Seems odd to switch during the season, I would expect them to learn a new routine over the winter, and debut the new aircraft in 2018. Those planes already look huge, its going to be awkward seeing the diamond together.
-
Sad video indeed. Interesting how the diamond comes overhead right after the crash, that must have been a horrible sight. It would seem he had enough kinetic energy to overcome an engine failure to at least pull out level (how often does dual engine failure happen on a hornet anyway?). So possibly a flight control problem? That would be very troubling after last year's incidents. I hope they're able to get back in the air by July for Pensacola, the flight teams and air shows have had too many troubles over the last four years.

"Fat Albert" temporarily "Blue Angel 6"...
Camus272 replied to 82Whitey51's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure they will he back this season, but just how soon is the question. As mentioned, they recovered in 2007. I'm a little surprised that the Thunderbirds are still grounded this coming weekend. If both aren't back by July them my summer plans are really going to be open. -
You don't think that can be buffed out? I'm glad the crew got out safe. I wonder if there are any B-52's left at AMARG that are capable of being refurbished and returned to duty?
-
U2 wasn't a reference to the plane though, more likely the Irish unemployment form. The B-52s indirectly, through the hairstyle. Not directly mentioning aircraft, but Prince's "Live 4 Love"concerns a pilot on a combat mission to drop bombs. Pink Floyd's "Gunner's Return" is about a bombing flight into Germany, " over Dresden at angels one-five".

I don't like it much as Win7, but it's a vast improvement over Windows 8, which was pretty much unusable.
-
Did we not learn anything from the F-35? Now every aircraft will have some random number? My first thought was that it looks like the Texas photos, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a flying prototype.
-
I've seen a few shows in the last five years with a 3 ship diamond from both the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. I also saw one BA practice with one diamond and one solo out for maintenance. As mentioned, it can be the pilots - if they are sick there is no one to replace them.

F-26's flown over DMZ last month?
Camus272 replied to Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy's topic in General Discussion
Great, now the F-25 isn't even good enough anymore. I'm not buying that Stavatti is real aircraft manufacturer. Their F-26 page has been around since at least 2004. If we did have F-26s, we wouldn't unveil them like this (not even publicly promoted enough to be news worthy), we could just send those old, worn-out F-22s without worrying about what happens to them. I'm not saying we don't have something out there, maybe a YF-24, but nothing operational enough to be used in a brinkmanship stunt. -
Very cool! I like seeing a lot of the conceptual F-16s being built lately. This one is way down my list if I ever get through all of the operational ones. What brand of gray did you use? It looks "right" to me, as I usually have Gull Gray come out wrong.

I seem to recall that they were folded mechanically, but if it was manual that wouldn't matter from a modeling perspective. Brian

Its almost impossible to get the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels at the same show. It requires DOD approval, and I've only heard of it occurring 2 or 3 times, in the current budget situation it's not going to happen. As others have said - Aviation Nation. Its scaled back a bit from 5 years ago, but its still amazing, you won't even be able to see everything in two days (and I say this as someone who is only interested in military aircraft).

After the non-airshow season of 2013, there were no flyovers or static displays allowed. The 2 single ship demos (only F-22 and F-16 survive)are not allowed to fly the same shows as the T-birds. This year there was only 2 static displays per airshow allowed, next year will be 4 plus flyovers are back. The F-18 demo will not be at the same shows as the Blue Angels, so that means there will be no more than 2 active military demonstrations per show. I miss the good old days up to 2011 when there were shows with the Blue Angels & F-18/ F-16/ A-10 demos, but with the F-15 & A-10 teams gone

Model Master Camouflage Grey Enamel Discontinued
Camus272 replied to Drifterdon's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I remember building an SEA F-4 back in the 80s using the Testor's mix - it was 10 parts white and one part battle gray. I think the result was better than out of the bottle camo gray. -
I still have most of these sitting on my desk in front of me. I never even got them to fully work under Windows XP, but I still have two Windows 98 machines in my office. That really seemed to be the best gaming OS - the late 90s were the high point of flights sims. I've noticed some flight sims showing up on Steam, so I may re-buy them to play on a modern PC. Any day now, I'll get back to playing these (if I can finish a model first).

Nausea from reading something
Camus272 replied to Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy's topic in General Discussion
From fiction - no. I actually thought The Human Centipede was hilariously stupid. However, reading about Unit 731 in WWII, as well as some high profile rape/murder news stories has made me physically uncomfortable. -
Model Master Camouflage Grey Enamel Discontinued
Camus272 replied to Drifterdon's topic in General Discussion
The latest list I got from Testors still shows Insignia White still in production, but a number of colors are spray-only now: Camouflage Gray, Aggressor Gray, SAC Bomber Tan, SAC bomber Green, and Gloss Gull Gray. At least they still make the paint. A number of these other colors are also still in spray and were never in bottles, like Light Earth, Afrika Mustard, Modern Desert Sand, and Panzer Gray. So, I believe only 5 colors have been cut from the MMI line (not counting gloss or flat alternatives). They have dropped a number of colors from the MMII International line, but I'm not surprise -
1/48 Learjet C-21A Air National Guard Limited Edition
Camus272 replied to Anton_K55RUS's topic in Jet Modeling
They got rid of the F-16s in 2007. I was in one of their C-21s a few years, its unbelievable how small that plane is - the cockpit makes my car seem quite luxurious. Unfortunately they didn't have one on display at this year's airshow. -

Can anyone ID this flyover we had today in Eastern Iowa?
Camus272 replied to toadwbg's topic in General Discussion
The LaCrosse airshow is cancelled this year. I would guess F-16s though, possibly MN ANG headed to Duluth. -
Even then it can be tough. I've seen F-16s painted in Have Glass 5 in real life, but I'm still not exactly sure which color I want to use on the model that will look the closest in scale.

Ah, the TimMee Galaxy Laser Team, I remember my friends having those.
-
Sad. Star Trek II & III were two of my favorite scores.
-
Almost the 18th and still no sign of it.
-
The two rooms I've occupied in my house, I painted white so I could see what I'm doing. But, it's not as aesthetically pleasing or relaxing as more color.
