I think it's very easy to do if you don't seat the needle properly after disassembly. I always use the method that I show in this video so that you don't flare the tip or cause wear to the needle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulWFoG5Inmw

The fact that you think shaping a piece of wood, no larger than a couple of coffee stir sticks, is "extreme", pretty much says it all. So perhaps your method is at the limit of your comfort level, but I would prefer to not draw conclusions about the limitations of other modelers, so I like to present a choice.

I've been working on an alternative method of creating a Spitfire Mk XIVc. I like this method much better ... I know there are a few individuals out there who staunchly hang on to the idea that you should use the Airfix PR XIX as the basis for conversion to the Mk XIV. If these are indeed true lacquers, every subsequent coat is a solvent for the underlying layers. Lacquer paints actually dry ... in other words ... they get hard due to the evaporation of the solvent. Application of additional coats will soften your underlying layers. Eduard will have to step up their game if they are going to compete with Tamiya on this one. I'm building it now and it is one of the best engineered kits I've seen. You can see whoever designed the kit is a real model maker. Neither Eduard's Spit IX or their newest Tempest are thought out as well, or precisely molded, as the Tamiya kit. I also prefer Tamiya's representation of surface detail. Eduard would be better served if they moved up their timeline on the Tempest Mk II. They would have an exclusive on that one. Paul

In my experience, the only really good flush cutting hard wire cutters are made for orthodontic use ... Like these But they are EXTREMELY expensive and not for large diameter wire ... Paul
