Mine has been mostly hanging since 1987, but when I looked at it the other day three wheels are missing and the gear is in pretty bad shape. I may convert it into a wheels-up flying display. I built mine when I was 14, and I don't remember it being too difficult. I hope to do two more in the somewhat near future (I'm waiting on conventional bomb racks (that and actually finishing something!)). Brian

Splinter Hornets? There goes more money for decals!

They have just painted a second splinter F-15. The 65th jets will merge with the 64th. Brian -
It would give me an excuse to build a1/32 F-117. I haven't touched 1/32 since the 80s. I would really like to do a 1/6 F-16 though, but probably not in the budget. Brian

I've had some, and I think they make great pets. I used to have a pair - Maverick and Goose. I recommend a glass cage and not wire, that helps prevent them from getting out. Otherwise, I think care is pretty easy. Brian

Well, at least the 60 Minutes report was better than the Nightline one, I already sent a letter to ABC about a number of misrepresented facts. Hopefully this publicity will kick the Air Force into actually doing something about the problem, although I still Lockheed is getting off way too easy on this one. Brian

Yes, I have a number of pictures of American Vipers carry AIM-9s (or AIM-120s) on the middle station for a 6 A-A missile load. Brian

What IS the status of Air Force demos this year?
Camus272 replied to chuck540z3's topic in General Discussion
It will be just a heritage flight. The only Air Force demo for 2012 is the F-22. Brian -
Funny you should mention contrails. On Thursday afternoon I noticed them all over the sky here in MN, and that night by the full moon I could still see them all across the sky. Brian

First ,this is the exact same article that was published last year, it is nothing new and there is no basis to it. Second, the Navy hasn't even cut its two F-18 demos yet, and there are proudly promoting their public relations in contrast to what the Air Force is doing. The Blue Angels aren't going anywhere. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was the second site I would check everyday, after this one. There were countless pictures I wanted to get from there, as well as ongoing discussions and some people I need to contact. I can't believe they would just shut it down. I agree there could be a use for an airshow forum here. There are some postings on the subject, but they are sporadic and not nearly comprehensive enough. Right now, I'm hoping Fencecheck fills in the gap. Brian

It's an Alternate Universe. It is not a prequel, the original Spock sees Vulcan destroyed after the events of the Next Generation.

I spoke to a pilot from VFC-12 last summer about this. He said they use the terms adversary and aggressor interchangeably and there really wasn't a difference between services. Brian

Models based on faulty magazine or book drawings?
Camus272 replied to Rob de Bie's topic in General Discussion
The AMT F-117 which doesn't look right at all was probably based on the original blurry Air Force photo. -
If you recently found an RQ-170 could u return it?

Ex-Pentagon official: Captured spy plane seems fake The color is wrong and the wing seams are incorrect. Either this official is an ARCer or they (should) consult ARC for info. Brian -
It comes out alright if you add a different cockpit and intake and don't use the weapons. Other than that it looks ok. Brian

This was my thought as well. I buy some of the squadron shirts, mostly from Nellis, although I've never been in the military. When some idiot questions if I've ever been in that squadron I usually say have you ever played for the (whatever pro football or baseball team they are wearing). The only bad experience I had was wearing a shirt of the 65th Aggressor squadron to an airshow. I had a couple of idiots threatening to kick my teeth in for being a "commie." I wonder what would happen if they said that to a USAF pilot from the 65th.

Static displays just come from whoever is available, so I don't think the will be effected. I imagine the C-17 demo and the flyovers will be cut too. I wish they could have just cut out the East coast teams and reduce the others to the old F-22 schedule (2009) and not dedicate particular aircraft to the team. At least we would have a chance to see an A-10, F-15, or F-16. Brian
-
Wow that is painful. Only one team at 20 shows, that is sad (and that's assuming the Raptor can do it unlike this year). I thought this years cut of only one team per show was bad enough. I was really hopong to see the Strike Eagle at least. Brian

I've heard a couple of mentions that the 65th is going to be disbanded. They scrapped plans to paint six in the T-50 splinter scheme and only painted one. I would imagine the F-15 aggressors serve an important role and I would think that if the USAF can fund the 18th, they could also keep the 65th. Does anyone have any information on the situation? Brian

The question in my mind is: has anyone officially proposed removing these teams? If not, then these articles are pointless speculation. $37 million in a 1 trillion dollar defense budget is nothing. As for going back to trainers, that seems pretty uninteresting to me, I much prefer to see front-line high performance aircraft. With the high number of F-16s and F-18s around I don't think keeping the teams going is that much more expensive. Perhaps their budget could be scaled back a bit: no more media rides, no more overseas trips, and scale the season back by a few weeks. As far as air sho

Just found some shots of the new F-15 splinter scheme, and I haven't seen this posted yet. I think I really like this one! I hope they have it on display at Aviation Nation in a few weeks. photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Brian

Thanks, I've been waiting to see this for a year. Definitely different. I'll be at Nellis in a few weeks, it will be interesting to see if they have this on display. Brian
