  1. Got some Alclad Primer on it, and tested out AK's 36270 on the horizontal stabs. Unfortunately, the color is quite off, so I'll have to break into the Model Master stash for that.
  2. I'll jump in with another one. This time, a fully operation F-16C from the Minnesota ANG, from back when we had Block 25s here.
  3. Well, it was RPM that owned Testors, which they acquired in 1984, before they expanded their Model Master Line. They later acquired Rustoleum into the company as well. But nothing has changed for decades as far as ownership, they just apparently decided that Model Master wasn't worth keeping alive. I wished that they would have sold it to some other hobby-focused company, but given the change in opinion about enamel paints int he last decade or two, it maybe wasn't worth it.
  4. It seems down to only a few modeling posts per year. I suspect most users wanted to talk about the "off-topic"subjects rather than actual modeling.
  5. This is really disappointing. Considering other people have said they had the same problem, I'm reluctant to order there again. If I do, I will be prepared to dispute the charge right away.
  6. Thanks. Looks like I've got all those, it just #3 that Kinetic neglected to include 2 of, or address in the instructions. The antennas under the intakes seem to be only on the original version,( I hope) as I have now removed them. Also, on the insides of the vertical stabilizers, Kinetic has molded several plates. All the photos I see show smooth surfaces, so I've removed those.
  7. Sinking into this kit is learning a whole new routine. I may be a little too focused on F-16s, whether it’s Tamiya, Hasegawa, or Kinetic, I can pretty much put them together while half asleep. This is a whole new step by step process. Starting off, I thought Viper intakes were difficult, but the size and shape of these is something else. They didn’t turn out as well as I hoped, but next time I’ll take a bit more time to smooth out the interiors. As for fit, it was a struggle to keep them at just the right adjustment while drying. First note to self: Next time, contrary to instructions, I
  8. Hello all, As I try to get up to speed on Legacy Hornet advancements in the last 35 years while I build VFC-12 07 (164647), I'm trying to figure out all the added-on lumps and bumps. Does anyone know what the sensors are which are located under the cockpit windscreen and leading-edges, above the front gear door? Also, does anyone know if these are included in the Kinetic kit? I believe everything else is in the kit, but I don't see those. Thanks for any help. Edit: Looking at my copy of Uncovering the F-18, they appear to be extra RWRs. If not included, would they appear t
  9. OK, here's my first F-18 project in 35 years. I think I'll go with VFC-12's 3-tone scheme from around 2008.
  10. OK, calling this one done. A simple decal job, followed by a lot of fixing this-and-that. It could have been a little better, especially if I was more careful with masking (a good lesson), but I definitely like the way this one looks. I think this now one of my favorite Viper schemes. Photos are pretty rare, and I find it's place in the evolution interesting, as this was the first variation of the original F-16N aggressor scheme, but is somewhat similar to the current USAF splinter scheme. Now, I'm hoping to clean some stuff of the bench by tomorrow so I can look at the F-18 build, and anoth
  11. It looks like he last signed in on March 13th. I do hope the hosting remains intact long enough for us to figure out some ways of distributing administration.
  12. You're right about 35237. When I first sprayed in on my N, over 36495, it looked green more than gray, but then when I added the blue 35109 to the scheme, it turned into dark gray. Lots of strange effect going on with that one.
  13. Well, the honest straight answer is that it is a copyright violation. Some of us might copy a particular marking or two, but a whole sheet? (especially asking someone else to copy their own sheet does seem a little over the line). Other than the tail art, I'm sure you piece the rest of the markings from other sheets. But, I'm not sure how well that tail art would turn out from an ink jet printer anyway. I would think your best plan would be to make a post in the buy/sell forum, or the decal swap group on Facebook. I'm sure there's somebody who just used the other option, and has it remaining
  14. So, after my compressor decided to give up and I had to run to Home Depot... Touch-ups are almost done. Some things that I had painted with Hataka and AK pulled up under the masking and had to be completely redone. So, now it's time to move on the final assembly stage.
  15. Yes, those are all in the Hataka set (FS numbers are listed on the back) , as well as all the other companies mentioned.
  16. I'm in. I haven't built an F-18 since 1987, although I've had one on the top of my list for twenty years. It will give me motivation to try out one of these Kinetic kits.
  17. Got some color on it - all Model Master. This is the first kit I've actually worked on in 18 months and I'm realizing how out of practice I am. A lot of touch-up is needed to get it where I want it. But, I'm hopeful that I can permanently relearn from my mistakes here, and maybe work out a whole line of F-16Ns for this build.
  18. A coat of primer done. My first attempt at using Mr Surfacer, I probably should have tested it on something else. I don't normally use much primer, but I'm trying to make my Model Master stash last, some I'm looking at ways to conserve paint.
  19. I'm in with another attempt (third try has to be the one to be finished). So, I'll keep it simple : Hasegawa F-16N in the Sukhoi blue scheme.
  20. I built Weapons Set C back in 1987. I still haven't used most of them, so not anymore, no.
  21. Now that the Air Force has received their first F-15EX, it looks like we will have several more decades of Eagles in action. The F-16 fleet is planned to be in service until the late 2040s , and now the Air Force is considering more, as new build block 70s, so that too will be around quite a while. Seeing the Blue Angles this year will be shock, as I'm still getting over the idea that all F-18 Hornets (legacy) are now retiring, but I think we still have a lot more history with fourth generation aircraft (and I hope the Thunderbirds keep their F-16s for as many years as possible.)
  22. For the wingtip pylons, 36270 is probably correct, although in 2001 I suppose its possible they were still 36375. Since the 414th weren't doing the standard repaints I'm not completely sure. For the ALQ-188, 36118 looks right to me and is what I use.
  23. I believe the color is 35109. Model Master HAD a spot-on one. It's also available from Hataka, AK, and Mr Paint. As for x5102, Mr Paint has 15102, and Model Master, again, used to have it.
  24. As Jens stated there have been three versions (you're looking at the second version). To concur with everything he said as I go through all my photos, I would say this: The second Flanker scheme seems to have always been dark gray markings (they often have black outlines). I don't see any walkway lines on versions 1 or 2. When the third (current) version was introduced in 2002, it seems they went to all black markings. Some walkway lines appear to show up between 2005 and 2007, and by 2011 it seems to be standard squadron wide (at least for the Flanker). So, yeah, I would say Bull
