I have a set of his Mercury drawings and they are very nice. I have a 1/96 Saturn V that is waiting for the funds to do right. Vern
  7. Straight from the bottle. If you do have flow issues, add a few drops of the Acryl thinner. Vern
  8. So, here is my first build in honor of mankind's greatest achievement! I am really happy that Photobucket relented a little bit, because I am drawing on Mike Idacavage's legendary build. I have the Tango Papa decals and I will be doing a little shopping at Shapeways before I am done. I started by trimming the tabs at the bottom. I removed part of the fuel line. Looking at photos, I figured if should go to about the top of the fins. You can see my calculations. Marking where the aluminum tubes will go. I need
  9. My goal is to actually finish a group build on time. I have 3 in mind for this one. Man in Space Saturn V Man in Space Saturn IB Airfix Lunar Module, which just needs to be completed. The Man in Space builds need to be done by mid April so they can be a part of the model contest at Starfest Denver. Shameless plug - I put together that contest. Let me know if you want details. Wish me luck! Vern
  10. Life has gotten really in the way since October... I thought I had more pictures on the phone of my work. They may have gotten lost when I upgraded it, too. I got the main landing gear done and the AIM-9s and launchers done a while ago. Primed the model with Mr Surfacer Black and redid some of the seam filling work. Still not happy with the seams. Canopy framing painted, intakes installed and masked, and ready for priming. AIM-9s and main landing gear assembled. One thing that was goofy on the AIM-9s was it looked like the missile umbilical was molded
  11. I am partial to Wings over the Rockies in Denver. I learned my trade under the B-1. Have been to the Air Force Museum several times. Vern
  12. I am so sorry to hear about your health issues. Praying for the best. Vern
  13. I am still working on mine. Life has gotten in the way. In a big way. Sorry, boss.
