  1. Growlers can be easily found for around $65-70 shipped. Plus you get a few HARMS for the stash. If you need an early block super, the only thing needed is the quick boost early ECS. Other parts are exactly the same as F-18F kits with the addition of a few growler sprues.
  2. I agree. Maybe you were doing a vet a favor by helping him raise some cash for his/her family or help them out of a troubled situation. Lots of different things could be going on behind the scenes. I wouldn't feel bad about buying it. You did nothing wrong. It reminds me of an episode of "Pawn Stars". A guy sold a map with the battle plans that his father carried during the Battle of Iwo Jima for a mere $2200. I could never sell something that historically important, but let alone if it was a part of my own family history!
  3. It would have been nice if they would have at least included the featherless exhausts that have been around since forever and are needed to go with their updated decals. Unfortunately the OOP CE exhausts will continue to cost more than the kit...
  4. Unfortunately your best bet is to buy them in person at the Nats.
  5. PM send on fightertown 48-049 VF-84 sheet and afterburner 48-077
  6. I think the question was more about the overall shape of the missile. Is there anything distinguishing other than the stenciling that denotes it as a D rather than a C?
  7. http://science-edu.larc.nasa.gov/contrail-edu/science.php It's science!
  8. How do you figure? The nfl makes more money than any other league in the world. They just need to dish out a token punishment, ride out the public out cry, establish a "protocol" or "public outreach" rinse and repeat. Unless they start loses fans, nothing real will ever change.
  9. 1) hate to say it, but it's fast food workers where the basic job requirement is a pulse. But hey they all "deserve" $15/hr min wage. 2)laziness is not unique to an age group or demographic. Where I work it seems their are examples of the younger workers who are motivated and willing to go the extra mile where as some of the older workers are unwilling/unable to adapt to new problems. It is frustrating to work with people who are working only to punch the clock. I think older workers can grow complacent or be "beaten down by the system". Don't get me wrong, the vast majority of my coworke
  10. For sale: 1/48 hasegawa F-18A. $50+shipping. Pm for shipping quote. Paypal only. Would consider trades for a special boxing of 1/48 hasegawa F-18C or F-14A. PM me for trade list. Thanks for looking!
  11. I thought I read somewhere that Amazon uses some sort of algorithm to determine the price of "rare" or OOP books. It is based on the number of hits a product gets versus the number of items available. So when a bunch of people click on a item, the prices goes up, even if no one is buying it. Eventually the price adjusts when enough time passes that shows the interest has been lost. In a way it becomes a self licking ice cream cone when people see an outrageous price and then post it for others to see. Generating more hits and causing the price to rise further.
  12. Doesn't have to be. Just expressing an opinion related to the article.
  13. Interestng. I'm not sure I'm as optimistic about the future of models as the author. I'm 32 and one of the youngest in my club. Same goes for shows and model store clientele. Not a scientific survey but it seems to be more of a trend. Kids that are interested seem to gravitate toward rc. The comparison to lego doesn't hold water imo. Lego kits can be completed in minutes or hours, don't require glue or paint, and can be disassembled or played with. Models are fragile (not kid friendly)
  14. http://modelingmadness.com/splfeat/kr/has48d.htm This link will tell u what is in every kit.
  15. Hasegawa has white metal landing gear. Whether or not that is a pro or con is up for debate.
  16. Are you sure you are talking about the same kit? I've built 4 1/48 hasegawa hornets with another in progress, 20 others in the stash including some of the newest boxings, and none have any flash. My only complaint about the kit is some injector pin marks on the gear doors and the fit of the intakes can be a bit better, but overall a good kit. I'll take it over copy boss any time. Also you can regularly get them on ebay for less than $50 shipped. Newer boxings with updated parts you can get from amazon for $55 shipped.
  17. Wow, a light hearted tread about over priced crap, to a lecture in economics and western idology. Anything else you want to teach us professor? Here's another good one. http://m.ebay.com/itm/181713479760?nav=SEARCH Even if you didn't know you can usually find the kit for $30 at a show, the one listed directly above it is only $65.
  18. I've lost one of the side AoA probes on my tomcat. Hasegawa part number H18. If anyone has an extra or a junked kit, please send me a PM. Thanks!
  19. It was an ECP on the F414. The notched VEN outer flaps will replace by attrition the un-notched version. F404 started it life without notches but now all have been replaced. Each engine is treated as a separate unit. A maintenance action to one does not necessarily mean the other is affected. That's why you can have two engines installed with different VEN flaps.
  20. I've bought a few with this very purpose in mind. Unless you are building an early block F (pre-2006 ish) this is the kit you want. Leave off the wing pods and various other growler antenna, use the dog toothed leading edge flaps, omit the wing fences, and you've got a super.
  21. Thanks for the replies guys. The kit calls for part D5 for the engine. Is this correct or should I use D4?
  22. There's your problem. This is the oldest boxing, your decals could be up to 25 years old. Definitely in house hasegawa decals (aka they sucked to begin with). Best advice would be to find an aftermarket set. In the future try looking on ebay or model shows for the Pacific fleet hasegawa F-14s. You can get them for less than half of what you paid.
  23. it's a nice area but the bridge can be a choke point. One accident and you may as well eat dinner at work. Personally I avoided Solomons due to traffic, but friends I have on the other side are happy living there. Although most either leave before 1600 or after 1730. When I first moved here I rented a 3 bedroom townhouse off of chancellors run road. It was a short commute and decent area. Close to shopping and restaurants. Rent was around $1300/MO if I recall. If you are going to be here for a while you might consider renting for a year or so to get to know the area.
  24. Actually a new SOP. 5 wet is less efficient than single centerline, so it is a the preferred configuration when operations allow for it.
