  3. Coming on board with 2 entries Hasegawa 1/32 Zero OOB started the cockpit before my apartment flooded and forgot all about it for a few years And What-if P-38 crossed with a Dinah. Engine cowlings from the Modeler's weapon shop (had this idea for a while and Jrallman says its good to go-thank you!) Moderator edit: Just wanted to clarify this. The GB rules say no what ifs, but Taiidan contacted me prior to posting this and is going to build the what if to include in the group atmosphere, but with the understanding that it does not meet the GB inclusion criteria and therefore will not qua
  4. I agree Jay, like i said give someone a blueprint they can build it, so much the better if you have the actual part in front of you. copying is easier than inventing. I read Iranian Tomcat Units in combat and although i think the kill tallies may be inflated and some stories exaggerated but i believe by and large they are accurate. moreover many of the Iranians are quick to point out that thanks to Iran-contra the embargo was anything but...another reason its a bit of sore point with us. (im not trying to spark a debate here just saying) even they admit they were down to about a dozen flyable
  5. besides the chin pod The F-15 in the background should have been a redflag
  6. The Rumor is that they have become good at reverse engineering Tomcat components, that during the war they made indigenous parts (simple stuff like brakes, and other parts that wear quickly). They have said that since then they have become good at engineering the more complex assemblies...i don't know how much of that is true. they have had the jet for 25 years now, and its one thing to invent-- another to simply copy so their could be some merit to it. The Tomcat is an American icon and watching the "Tomcat Sunset" with Terry Dietz they seemed to say all Alicats are grounded and stand by for
  7. I have seen that used in a few publications about the IRIAF... pretty much the highest compliment a modeler can get- they are passing it off as the real thing!! Last flight of the Tomcat my @$$. Iran having a super carrier is pretty unlikely so we may have seen the last Trap and Cat but the last flight has not happened yet.
  8. Right on Brian!! and Tomcat Alley does rock, if you are a Tomcat fan and don't have it you need to talk to Dave. I have never seen a book like it or since and i love all the tail fins and patches at the end i will not miss your next book Dave even if its published in 2012. That Revell Tomcat is superb VF-103 guy!! more Revell: http://www.scalemodelart.com/frames/f14_02_progress.htm http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/J...dt/f14/f14.html Tamiya: http://www.naritafamily.com/howto/F14D/photo_frame.htm
  9. Exactly, lots of folks could pitch in i see people on this site all the time with fantastic research, first hand knowledge of the Tomcat, and instructional ability (see VF-103 Guy's article on fading TPS) . the book would make some money. as i listed all the subjects that could be done i realize there are a lot of different cats even though they are only operated by two (one now) countries. lots of schemes, diorama options, aftermarket stuff (with more on the way hopefully ) and of course tons of maintenance panels to open, and one in every scale. there are a lot of "little tricks" to buildi
  10. I'm about to go to work here (how do they always call just as i sit down with a kit and some paint?) so i will make this quick. I just ordered my 4th osprey modeling guide this will mean i have one for the F-4, F-18, Harrier, and soon corsair. So my question is where is the Tomcat book? I know there are a few people in here who could write that book single handedly! i loved Darren Robert's Article on the Top Gun cat in FSM and i think there is plenty of room for more. Tomcats are so popular on ARC and there are some talented folks here who put them together. it seems like money in the bank! al
  11. Welcome aboard!! Great F-16!
  12. My Sandhawg, I think I'm going to start on this... Paint and seats on the way! Rock solid Profiles all around, they all look sharp well done Gentlemen...now to write my congresswoman about Typhoons for Alaska...
  13. i know its his money, he earned it (hopefully) and can spend it how he wishes... but im still shocked at it... prices like that i tend to think a little more 1/1 scale.
  14. That looks Amazing! love the markings and flag tail! And Jason cant wait to see more of your flankers the IAF one will look great just like the Egyptian, well done!
  15. Those two sites are why we have an internet, good god! thank you both for posting!!
  16. i saw a b-17G, but it didnt land at the airport i work at. the winds were nasty so im hoping it return from the other airport soon and i get some pics for all the prop guys. i still have a few quick ones on my phone that i took the last time a b-17G stayed but i haven't uploaded them. ;)
  17. i read about the F-4X, Variable Geometry F-4, and had seen plans to add AMRAAM upgrades, and an underside tank with new engines. i cant afford the new American secret projects:fighters book and was hoping to get some direction to other net sources that have some stuff about all these Phantom upgrades that never came to fruition. TIA ;) Semper Fi, Ben
  18. Dead on Ric, especially since the fellow who did the original that Cutting Edge copied has an in progress guide... i could buy the materials and every "high speed, Gucci" tool from micro mark and do it myself...its not like no one has converted a Phantom before, its been done in every scale! moreover, there is a void that could be filled buy any manufacturer who is willing to produce a conversion set and at a cheaper price than even Cutting Edges original... just a matter of time. modeling is about patience after all and at these prices i can wait.
  19. I remember seeing a trumpeter A-10A's nose being sanded down due to incorrect shape is it the same on Trumpeter's two seater?
  20. There is no such thing as a perfect model. i dont care how much time, money, effort, and research you put in- it is not perfect. that doesnt mean of course that you dont keep trying to improve, but my big gripe are folks who get into arguments about things like that. someone will put down a superb model and its seems within seconds people are already griping about how he used "the wrong color of..." truth is, especially in war, planes are not painted to spec. not to mention weathering, upkeep, sun bleaching, mud, humidity the list goes on. im happy to see any model, yeah none are perfect, but
  21. you could always try a bit of hand painting... it is only single color, from the side. or make an actual stencil just like the real thing (i suggest masking tape or parafilm if you have it) i have to do profiles like that for my sci fi modeling.
  22. Great Flankers!! when are you going to do Tomcats? captured by Iraq, RAF (treble one? ), RN, Australia, Israel, and of course the USMC. it was rumored that the IRIAF gave a Tomcat to the Soviets, Iran also briefly considered selling them to the Saudis after the revolution but before the Iran-Iraq war.i even had a bit of a far fetched idea of a Iran Cat defecting east to afghanistan, which leaves tons of camoflauge/marking ideas.
