  1. Or you could use a stand under the rear keel step. I saw this used on the 1:1 birds at Greenwood in the mid-1950s. Can be seen on the web site http://www.barneysairforce.com
  2. Bring back the Avro Arrow!!!!! Need to lighten this up. Sorry guys but I could not help myself Barney
  3. How big/small do you need???? I have a large supply of RCAF stuff Looking at the "bible" for RCAF markings, you need the logo in 1/8" Red with Drop Shadow, which I have and RESCUE in 1/2" which I also have and you are welcome to them. Just drop me your snail mail address ]Barney
  4. If you want to print your own decals, check our simmerspaintshop.com for free font downloads. Barney
  5. Here is a pic from 1955 at Greenwood, NS copied from a slide. A/C 11033 flew Prince Philip around the Arctic in 1953. 103 Sqn S&R Barney
  6. Try Model Master Guards Red. It works for me. Barney
  7. Ton: When I built the beast a few years ago, I had no idea of zapping George. Barney
  8. The model is the old Hasegawa 1:32 kit modified to Sabre 6 standards. Col George Miller retired again as Airport Manager of Langley, BC and I finally got him...by presenting the big bird to him in front of a lot of people. It certainly felt good to see him tear up with emotion. I've known George for over 40 years. And BTW the paint is the original Sheffield Luxor Pale Gold. The pigment was "liberated" in 1962 and I still have some in captivity. Barney
  9. It WORKS here but not elsewhere...LSP. Gremlins in the fingers..in the ________ Oh well Barney
  10. If you have a camera with a few extra selections on the menu, try setting it for Aperture Priority which will give a better depth of focus. Barney
  11. Mark: If you need storage space, I have room in my hangar for it when finished! :D Barney
  12. Mother Nature can be a...........! Last May I renewed my Pilot's Licence, went flying and on return to the hangar, I could not get out of the cockpit. Arthritis in both hands so severe that I could not lift a thing..and I'm still fighting the effects of the poisonous medications. My wee Stearman has been sitting on my desk ever since and the way things are going, it could be a very long time before it gets moved. On the bright side, I've had over 70 years of modelling and 62 years flying (concurrently) and I've had a good life . A good bottle of Crown Royal helps. Barney
  13. Joel: Forget the hardware store variety. Get a UMM ultrafine modelling saw for very fine accurate cuts.. Check out my Tracker butchery using Dymo Tape and the UMM saw. It is one of the best tools for this type of work Barney http://www.barneysairforce.com
  14. It has been an interesting year for me Renewing my pilots licence, then coming down with a very nasty arthritis in the hands so no flying; then a beastly seven months of reaction to prescription poison. No modelling, no flying and no fun but hopefully he new year will bring a change for the better And ye with all of this it cold have been a lot worse. I've met a lot of great guys on this and other modelling sites and on occasion have met them face-to-face. To all of my extended family, to Steve and his family in particular, I want to wish everyone a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
  15. Mark: Many years ago I built the 1:48 scale Herc with electrical set up. It is on my website and possibly might give you some ideas. Keep in mind that this was first attempt at doing the electrical design and construction. Barney http://www.barneysairforce.com
  16. Very nice build Mike. Those decals could be a challenge..I built one many years ago for a 441 Sqn pilot Barney
  17. I've built a lot of full resin kits and it is no more trouble than an injected plastic kit. I use 5 Minute Epoxy for structural pieces and CA for non-structural. Excess epoxy is cleaned up with Q-tips and denatured alcohol. Sanding is done "wet" and washed away so no dust. If I ever get the use of my hands back again I'd buy a Big Cluck in a heart beat..and I'm retired! Barney
  18. In those days they were referred to as T-33 Silver Stars Barney
  19. Looks pretty nice to me Barney
  20. During my very early days at Centralia and Portage, there were hundreds of Harvards on the flight line and it was interesting to note the differences in the "Trainer Yellow". The exact shade was no doubt specified but as time marched on and new batches of paint was ordered, things changed and the "lowest bidder syndrome" appeared to read the specs differently. I too would go with Humbrol #24 "Trainer Yellow" but if you cannot find it at the LHS, well who is going to say that you are wrong if you use another product! Barney..Old enough to remember all kinds of nonsense
  21. God speed "Uncle" Rick. May you always see blue skies and the wind at your back Barney
  22. I have my Stearman nearly completed in the BCATP scheme. There were 301 Stearman PT-17s brought into the plan but after one winter in the frigid Canadian prairies, they were all returned to the USA. as unsuitable for winter operations. Open cockpit and no engine heat muff=bloody uncomfortable flying. I'll post pics when I'm finished. And I agree that it is a beautifully detailed kit. Barney
