  1. Hey, dudes! (and "dudettes", if applicable...) here are some pics of my first build after getting back into the hobby a couple years ago: Revell kit w/CAM resin "D" conversion, enlarged Superscale decals, scratchbuilt BOL rails, LANTIRN pod/adapter, and some cockpit details... weapons from Academy Hornet kit. I joined the horizontal stab.'s with brass tubing, and a chopped-off piece of wood clothespin served to "stretch" the fuselage vertically, enough to "meet up" with the nose section--- I don't know if that's a helpful tip or not...! oh, yeah-Gunze acrylics, Testor's & MM
  2. Great photos, Guy...and the model's not too bad either :D ! After reading your entire build thread for this one at least twice, I can see why your model is so "photogenic"... I just recieved "The Modern Viper Guide" the day you posted this, and after seeing your amazing photos I can't wait to get started on my 1/32 Block 30C project! I especially like the work you did on the exhausts, and the subtle yet prominent weathering effects overall. You could probably sneak a couple of your pics into a series of 1/1 scale walkaround photos without anyone being the wiser! Again, really nice stuff!
  3. Geez, Guy... well here's to being an "idiot", then! Seriously, you really nailed it with those tail stiffeners (as well as all the other detail you've been adding). The Cross Delta set , although very thorough and "comprehensive" lacks some of the three dimensional detail so visible in this scale...the Steel Beach set is very nice, also, but requires assembly and rivetting - so I'd say you got the best elements of both in your scratched version! As for the [future] paint job, personally I hope you stick with "dirty line jet"- while weathering can cover up 'mistakes', it also ac
  4. Pierre, it goes (almost) without saying that you are an amazing, and very perseverent model builder -I am sorry to see another mishap...but if it is any consolation... I was about to give up on my last build, and modelling in general (at least for a while), after spilling isopropyl on all of the carefully masked/painted tails and flaps of my last build: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=169791. ...At the exact same time, I witnessed YOU fix a terrible casting resin mishap with grace, skill and an "Oh Well" attitude- I immediatly thought to myself , "Well, if that guy can m
  5. Really cool stuff as always, Guy! I'm always amazed by your innovative approach, and the resourceful solutions you come up with for some tough 'fixes'! Really nice work on those engines (kitchen foil?), and a great start on the chin pod. VERY inspiring- thanks for sharing more of your incredible stuff. :) Rob P.S. Although it doesn't seem to affect the quality of your work ;) , maybe a small "space heater" would make your work area more "user friendly" - at least here in the U.S., these are available for around $20, and have an adjustable thermostat (so to avoid "desert-like" conditions.
  6. I don't know if this helps much, but there was recently a thread in the "Jet Modelling" forum by DR. Pepper resins discussing an upcoming project later this year (1/32 LANTIRN pod). Alternatively, the Academy 1/32 F-16 kit includes one that someone might be able to part with (I've noticed some builds around here where it was not used.) Good luck in your search! -Rob Edit: I see someone posted the Dr. Pepper thread above. I'm not quick enough!
  7. Wow, the weathering you did looks just right... If that kit can look this good OOB, I might have to start building 1/48! Great work. Oh, and I see YOU, at least, got the tail lights right! :) (Thanks again for the "hint") Rob

Gwaaageous! (phonetically speaking...) You don't see many of these. Great paintwork (and build), NaOH! -Rob
  9. Holy sub-assemblies! That turned out really nice! For someone who doesn't usually build ships (anymore), you did it like a pro...actually, for someone who does build alot of ships, you did it like a pro...! I hope I'm that brave when I decide to battle the 'photoetch monster', someday... Outstanding stuff. -Rob
  10. That is an OUTSTANDING piece of work, and definitely would make a great "master"! On a side note, if you don't mind my asking: what was your technique for scribing around the "barrel" of that pod? I scratched a LANTIRN pod for a 1/32 F-14, and for me, scribing around the body of that thing was the most difficult part. Great work! -Rob
  11. If using the food coloring & future method, it could be brushed on or dipped in the mixture. With clear acrylics, I would airbrush them because of the added thickness of the paint, then dip the canopy in future to avoid peeling when masking the frame. Rob
  12. Another way is to mix (acrylic) clear yellow with (acrylic) tamiya smoke, with maybe a drop of clear red. This can be "diluted" with future if it looks too intense. You can test & adjust the mixture on some clear packaging material. Hope that helps -Rob
  13. That is one for the "gallery" - just looks great, overall! I love the paint scheme, and the fact that you did a 'two-seater' aggressor makes it even better! Great stuff -Rob
  14. That is just AMAZING modelling/painting work. I hope you are (somehow, mirror base, maybe?) going to display this so that all your meticulous work on the underside is visible. Outstanding, inspiring work! -Rob
  15. Amazing work so far, Ben. I can't wait to see how this one progresses! "Hunzilla" is right! :o -Rob
  16. Very nice! I hope you post some pic's of the "finished" article when you get to that point! -Rob
  17. Maaan! Great job matching the tail colors, and those decals look great too! I thought your 'pit (esp. the instrument panel -WOW) looked great also. Did you tint the canopy? It looks like the real deal, however you did it. Big -Rob P.S. I love that giant emoticon you posted on my build thread...WAY too freakin' cool!!
  18. Pat -Seeing YOUR work always makes my day, too! Thanks! Alex -Thank you, and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff, soon, I hope! habu2 - Glad you liked! As for my photog. skills, I have a ways to go yet. I did these with a I am a spammer....please report this post. "Digimax" S600 belonging to my GF. It's sort of a mid-grade "point & shoot" model that offers a little extra adjustability. I used an adjustable ( 12"-48") tripod and shot about 250 photos (mostly duplicates - it was a little windy that day, and the model kept shaking, and wanting to reposition itself) - the partly clo
  19. Super nice stuff! I really love the "pose" you did for the hornet, esp. with that wicked loadout...very realistic baby, also! Perfect, indeed, even without any aftermarket! :D - Rob
  20. That is...uh...I'm speechless! If I could make a Tomcat look like that, I'd be building it right now! Incredible build, and great, sharp photos! That is one amazingly "real" looking paint job!!!! :D Rob
  21. Thanks, dudes! Guy, those pic's look outstanding! Thanks again for the "improvements"...actually, I would have asked you to do that, myself, but didn't want to seem too . I hope you get some good weather soon so we can see more pic's of YOUR latest!!! Steve-Will there at least be a "SCRC" (Stamp Collecters Resource Center) in the future, then? You... can't quit now, we've only just met... P.S. For some reason, Steve, I always get hungry for a burger (with ham & cheese) after reading your posts...hmm...(?) Gregg- Just saw that!
  22. Thanks again, Steve! If you get a chance, check out some of the other photos that Geedubulyer was so kind to "fix" a little way down page 1 of this thread- (and thanks for "doctoring" one yourself, of course! Looks great!) Hopefully, the next time I post some "in flight" photos, I will at least have a "passing" knowledge of how to do this myself. -Rob
  23. Niiiiice! If I hadn't looked at the (linked) build thread (also excellent, BTW), a year from now I'd probably still be wondering how you got the finish so perfect! - Outstanding work! :D -Rob
  24. Thank you all for the encouraging words! I have seen such amazing work by so many of you & I'm really glad you liked what I did. -Steve F., Thanks & great job on 9 years of one of the best websites around! & ! (If I had only discovered this place sooner...!) -luke, if by "interested in learning about this scheme and the project behind it" You mean the actual (1:1) aircraft (I'm assuming you do), all I know for sure is that they painted it around the same time as the MARPAT (digital) camo was first introduced to the Marine Corps.. I would love to know more about the concept
  25. That is really, really cool, Fidoo! Great work! ...And a very ambitious idea you have there for the next one! Please show some pictures when you get going on that ! Congrats, Rob
