  1. The first releases of the 9-12 late actually had the 9-13 fuselage, which is a much bigger deal than the size of some rarely-carried wing tanks.
  2. Looking at the photos in AirDOC's history of JG 71, it looks like the colors were RAL 6014 Gelboliv and RAL 7012 Basaltgrau over RAL 9006 Weissaluminum (Norm '62 camo). Testor's Model Master now makes RAL 6014 as a new addition to their existing line. RLM 75 is real close match for RAL 7012, and any flat aluminum paint with fine pigment will work for RAL 9006. Hope that helps.
  3. Thanks, Erik. That's exactly the kind of explanation I was looking for.
  4. I'm building the classic Monogram F-106 Delta Dart and as most of you know, the RAT is molded in the extended position. I've looked pretty extensively at several references and have seen a mix of RATs extended and retracted while on the ground. I plan on modifying the kit to depict it closed, but I'm curious if anyone out there knows how exactly it was deployed. The mix of extended and retracted RATs leads me to believe that it automatically deployed any time hydraulic pressure bled off, which would be a desirable feature in an emergency and would explain why they are seen in different posi
  5. Those intakes cleaned up nicely! From what I've seen you do so far, there doesn't appear to be anything a little dry-fitting and adjusting won't fix. My kit is on its way, so I'm glad you're blazing this trail. Keep up the good work.
  6. I'm looking for a CA Meteor NF.11/13. I will pay via paypal or money order, whichever the seller prefers. Thanks! Vince
  7. Hi all, I'm looking for a 1/48 LTD IAR 80 to either buy or trade. I have over 500 1/48 kits from all eras if you are interested in a trade. Thanks. -Vince Noel
  8. That is one fantastic build! The Zinc Chromate peeking through on the wing leading edges and the dust on the wheels and wing walk look absolutely first-rate.
  9. I know for a fact the Deuces in Alaska used the international orange, but those in Iceland with the 57th used a color that spans the gamet from Insignia Red to full on international orange depending on the pictures you look at. It is certainly more in the realm of "flourescent red" than orange, but I say pick the color that looks the best to you and let haters sip on their Haterade all day long while you actually finish a kit. Thus spaketh a pilot.
  10. I am truly amazed at your aptitude for working with foil. Incredible, simply incredible. -Vince
  11. I'm Looking to buy or trade for a 1/48 Fonderie Miniatures PV-1 Ventura. I have over 700 1/48 scale kits (none of which is a Ventura) of all eras if you'd like a trade. I can pay via Paypal or money order. -Vince
  12. Yep, that took care of it - I beleive this qualifies me for the Clown-*** award on numerous levels.
  13. Hi all, I've had an older model Badger 180 air compressor for about a year now, sans regulator, one without the on/off switch. The automatic cutoff feature has not worked particularly well, but that in itself has not been a huge problem. I've just purchased a regulator, Badger model 50054, but I can't seem to get the pressure to go below 20psi. Everytime I close the regulator valve enough to make the pressure drop to 15 or so, it seems to close all the way as soon as I start to spray - resulting in a pressure spike to around 40psi, and no air whatsoever coming out of the airbrush. Is ther
  14. Hello everyone, I am currently working on Zvezda's 1/48 La-5FN, and I'm up to speed on Wood Use Aerolak and Metal Use Primer, etc. My question concerns the actual materials used in the cockpit section of the La-5FN. The metal plate running down from the cowling area to the aft wing root is obvious, but is the interior of the cockpit, to include the structural members therein wood or metal? Thanks. -Vince
  15. I use a very thin "sludge" wash, using Pollyscale Grimy Black as the base (it's really more of the dark grey, as I've found straight black to be too stark). I just eyeball the ratios roughly 10-20% paint with the rest water. I also add a few drops of dish soap, which helps the wash flow and prevents it from sticking. It can be easily removed from glossy surfaces with a wet q-tip or cloth, but I typically apply it to interiors with a small brush, which has worked very well for me. I've never used Tamiya paint in a wash, but their "Smoke" color straight from the bottle is great for making en
