  1. That's good stuff, gotta love aircrew humor. I'm going to see how difficult it will be to yank the seats out and redo them since it is a feature unique to the RAAF birds (probably the first thing an RAAF airman would look for upon inspection of the model). Thanks Ron
  2. Thanks Mark, did the seats have the sheepskin covers when they wore the SEA camo? Ron
  3. Finally I have made enough progress to post some pics. Since I am donating the built aircraft for a display on the base here, I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time counting wires in the wheel wells (I have about 8 more different types to build behind this one to complete the display and time is ticking). Anyways, this will be built out of the box, I may add a couple smart bombs just to give it a purpose (have to check and see what the typical loadout was for this era scheme). I will post pics at the end of each week to show progress. By the way, I wish I had the time and skill of some of the folks in this build, awesome work! Here is my RADAR and avionics simulation. First weeks goal complete.
  4. Well, figured I would throw a pic in the lot of a B-1B waiting for it's load of love to deliver to the Taliban.
  5. This is what I'm doing about the CFM-56's for my RC-135, I bought the Heller AWACS kit which includes both engine types (one for the U.S. version, and the other for the export version). I bought the Flightpath JSTARS conversion kit for the AWACS airframe, the older engines in the RC-135 kit are the correct engines for the JSTARS...waste not.
  6. I forgot to add that the Bones here are now flying with the Sniper pod mounted underneath the fuselage.
  7. Steven, this is what I've observed watching the Bones fly combat missions every day for the last two years, the flaps are not extended when parked unless they're having some sort of maintenance performed on them (I've seen the spoilers in the up position much more than I've seen the flaps deployed while parked). They lower the flaps a little for takeoff when they do engine startup prior to taxiing, then most of the way down for landing (and still come in like a missile). Ron
  8. Hello all, going to build this to display for the Australian AF folks who are working with us in the great sandbox to fight terrorism. I am working on a project to build an aircraft for each nations air force that is working here at base X. This will be displayed in a case with others from about 5 feet away at the main entrance to the base dining facility, so I'm really not too worried about the proper gauge on the fire extinguisher bottle in the cockpit. I'm hoping that this build with all you kind folks will keep me motivated to get this finished before the deadline. Today I cracked the seal on the box and comenced assembling all the simple sub assemblies (stabs, tail fin, basic cockpit assemblies, etc), my goal is to have the nose section completed by the end of this weekend (baby steps). "Let's roll" Aircraft model - F-111C Scale - 1/48 Manufacturer - Academy No mods at this point...gonna build it OOB Australian Air Force markings provided in kit
  9. Sprue Bros is always my first choice for mail order, I work in the Middle East at an "unknown base" and they still get my order to me in 6 days. They should get a medal for their effort on the war on terrorism keeping us modelers happy at deployed locations.
  10. Here's a test post to see if I can get a pic to show up.
  11. I am building them in 1/48 scale, already have the Zots Roundels of the world series that includes the roundels for Qatar. The colors seem to match a little better with the Zots but the size is a little small for the scale. I will probably make my own using Corel Draw, already have decal paper. I will check out one of the image sharing sites and see if I can get some pics posted.
  12. I'm in Doha now, you can get the basic Revell/Germany kits in the Giant Store at Hyatt Plaza, but your on your own when it comes to model glue, paint, etc. They do sell super glue though. I order all my stuff from the states via APO (Military Postal) since I work here as a contractor for the USAF.
  13. Benner, great job on the F-1, I'm also working on a QEAF aircraft. I'm building a Hawker Hunter, problem is I cannot find any decal sets that include the black flag emblem on the tail, guess I'll have to fabricate that from scratch. I'm a glutton for punishment, I also have a Mirage F-1, Alpha Jet, and a Mirage 2000 to complete in the QEAF sceme. I work on a Qatari Air Force base, building the Hunter for one of their officers. I was getting bored with this project, but seeing your completed Mirage has given the project a second wind, thanks. I would upload a pic in progress but apparently there is an admin issue or something.
