  1. Pic ##: The underside still needs a bit of work...I did open the radiator door as well as all those D!@#$%^ shell chutes.
  2. Pic #2: I still have lots of detail work to do here inlcuding painting the engine front and prop governor...there will be no spinner on this aircraft
  3. Between working on the "Alley Cat" and the Hurricane, I've managed a few more bits of progress on both. The Hurricane, painted and decalled and Oh S#$%...the masking tape pulled away a small piece of the cockpit forward edge...and it has disappeared. This 12 gun aircraft was a "presentation" aircraft flown on home defence against Fire Balloons, by 133 Sqn RCAF and was based at Boundary Bay, BC. Can't see the serial Numbers...there weren't any shown because the RCAF ordered all serials over-sprayed for secrecy.
  4. I had the same problem with the fuselage/trailling edge seam and finally gave up on it. The seam should have been sightly forward as there was a definitive joint between the fabric covered areas and the bottom of the wing. Barney
  5. Nice looking Hurricane! I've decalled mine and will finish it tonight. Too bad Hasegawa did not mould seperate windshield and canopy as I'm having to use the vac-form hood as well. Barney
  6. Erwin: I have gone through my collection of decals and can provide you with roundels 26 MM diameter and a few smaller roundels as well as Canadian flags 24 mm X 12 mm. Will these work for you????/ They are the biggest Canadian marking in the spares box. Barney
  7. Pic #3 shows the nice tight edge without the usual ridge line due to paint build-up. Hopefully you can see the re-scribed gun bay panels on the right wing. For this I used the dental pick sharpened on an oil stone and Dymo tape as a guide. The next set is of course applying the gloss coat with Polly Scale Clear Gloss.
  8. Because of the Pineapple Express hitting the We(s)t Coast this past week it has been almost impossible to work in an open door hangar...so on with the Hurricane painting...Barney Style. Using the thread edge method, I completed masking this morning and then sprayed with Polly Scale Darg Green. The paint was force dried with a small hair dryer and finished in about 15 minutes.
  9. What size do you need? I might be able to spare a pair Barney
  10. Paul...there are no dull questions...only dull answers. Yes the thread raises the edge of the tape very slightly and this gives a very seamless transition between colours. I normally spray at about 12-15 psi for a sharp edge or 20-25 psi for a soft edge. The higher the pressure, the more under spray. I'll have the Hurricane masked and painted in a day or so with more pics. I'm busy removing the engine from the "Alley Cat" for a major overhaul and it is my number one priority for the next week. Barney
  11. Yes I am . It is a perfect fit into the nose and the prop hub is cast with holes deep enough that you do not need a jig to align the prop blades. Barney
  12. Pic #3 Shows the wings masked. I'll mask the fuselage and tailplane next before spraying with Dark Green Polly Scale. The Dark Earth was applied with a flat brush...too darned cold to spray in the garage. I added 10 drops ofLiquitex Acrylic Flow Aid to a bottle of Polly Scale and then thinned it with PS Airbrush Thinners.
  13. Pic #2 shows the tape with the thread placed on the tacky side...approximately 1/16" to 1/8" from the edge.
  14. I've now started masking the model for a seam-free camoflage pattern using painters' tape and thread. In pic #1, I've placed a piece of tape on the wing and roughly drawn in the first pattern.
  15. Signals: I'll post some pics of my Hurricane MkXIIB , work in progress, along with how to make easy masks. It is fairly simple and requires a bit of patience but it works every time. I'll have the pics later today Barney
  16. I'm using Polly Scale and brush painting is a dream...I add about 10-12 drops of Liquitex Acrylic Flow Enhancer to a fresh bottle plus a bit of PS thinners, give it a good shake and brush away...NO brush marks and beautiful even coverage. I use a 1/2" soft flat brush. Barney
  17. Frank...go with the Nikon 8700 or 8800...the best lenses on the market. Barney
  18. I was going to replace my Nikon 990 with the 5700 until the 8700 came out. I bought the 8700 and 6 months later, Nikon released the 8800 which is even better than mine. The 8800 has 10X optical zoom, the same macro as the 5700 and vibration stabilization...perfect for model/airshow type pics...like every type of photo...and 8 megapixels too.... Barney ain't gonna try keeping up with techojunk no more eh!
  19. The prop is particularly nice...detail is perfect and the holes for the blades are deep enough and accurate enough that no jig is required to get a perfect alignment. What more could you ask for Barney
  20. The Hurricane is now ready for the paint booth...if it ever warms up out here in Lotus Land. The fit has been very good and the Ultracast goodies popped right into place. I've filled in the shell ejector ports, added new .303 machinegun ports and rescribed the topside of the wing.
  21. Thanks for the comments guys...that kit is very well detailed but I just had to add the resin to change the Mk and do something different. Barney
  22. A few photos of the next project now underway. The Hasegawa 1/48 Hurricane MkIIC has been modified to show as a Canadian MkXIIB used at Boundary Bay, BC by 133 Sqn RCAF. The shell ejector chutes have been filled in with .040" plastic card, the spare wing leading edge section drilled out for 4 .303 machine guns and the additional 2 guns added outboard of the landing lights. New ejector chutes have yet to be opened up. Some panel lines have been filled in and others scribed in place. Kevin sent out his new Prop and engine face as well as the new seat and armour plate. I've also added exhau
