  1. Hi Can I join with a 1/72 B-36? My dad came to visit the other day and asked if I would build it for him, after a few seconds deliberation between wanting to say yes to him and having to explain to my wife just how big the kit it is, (and keeping certain parts of my body attached at the same time), I decided to 'risk it for a biscuit' and agreed to do it. Please let me know if it is ok, I will post pics as I go if i get the go ahead. Cheers Tim
  2. Hi Ryan, Thanks mate for the kind comments. I find the two best tips are buy good paint and good brushes. Flat brushes are best for larger areas. If you are using enamels thin the paint a little, a few light coats are better than one, heavy brush stroked one and if (like me) you prefer acrylics, make sure the paint is again thinned ,but also do not let the paint start to dry on the brush, keep it damp and the paint regularly mixed. And finally use KLEAR floor polish (not sure what it is called in the states), it is the forgiver of all brush strokes!. I have also just been passed on a tip by J
  3. In order to give my eyes a rest from all the 1.144 kit bashing, I've been working on a Hasegawa T4 from the Blue Impulse Japanese display team. It was kindly given to me by a fellow ARC'er (cheers Tony ). It is a pretty basic kit but, when finished in the Blue Impulse colours, Wow, it looks great (not due to my ham fisted buiding, I mean the real ones must look stunning). I sprayed it in Appliance white and painted the Blue on rather than using the decals supplied. I did this as Hasegawa dont actually give you all the decals in blue, so you have to colour match. Im not that good at that sort
  4. My next finished entry is the 1/144 uh-60 JASDF Blackhawk, its a PLATZ kit, had a disater involving the decals and the washing machine, but things turned out ok in the end. Hope you like it
  5. Here are my 1/144 Blue Angels F-18, Thunderbirds F-16 and Patrouille de France Alpha jet kits, check out my build thread to enjoy the whole saga! And Mike, thanks for the kind words on Izzys kit, she is still chuffed that people can see and like her plane from America! Sorry for adding more than 5 pics
  6. Finished!. I have touched all the paintwork up as much as I can, and used some rub down decals for the writing under the wings. If I am honest, im not all that happy with it but, im fed up of seeing it sitting around. Hope you like it, and hope you are all enjoying your builds!
  7. Hi Im izzy I would like to join the group build . I want to build a Tempest (its a small one like daddys). I am doing this before my F-16. Daddy and me looked on the computer and it was in 'operation Diver', in world war 2, it looked interesting when we saw it. It will be green and grey with a white stripe (501 sqn), I hope it will look good. Here is a picture of it, it is very small, 1/144 like my dads. Hi Dad here, I will join this one too, For a change im building in 1/72. I would like to build an F-IIIF, from Lakenheath 48th TFW, operation El Dorado canyon. Hope you all dont min
  8. Hi im Izzy, I built a thunderbirds, thunderjet. It was quite hard but I got on with it, and enjoyed it. I like the stars on the tail. I hope you like it. Im building an F-16 next. love Izzy.
  9. A quick alpha jet update, had to mask and spray the whole thing due to no-body bringing out a patrouille de france kit in 1/144, shame on you Revell et all! (after my crude yet time consuming efforts, somebody will no do so, a bit like me nearly sanding my fingers off to do a welsh models hawk, then Ozmods bring one out, grrrr). I painted it totally the wrong colour blue to begin with, but have since found a more suitable shade.
  10. Thanks for the kind comments chaps,as for the question of the decals fitting on the dragon kit, they should fit on, I have several dragon blackhawks, I've even built one (building being something of a rarity these days) and I think they would fit just fine. The dragon kit looks great but the dragon kit has better internal and rotar detail. The P/E is great but, I didnt put it all on in the end, maybe on the next one, I quite fancy a 1/144 jayhawk! Thanks again Tim
  11. Completed the F16 tonight, hope you like it. And a couple of shots with the Blue Angels hornet completed for this group build, and a Red Arrows hawk (not entered), all 1/144, the hawk is a vacform kit. Will update when I have the alpha jet done, and hopefully i'll get the flanker done to! Thanks for looking Tim
  12. I have had a productive day, though my wife will disagree, I finished a 1/144 blackhawk that i was forced to build and paint pretty quick due to a bit of a mishap with the decals, basically I left them in my jeans pocket (dont ask) and then proceded to put them in the washing machine, DOH! Luckily they were in a plastic pocket, so although they were soaked through they stayed intact, but this forced me into a quick build, or face losing the decals. I bought the kit from HLJ a while ago, its a double kit box, both in the lovely yellow and white scheme but one with an attractive dragon down the
  13. Dude, they look awesome, and a great idea for display. Looking forward to seeing this one done!
  14. Well its been a while but we have made progress, well Izzy has made more than me but, we are a bit further along. Izy has finished her thunderjet, and it looks awesome. All I did for her was mask the canopy (a thunderjets glass lid is a bit much for me let alone a six year old) and I put setting solution on the decals once she had put them on, as Hobbyboss decals are quite thick, though they did settle reasonably well. Her next build is an F-16 she won from her first group build. She put a pilot in it from the spares box As for me, well the hornet is done and i put the decals on the f
  15. Hi guys Thanks for all the kind words and great advice. I am now used to it, though I did get my age wrong, I will only be 32 when the fun begins (what do youknow, Ive had a senior moment already). I plan on taking all the good advice, especially the part where i get to give it back the moment they start sounding like they may need something other than sound aircraft recognition advice! Izzy and I havent managed to do much modelling of late, we are still yet to finish off our display aircraft, maybe this weekend. She has the makings of a true modeller though, as she already wants
  16. wow, didnt realise there were prizes, awesome. Strangely, I only bought the academy kc-97 last week, how bizare is that! Thanks guys, you are great. The build was thoroughly enjoyable, and this reminds me to put the landing gear doors on the C17 the right way round! Thanks again, for all your efforts in putting a group build together. Tim
  17. Hi guys I finally can get round to saying a BIG thank you for the prizes both Izzy and me recieved in the gone but not forgotten group build. As you can see was well chuffed, like i mentioned, getting your own post when you are only six is a big deal, hence the box with the filling was nearly as exciting as the kit! We will post pics as she gets round to making it, nearly the summer hols here, so there will be plenty of oppotunity. I too was v gratefull for the tomcat decals, i was obviously gutted that i had to buy a new 1/48 tomcat to put them on  ! Thanks again, and I am reall
  18. Hi Wow, thanks. Izzy is well chuffed, both with the prize and the fact she will get post (apparently thats a big deal when your six!). I too am really grateful, mostly that you guys went to the trouble of organizing a great group build, that really inspires us to actually finish our kits. I am also over the moon with the decals, got to get a 1/48 tomcat now though (life's hard!) I will post pics of Izzy's f-16 as she builds it, I may need to help her a bit with this one, though she will probably insist she is fine on her own. Thanks again and E-Mail sent. Regards Tim
  19. Good work guys. I told Izzy about the raffle just as she was going to bed tonight, big mistake! Keep it up, and hope you can do another GB soon ( SAC, TAC and MAC schemes, no pressure!) Cheers Tim
  20. I've decided I cant wait until I finish the hawkeye, and I need to catch up with Izzy! So I have started all four tonight. Like I previously mentioned, I am not going to upgrade the cockpits like I normally would with Aeroclubs 1/144 seats, so I have started with painting the pilots in situ. My eyes are now bleeding but, i'm actually quite pleased with the results. The alphajet cockpit is not much better and has just been basically painted. alpha jet so far As for the bell, well she is nearly done! I masked the canopy for her as the F-84 is not really a six year old friendly one! she als
  21. Thanks for all the kind comments guys, I will show Izzy them when she gets up for school in the morning, actually I might just show her after school, the love of airplanes she gets from me, the moody mornings she gets from her mother! I am so much braver when I know my wife will never read any of this! Cheers Tim
  22. Hi Guys, Well I've been looking forward to this one for a bit, as it means I can build several of the kits ive been waiting to do for ages. Izzy, who is six, quite fancies a go too and is already further along than me. She is already an old hand at this group build malarky, this will be her second entry, having previously entered the 'gone but not forgotten' build. Funnily enough though, her mum (my wife) isn't nearly as impressed as me, maybe if she built pink planes (any suggestions!). Anyway, my entry will be a mini group build in itself, I would like to do three DML demonstration team ki
  23. dude, looks awesome! I like the angled stabs! The pilots came out a treat too. might have to give one a go in 144. Tim
  24. Cheers mate, its actually a spray. It covers quite nicely and doesn't go all yellow after time, strewth! ha ha. happy easter dude, thanks for the kind comments. Tim
