Thanks guys, it's all worked out with Mat and yes unfortunately it wasn't the best few days in recent memory (all's ok now). As I explained to Mat after he admitted he posted on here, if you're ever unhappy with a trade with me, let me know and I will make it right, promise. College kid? I wish! Been in the Washington DC rat race for 2 years now (American Wind Energy Association, busier than Ive ever been in my life!) and loving it but kinda miss those university days up in the frozen Ottawa tundra :-) Cheers all, Mike

You get the option of a stand for wheels up on this one, a nice touch for some. The left full fuselage half isn't included, only the one with a giant hold cut in the side. There are floor and ceiling pieces for each deck, with all the seats molded in. Painting each one is going to be a royal pain in the butt but it'll look pretty darn impressive when all done up right. I'm not sure I'd say it's worth the $80-ish price tag (I found it cheaper at lucky model but after shipping it worked out only marginally cheaper) but its big and ugly - the perfect centerpiece for a 1/144 shelf

Italeri's rerelease of the -R just hit spruebrothers.com yesterday http://store.spruebrothers.com/shared/Stor...et=products.asp EDIT:... disregard, i didnt read all posts in this and someone beat me to mentioning this.

beautiful! I finished mine within a day of starting it - didn't put as much effort into the airbrush job as you clearly have but man oh man, i can't complain, i'd rank that on par with the best tamiya kit I've ever built!
-
Hey Harold, I've got the kit en route from Lucky Model at the moment, would love to get my hands on this pit one way or another! Cheers, Mike
-
Mine's all ready to airbrush. what a freakin gorgeous kit to build, I'd rank it up there with the tamiya me262 in terms of fit. Extra surprising given that the fuselage has sides 2 pieces on the top, two forward fuse halves, a nosecone, and the rear fuse piece. they all fit *perfectly.* Pics once it's done!

hundred to 150? last ones I've been bidding on on ebay have sold between 300 and 500 bucks. man, if SOL knew how much those molds were worth they'd be living like sultans

Effin A, I managed to fanangle my real job and my part time job and will be making a guest appearance at some point on the friday or saturday of the Nats. SA-WEEEEEEET

Unfortunately no updates since my last posting... work has been non-stop surrounding out annual conference and my new promotion (hooray!) has given me more responsibilities, aka, more work (un-hooray!). I've shelved everything to build two of the new airfix canberra's in rnzaf markings (fathers day/dads bday present and one for me) and will try to get back to the XL once those are done. Patience, grasshopper...

Thanks Alan, it's the Wild Hare (Meteor) conversion and tamiya block 52

Hey Pete - Did you happen to take any more pix of the f-18 windscreen being faired on? I'm looking at doing the same for my F-2XL. That thing is looking absolutely amazing by the way! Can't wait to see more pix. Mike
-
Good idea indeed, Pete. Frankly that one boils down to a toss-up between patience, time, and interested in finishing the model. I have to be careful to keep the latter more heavily weighted than the other two or this thing will never get done. Definitely a good idea though!

Well, it is a what-if... No avionics spine - never been a fan of that on any aircraft (skyhawk, falcon, of any other that I cant think of). This will be all decked out with ordinance and likely will have at least one intake pod. Sa-weeeeeet!

Just wanted to apologize for the delay in updates - ive moved into my new place and half settled in, so I hope to have some time to do some work (and post more pix of!) this baby by early next week. The XL is sitting on my shelf next to a primed Trumpeter E-100 tank, which by the way is a very nice build and freakin huge in the scale for a tank. Sure, it's no Dora rail gun, but its big!

Hey Storm - if I ever hear back from Hawkeye Decals, I will acquire a set of black rnzaf lo-viz decals from a 32nd A-4K and do em like that. Kiwiland could always use a big sexy strike falcon with CFTs :-) If I can get those, the jasdf decals will be relegated to large scale f4/f15's i have en route. Either way, I win!

*FINALLY* an update! Ok, this isn't a very interesting one regarding new pix... I managed to glue the wings on tonight, and load the nose and nosecone with pennies/nickels (because I hadnt put enough money into this!) for weight before gluing the nosecone on. No more taping the things on for pix Taking a hint from Pete "Pig" Fleischmann's triple F-16 build, I'm going to try to track down a windscreen from an academy f-18. I'll cut the f-16 canopy to match the angle of the front part, but plan to pose this open and will not worry about making a middle canopy piece with a deeper curve. Wo

That Viggen looks great in egyptian colors! Anyone want to take a stab at the Draken, as a warm-up for the upcoming hasegawa kit? :D

Given the number of requests, anyone uploading what-if schemes on aircraft "should" upload the following of any given aircraft: Jolly Rogers, Swedish Splinter, Flanker Splinter, JASDF blues, Hellenic (Greek) air force, and Israeli. Possibly also at least one air display team :-) Think how fast this board would grow if everyone uploaded all of those at least? Don't get me wrong, I don't in any way expect this to be the case, just a fun thought! Now, will someone please do an AP-2H Neptune gunship in some of those listed markings? haha!

Quick update: I've started playing with squadron green putty (...simply cant get tamiya anymore :) ) to make the CFT's look like they fit fully. I will try to get some pictures tonight or tomorrow of the latest progress even if that progress isn't progressing. Yes, I like to use words multiple times in sentences even if it's not perfect English ;)

I do, actually! I'm going to mod some sidewinders with new fins to make AAM-3's for the wingtips, stock amraams in the recessed bays, modify Harpoons with new fins to make the anti-ship missiles, and I'll figure out after that what I can hang on any remaining pylons, if any. One thing's for sure, there will be no external fuel tanks!
-
Richard, those look great!! I think I may have just found some markings for my 1/32 brit phantom conversion...
-
It's probably the lighting, the nose fits pretty much perfectly

Got the fuselage halves glued together, finally. I had to really work at the resin around the cockpit, and the pit itself, so that everything would sit half-flush. The resin was a little warped on this one where the wing contours to front fuselage, and so even with a ton of pressure, CA, accelerator... you get the idea... There's still a bit of a seam on each side that will need to be worked on. I had originally tried to glue fuselage w/ epoxy and that failed miserably, so there definitely is cleanup that will need to be done. One CFT is almost together fully now as you can see int he

Lookin good Mario, keep it up!

Anyone else having trouble registering for the what-if modelers forum? I can't view an image of letters for verification in either Internet Explorer or Firefox, and the "listen to the letters" link doesnt work for me. Quaint...
