Thanks for the info guy. I'll be honest.. I havent done much research yet on VF-11, so I realy don't know all the fine details (such as the ones you pointed out). I just picked up the Has kit and was looking in to what other squadrons I could depict the jet as being from. The VF-11 decal sheet seemed interesting, so I thought I would start with that and research from there. Thanks again for the info!

I just picked up a new Has F-14B kit. I am looking for a couple particular aftermarket decal sheet for it, but can't seem to find many choices out there. The one I would realy like is the Two Bobs sheet# 48097 Last of the Tomcats 2. It is of VF-11 The Red Rippers. I have looked through Fightertown Decals and like some of their choices, but would realy like the Two Bobs set. I see on their web page that set is discontinued. Is there any other place I could get that decal set, maybe purchesed through another store?

Yeah, honestly all I opened was the plastic that the book came in. I didn't even look at anything else. The decals are correct. After I read your post I flipped the decal sheet over and did find an addendum with the proper locating instructions. I'm still a little "wet behind the ears" with the higher quality model kits. I just finished my first Has kit a few weeks ago and was very impressed with all the different flap position options and the detail. It was an F/A-18C that I converted in to the 2006 Blue Angel #6 jet ( I know it is realy an F/A-18A). Anyway it realy turned out nice and I'll f

I just picked up the Has F14B kit #09677. It is the "VF-103 Jolly Rogers Last Flight" kit. When I got home I opened the box and took out the instruction book and noticed that the cover said it was for the F-14A Plus Tomcat. Also in the decal locating portion of the book there are no instructions on locatting the VF-103 decal sheet included with the kit. The book does show locations for three other squadrons not on the decal sheet in the kit, VF-211, VF-74, and VF143. It looks like I got the wrong book from the factory. Do you think the parts and the assembly instructions will be correct? How

Thanks for the photo posting info. I'll try to get a pic or two of his jet up by tonight (EST).

Hey everyone, I have recently completed my Has F/A-18C Blue Angel #6 project and am now ready to start on another F/A-18C project. One of my good friends recently completed flight school in Miramar. He is now based in Japan with VMFA(AW)-242. I have a bunch of pics he sent me from his days in VMFAT-101. I would like to build a 1/48 Has F/A-18C replica of the jet he flew while in fighter school in Miramar. I have looked through a few of the sponsor sites here and seem to be coming up empty handed. Does anyone know of an aftermarket decal sheet made for VMFAT-101. I saw two different sheets, bu

I am still prety new to the forums here. I have been reading up on how other people customize certain model kits. I have read of some people using aftermarket resin cockpits. 1.What is the purpose? Do they give a more accurate depiction of an actual 1:1 cockpit? 2. Could anyone recomend a manufacturer that makes quality 1:48 scale F/A-18D cockpits, specificaly for the Has. VMFA(AW)-242 model kit. Thanks.

Yeah I wish I had a spare canopy that is the easiest way that I have found. I have an older Revell F/A-18F Super Hornet. It was one of the first models I put together. I had it hanging over my 3 year old sons bed and he managed to pull it down and snap off the landing gear and a few pylons. Maybe I could get the canopy off that and make it work. If not I will have to give the wet tissue a try. thanks for the advice.

I am still getting ready to paint the body of my F/A-18C I have a few last things to mask off. What is the best way to mask off the open cockpit. I havent painted the canopy yet and the plane is almost fully assembled, so I have already inserted and glued down the seat and IP. Thanks.

I'm getting ready to begin painting the underside of my Has. F/A-18C. What is the best way to mask off the landing gear wells. I have noticed on some other threads that some people stuff "stuff" in the wells. It appears to be clay or silly putty or something.

What is the best way to apply the future? With an air brush or just use a paint brush?

Man, That looks great. Thanks for the pic. Not only is is a good visual of what to expect on the landing gear it will help me with painting the canopy. The lines from the factory in the canopy are not very distinct.

That makes sense about the pannel lines getting filled in. However I just finished a Tamia Block 50 F-16 and did not use anything over the paint before I applied the wash and I could not remove the wash. The paint had dried for over a week. On the outer gray surfaces I realy couldn't notice a difference. The whites parts were where I had problems. I just wanted the pannel lines filled in, but I couldnt get the dark wash off. So then it looked like two different colors of white. I had to coat the whole part in the wash, not just the areas of the pannel lines so that the color would be uniform.

I'm getting ready to apply a coat of Pro Modeller Weathering Wash to the landing gear of a Has F/A-18C. I have the gear compleatly painted, but no clear coat yet. I used Model Master Enamel based paint. I see on the Pro Modeller web page it says the you should coat the part with a clear gloss first. Then after the clear coat is dry, apply the wash. My question is should I the Model Master gloss clear coat or would a coat of Future be ok? When I go to wipe off the excess wash I'm not sure how the Future will react with the damp rag since it is acrylic based. Thanks.
