  1. Tory - thanks for the advice and input. Anyone any idea of the correct colour for the undercarriage wells ? Thanks Niall
  2. If you don't want to do silver, Niall, how about all-over light grey??? Ah - now that's more like it ! Grey I can handle - the NMF is a nightmare ! Many thanks for the pics - they look great ! Niall
  3. So - reading into this - best to paint the panels grey first and then mask them before doing the overall natural metal ? Whatever silver / metal finish you choose it is usually terrible if not impossible to paint over in my experience. Niall
  4. Thanks everyone - especially Ken - wish I could get my models looking that good ! Talk about setting the Bench Mark !! I do use car sprays for priming - especially my 6mm wargaming stuff which is metal. Hadn't thought about using it on plastic before - I'll give it a go. Looks like I can combine a trip to Halfords for bicycle parts with this ! Hadn't given B&Q any thought before either - think I'll check their paints out as suggested - thanks Thom. I have some White Ensign Colourcoats "Cockpit Interior Turquoise" - I'll that a go with the cockpit. Cheers Niall
  5. Hi - new member here and I've searched the site on this subject and pretty much know what the likely answer is going to be - but here goes; I have the Trumper 1:144 kit of the TU-95MS "Bear H" among my stash of (many) unmade models. Frankly I'm put off starting it by the colour scheme - natural metal. Nothing makes my heart sink faster than a NMF - but if I'm right this is the only scheme for this particular variant ? Anyone got any advice - I've heard of the exotic stuff like Alclad and products like that - but was wondering what people might suggest for a modeller of VERY modest abilitie
  6. Ken Many thanks for those photo's - very helpful. Niall
  7. Hi I'm trying to get through my pile of unmade models - thinking of starting a Minicraft 1/144 scale Backfire B I picked up a while back. Has anyone got any tips on this particular kit and maybe the correct cockpit colours ? I'm likely to build it straight out of the box unless anyone can advise me to make fairly modest improvements. A link to any interior shots would be nice if anyone has one. Thanks Niall
  8. Thanks for the reply. I think the short answer to that is greed ! No - I put a low bid in for it as I like Soviet / Russian aircraft but prefer 1/144 scale for space reasons as much as anything. I was surprised by the fact it appeared to be a VEB Kit which I thought were hard to get - and VERY expensive. To be honest I would prefer to make it as a military version - if I can find some decals. I suppose it does give me hope that some of the other VEB Kits will turn up at reasonable prices - I think they did a Mil MI-6. Niall
  9. Hi - I'm new to the site but picked up a 1/100th scale model on EBay - made by "Nu-Bee" models. It's a 1/100 Antonov AN-24. On opening the box I discovered a sticker on the bottom of the outer box and a label inside that suggests this kit was made by VEB Plasticart - an East German company. Now - from what I've seen on various sites these are fairly rare kits and seem to fetch good prices on EBay etc. As I only paid around £10 (US$20) including postage I think I may have a bargain here. Could anyone confirm it's a VEB kit and comment on it's value ? Thanks Niall
