  1. I was just browsing thru the Sprue Brothers website and I came across a new company selling 1/24 scale kits of WWI aircraft.  They currently list a Spad, SE-5A and a Fokker DR-1.  Is anyone familiar with these kits?    I'm wondering if they're any good.  Nice large scale.

  2. Can someone recommend a good first airbrush that won't break the bank but still be capable of good results once I learn how to use it properly?  I had an airbrush long ago but after several moves, I have no idea what became of it.  I'm an aircraft modeler and I'm thinking about going back into plastic modeling.  Currently,  I build and fly R/C sailplanes and an airbrush could be useful for touching up repairs but my primary interest is for plastic scale models.  Suggestions are very welcome.  Things to look out for are especially welcome.

  3. Some of you may note that one subject we had previously hinted at producing, a 1:32 Curtiss P6-E is missing from this list. We had indeed planned to release this kit, but it would have been in resin. An injected plastic kit manufacturer was kind enough to contact us about this subject, and expressed their desire to release an injected plastic kit of this subject

I don't suppose you would be at liberty to disclose the company bringing out this kit?

  4. Hi Guys,

I am trying to find out what aircraft Raymond Collishaw shot down while flying Strutter '9407' on 25th Oct 1916. I know it was a 'Fokker' but what do you guys think it would have been, an E.III, D.II or either?

It is for a painting I am doing to enter for next years Guild of Aviation Artists exhibition in London

    Regards and many Thanks

    Lee

    ;)

I would think it would most likely be an E.III but I can't think of any way I could prove it.

  5. Awesome renditions of one butt ugly bird! The red paint does help it though

    Steve

Oh, I don't know about that. I think it falls into the category of so ugly its cute! I just kinda like the looks of the cowled radial tail dragger Yak 18.

  6. ;),

Hm, had a look at one of the O-1 Bird Dogs I have in the stash and I reckon I can convert it to a 170. Just needs a bit of formwork laid onto the empenage up to the Bird Dog's rear window and fill that in with card and filler and change the shape of the door and add a new one on the left hand side, rub the heavy window frames down, fill in the top windows, change the shape of the rear side windows and remove the radio areials on the tailplanes. With all that extra weight behind the main gear there's no way it would be a nose sitter. Then all that would need to done is make up a couple of control wheels from wire and a couple of pairs of rudder pedals and voila a 1/72 scale Cessna 170. Not strictly accurate but I think good enough for a representation in 'braille scale'.

    Ross.

Funny, I always hankered to take a Monogram 180 and a 1/48 L-19 and make an OE-2. Never got around to it, tho.

  7. Cheers guys!

pbishop- You ought to be able to find a 170 easy enough in your part of the world. All it takes to get her looking good is a bit of paint stripper and a bucket load of elbow grease! That's a bloody good idea about the sticker, I'll suggest that too the owner! :)

RCoulter52- The aircraft started it's life as an early Cessna 172. The 170 and early 172 are almost identical, save for empenage, a bit of internal structure, swapping a nosewheel to tailwheel, and moving the main landing gear forwards. Fairly common mod, and it results in a MUCH prettier aeroplane!

Are they keeping the original tail? If they do, it will look more like a 180 than a 170!
