  1. There are no special tricks to building this kit and very little filler was needed. There is no throttle quadrant but it is a simple panel in the centre of the instrument panel...with prop control at the top, throttle in the middle and mixture at the bottom. All three can be replicated by simple wire plungers with a drop of glue on the end to represent the knob. Paint them Red, Black, Blue (t-B)

  2. Here is the Roden D17S Staggerwing which replicates the 1:1 scale aircraft undergoing restoration at Langley, BC. The real thing carries my Grandfather's initials in the civil registration.

  3. I've had the same call about a month ago and the old warning flag went up immediately. I kept the scammer going for about 10 minutes because I was bored and needed some fun.

The other scam going around a while ago was "I can reduce your mortgage". I had the bugger going and even got him to admit that a kickback would help. About 2 weeks later, same scam, different creep and I got him to admit kickback as well before I screwed him around.

  4. Go with a combination of LEDs and fibre optics. No heat buildup, low power drain. Use a pencil soldering iron. I've done 3 models with this combination, two of which I scratch-built the entire lighting systems and the third was done by Dynamic Models . Link below for the Grumman Alley Cat and the C-130 Hercules. The C-47 has not been posted yet.

  5. I'm looking for the Academy 1/48 scale decal sheet for Spitfire Mk XIV with the markings for CF-GMZ, Race 80. This was the first foreign aircraft allowed to race in the 1948 and 1949 Cleveland Air Races.

Of note, the aircraft is now registered as C-GSPT and under restoration in Vancouver, BC. It was also the only Spitfire to operate on skis. but only once.

  6. We saw the 3D version Thursday evening. Very good movie! And for the collectors out there; Hallmark Cards is releasing tiny Christmas tree ornaments of all of the characters starting with Dusty..and they are very nicely done

  7. I've been given an old Williams Bros Sparrowhawk kit and would like to dress up the cockpit a bit as the kit details are quite sparse. Can anyone post photos of the cockpit?..And yes I;ve done the Google thing without luck

  8. Thanks guys. The kit is the old M&B 1:100 scale out of Montreal. I still have a DC-9 Air Canada, B737 PWA and a Nordair 737. The decals are over 30 years old and are still great to work with.

  9. In 1981 I was helping my then brother-in-law, with west coast sales of a 1:100 scale series of airliners in vartious Canadian liveries..including the Orange Boeing 737. It was a good idea but other things got in the way.

Last year a gentleman that I had met at Boundary Bay helped me with the finish of the 1:32 scale Tamiya Mustang and in repayment for his help, I am working on this model, an aircraft that he had flown and with 23000 hrs on type, he loved the aircraft.

I still have to add the landing gear in the next few days

  10. I was a tower/terminal controller at Moose Jaw from 1970 to '76 and enjoyed the "show" almost every day that the Snowbirds were at home. I also got to fly the Tutor for about 80 hours and it was a sweet little bird to handle.

For the first year of the Snowbirds existance, they were not allowed to do formation aerbatics so instead of a loop they did an "oblique" turn..roll in 16* of bank..stop the turn then pull up and around. They passed their show demonstration for the Air Command brass and were then allowed the show that you see today. Of course the show changes from time to time but it is a great show.
