  1. The wings are fixed. I sprayed Mr Surfacer 100 to check for any flaws that were overlooked. It's quite difficult to check with all the damages on the surface without a uniformed primer coat on first. I did have to go back and re-scribe a few panel lines. But overall, it's good to go. I'll set it aside for now. Since the original model had the flaps down, I'll just continue as is. I'll leave them off til later to avoid accidents. That's all for now. Thanks for checking out.
  2. The static wicks are added in. It's probably easier to add them in at this time than later on. They are made from fishing lines, 0.015 inch. I heat each over a candle to get them to bend. Just one quick pass over a flame is all needed to get a curl. I cut a slot about the same thickness along the wing top for each of the line to nest in, and hit them with Gorilla glue. They're pretty strong once the glue is dried. Also I repaired the rectangular clear orange lights at the wing tips. There are 2 on top and bottom wing.
  3. Just added in the pylons. I left off the sway braces for now, just to be on the safe side. I added in thin plastic strips along each pylon's. They represented some sort of gaskets. You can see them on the real things. Plus they hide imperfections along the joints. The curves on the pylons don't match the wings curves that well. I suspect QB made these for the Tamiya's Skyraider. Note how the pylons are positioned. The big ones are pointing vertical to the ground, while the smaller ones are perpendicular to the wings. And notice the third pylon
  4. About the wings, this is where it came from. I built this 15 years ago. [ I had a big snafu. While moving the model around, it slipped off the base and dropped on a hard tile floor. Needless to say, it was obliterated in small pieces. All the kings men couldn't put this back in their wildest dream. It was one of my better build effort, with painted fuselage bands and insignias, and a bunch of scratch builds. After my composure recovered, along with some explicit vocabularies, I decided on what to do with it. Then the light bulb kicked
  5. Greeting ARC modelers, It's been a few years since I did a show and tell here. So this is my attempt on the Fat Face using the Revell/Matchbox kit bash with the Monogram Skyraider wings. I'm going to use a rehab Monogram wings. More about that later. I'll be using a KMC front cowl set I got on Ebay many years back. The set includes the whole front engine compartments, plus some extras. KMC came out with this update many years ago, and was meant to address the Monogram A-1H small cowl size. Even though the Revell cowl had the right size, the nose ring shape i
  6. That is amazing! I thought I was looking at a 1/72. Open canopy on a 1/144?
  7. Like one post says, minimize the gaps to begin with. What I do is get a large piece of wet sand paper, and lay it on a flat surface. Hold the fuselage or wings over the sanding surface and start sanding lightly. Be sure to put down uniform but not too much pressure so that you create an even surface throughout. Do that to the other side also; note you may have to cut off the locating pins. Now you have even mating sides with roughed up surfaces that'll make a real strong joint once you hit it with Tamiya extra thin cement.
  8. Thanks Chuck for the contribution. Not often we get to see outstanding build and well written like this in the In Progress forum, which lately appeared to be getting fewer than past. Only thing I could suggest, maybe this should be pinned.
  9. Outstanding work. Hey Chuck, what is the blue background you're using? It absorbed shadows and light reflection pretty good. Triet
  10. Glad to hear you are all right. Hoping for all the best in recovery, and stay safe.
  11. Thanks for down scaling the decals Steve, as I am in the market for a 1/48 subject. Your VNAF subjects are top notch accuracy. No other decal makers put as much research as you in this subject. Now about the timing, where were you 4 months ago when I needed this for my 1/72 build? 😄 Cheers TrietCam
  12. I have a spare nose cone that I dont use. Let me know if you still need it.
  13. Exactly. You could easily get carried away. If I were doing a Mono, I would only add a QuickBoost pylon sets, only because the Monogram big inner pylons are on the short and small side . Plus all the weapons were cast with the pylons, so you don't have much options but to use what's there. All the other stuffs, cowl, seat, are not noticeable, if you execute a well build model, unless you totally fixated on the shortfalls, and gotta have them right.
  14. I used the CMK (maybe out of production now).I remember it was straight forward, wasn't too much problem.
  15. The Navy version used the solid rubber rear tire, which is already depicted in the kit. The Air Force had inflated tire and some configuration had landing lights attached to either the legs or wing tips. I haven't come across a USN A-1 with lights on the legs yet. Otherwise, there are no exterior differences.
  16. I think most likely the printer. Few years ago I had a HP Photosmart inkjet printer. It printed perfectly. Now it was replaced by one of the newer all in one printer, HP also. Ran into the same problem you had. Same Testors decal used
  17. Good morning. Does anyone knows a good method to create these louvers? The kit mold in is pretty poor representation. I'm thinking of using thin brass, but not sure how to keep all 4 even. TIA
  18. Good afternoon. My cheap Harbor Freight compressor starting to quit after 5 yrs. I got enough mileage out of it, considering it was only $22. Thought I ask for advice on this Badger airbrush compressor if anyone has this. Seems like a good package deal. I'm interested in the compressor performance. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Airbrush-Compressor-Kit-Dual-Action-Spray-Brush-Set-Cylinder-Piston-Compressor/132425062920?hash=item1ed5261a08:g:zJgAAOSwrDBZadNH TIA TrietCam
  19. Got the PB plug but doesn't work either - it was working few days back. PB was becoming a hassle, so I moved on to Flicker few years back. Easy to use, plus you can post your pics any larger format you want, unlike PB.
  20. The metal canopy top might've been for the A-1G. I was thinking the same. $115 for the conversion, throw in the steeper ZM kit for $159 plus maybe a set of decals not covered, now you got a little financing to do. Maybe I should finish the 1/48 A-1E shoe horn task first. Triet
  21. All right! ... But what about the landing gear doors, and are we supposed to scribe the panel lines? Or I got way ahead of myself?
  22. I have the Eagle Strike decal - new, unused in original bag. Let me know if you still need it.
  23. Wow! Are the Tiger stripes painted on? That's awesome
