  1. Following this as I've been trying to finish off an Italeri 1/48 Desert Storm myself for...some time Anyhoo, a good reference site for Desert Storm is http://www.dstorm.eu...n/index_en.html Lots of useful sections from serial-numbers to camouflage and loadouts!
  2. I've had the pleasure of going through the whole WIP thread and now these pics and I am simply godsmacked by your skills! Amazing job, Janissary! This is one hell of a Viper :D
  3. Thanks for the replies guys! @Pete PM sent @Netz, If you guys promise not to laugh too hard :) I'm trying to build it out of an Italeri A version (link to model on Italeri site). I *think* it has the small stabs...not so sure. Also, I don't have an "air" setup, just use brushes, hope that paints a picture (excuse the pun) of how it might turn out. Btw, while we're here, didn't they get to mount the extra flare dispensers on the jets for op.Opera? I've already ripped them off of an F-4 :)
  4. Does anybody know where I could get some decent Netz decals in 48th scale cheaper than the Isradecal ones? Don't want to sound cheap but I only want to build one Osirak bird and dishing out 30$ on a single decal sheet is a bit much for me...
  5. The site looks great! I want to take this chance to thank you, Steve, for all the hard work you've put into the wonderful model-building Heaven that is ARC!!! You tha' man!!! :D
  6. Thanks Pete! Now I know I also need a 23rd TFW decal :P :D
  7. Hi there! Thanks for your answer. I want to build a Desert Storm bird, namely col. D.E. Sawyer's plane 80-0186. Now I'm not a rivet-counter by any means (I can barely make one rivet, lol) so I wouldn't mind building it without the cover if it's realistic. I did notice that on post-DS birds those 2 covers are gone... I am grateful for any input :) Cheers!
  8. Hi! Small household "dusting" accident took its toll on my in-progress build, an Italeri A-10. The lost part is 65c in this pic: Thanks!
  9. Roger that. Thank you both for your help! I just need to sit an exam in the morning (erm..in 4 hours) and then I'm off to "ze lab" for testing! :D There..you got me all excited again! I haven't touched this model in 2 months..I think the paint should be cured, no? :D Thanks again! Cheers!
  10. Thank you for your replies! @Triarius: of course I will practice first! I'm building for myself, I don't want to ruin my work :) also, it's cheaper to practice first, I've noticed :P As Dndieje probably noticed (you did mention it) I did think of the Humbrol flat varnish and I've already tested that over the Humbrol gloss varnish that I have, with a decal sandwiched in between :) It looks ok but I will do more testing with that, especially on a larger surface (this was the size of a thumb nail) and see how it goes. However, with both your opinions, I'm inclining towards the acrylic option.
  11. Ah, I've attracted professional attention..excellent! :) Thanks for the feedback and the link! Lots of great info at Swanny's, especially a beginner like me :) So, what if I try Future->decals (dipped in Future)->all sealed with a flat finish made up of Tamiya Flat Base+Future? From what you wrote (and what I read :) ) it seems to be the best option for me in terms of being easy to brush on and easier to correct than other options (esp. enamels). Sorry, I couldn't follow..do you mean I should thin the Tamiya FB or the Future with Iso-Alch.? I've read about isopropyl alcohol breakin
  12. Hello guys! I'm a beginner in the world of proper modelling (like someone else stated in an older topic, I've done some before but I was just slapping the bits together with glue and painting them with one coat at the end :P). I'm currently trying to finish an Italeri A-10. I've done the camouflage (First Desert War bird, Euro I camo) and I would really like to give it a flat finish. Which leads me to my 2 questions: 1. What would be a good combo both for placing the decals and for getting that flat finish? (from what I've read in these amazing forums, I need a gloss surface for good decal
  13. Best things that worked for me: fishing weights made of lead and heavy nuts (inside an Italeri A-10, where I thought a fishing weight that big would be too heavy and too hard to hold down). Any of these, fixed in place with the least amount of glue or none at all. Reason:My worst choice when building a model (or *why you should never put away your brain when working on a model*): using small nails in the radome of a 1/48 Tomcat...filled with uhu glue...:| The next morning, all the plastic left on that radome was about the size of a toothpick..
  14. Actually, I'm really considering getting whatever I will get from "abroad". Germany, UK, even US (but that is a bit far and would probably lift the transport price quite a bit :) ) As for the pricing..well, modelling isn't such a big business over here so there aren't many shops or importers. I guess anyone who brings in something tries to take advantage of this pseudo-monopoly... Secondly, V.A.T. in Romania is currently 19% and it looks like, due to the world econ.crisis they're going to make it 24% :| good times....SH** @Pep, I would consider such an option but my main problem is I really
