  1. Wow, thanks! I really appreciate that, guys! John T.-I've checked out some of your builds here, and all I can say is...I hope I'm that good at this, someday! Ken-I love your in-flight builds, esp. your "9-11 first responder" Eagle...I considered doing this one "going wheels up" (to showcase Academy's excellent landing gear), but talked myself out of it. It was really cool to see someone else pull it off so succesfully! (p.s.-I bet that base in the very last photo looks "familiar"... ) Dave (Sig Sauer & Son)- Your encyclopedic knowledge and beautiful photography are definitely one of th
  2. I know this will be another stunner, and the accuracy police will have a real hard time catchin' YOU! Looks great so far! -Rob
  3. Thanks guys, you are too kind, and to answer some questions, that "background" is actually a flat rubber roof...I wish I could take credit for the "weathering", because it turned out pretty O.K.! Also, the toughest part of this was doing the drawings, from somewhat limited reference photos-I think the simple techniques I used here could be done (maybe better) by anyone , with the proper motivation... Dave, that is too cool of you! You were a big inspiration for this build-when I read that you were doing a comprehensive sheet on this aircraft (as well as the "digital" AH-1W), I literally
  4. Those guys look OUTSTANDING! and Dragon figures, no less...You're defininitely on the right track, to say the least! Good job. -Rob
  5. That is very kind of you guys! I thought Guy's photoshopping looked really cool too...I guess I got some more learnin' to do in that dept.! Gregg, thanks again for answering my question about "margins" in forum FAQ...part of my problem was just simply knowing how to use the "return" key! I guess I should try typing more than just a few quick emails, then I would know this stuff!
  6. That is one great looking skyhawk! Great choice of decals too! P.S. Your Tomcat "collection" is lookin' good too! I wish I could get that much stuff done in such a short time. Awesome!
  7. Thanks guys, it means alot coming from people who's work I have admired so much!... and Bob, I know there's no such thing as a "transporter", so how did you guys get my $3 decal sheet frrom SoCal to me so fast? -Thanks! (now I can add those canopy frame stencils!) P.S. sorry for the (previous) empty posts, my mistake .
  8. I counted 7 EGA's, SSgtd6152, and they are all (barely) visible in my photos...as my former Marine boss/drinking buddy used to say (usually after he bought the bar it's tenth round or so! "Improvise, adapt, and overcome"). Seriously, and with all due respect, thanks for taking the time to look at my attempt to do this thing some justice. :D Semper, Rob
  9. Oops...I misspelled "Ordnance". Sorry! It won't happen again, I swear... ! -Rob Oh yeah, Dk. Gunship gray=FS 36081-Doh! (must've been the afformentioned "liquid courage" doing the typing... )
  10. Thanks very much, guys! To answer a couple questions, here's how I did the paint job (and yes , Kev, the linked references were the only ones I had at the time): Step 1: lots of 'liquid courage', research, and head scratching... Step2: I enlarged the kit decal placement diagrams (roughly) to scale, and using the zoom function on my computer (to better see the paint job), drew the design, with HB (no.2) pencil, T-square, and 30/60 triangle (rudimentary drafting tools). Then I recopied the drawings at a darker setting, laminated them with clear contact paper, and, using an X-acto knife, cut th
  11. Big thanks to all of you guys for the really nice compliments! I have been amazed by the builds I've seen here, and I probably would have quit (again) after the first one I did last year if it hadn't been for the incredibile amount of enthusiasm, inspiration, and unprescedented sense of humor around this place... model building embodies engineering, sculpture, and a history lesson all in one...not to mention a lot of fun. Strikeeagle801-If you had 3 months of "laid off" time, as I did , I bet you would come up w/something pretty cool, yourself! Geedubulyer-When I saw the "off the cuff" p
  12. Thanks, Eric! *Edit for added pics * - these were taken in 2008, and I 'shopped' out the support rod in 2011.
  13. Hello ARC'ers, and Happy 9th! AWESOME website. I'm new here (obviously), so, by way of introduction, I thought I'd show some photos of a recently completed project, my second since getting back into model building (after 25+ yrs....Yikes!). It began as a simple OOB build, but soon turned into the "experiment" seen here. I used: - Academy kit (original release) - Black Box interior and exterior sets for late "C" Hornet. - Eduard canopy details and cockpit placards. - Gunze acrylics, Testors & MM enamels, Alclad laquer. - Promodeller dark wash, MIG pigments (vietnam dirt), b

    Photo posting

Hi, I am new to the forums here, and I'm wondering how to put margins/text between photos that I post... I'm sure it's pretty simple, and I seem to remember a thread detailing how to do this, but darned if I can figure it out now. Any help is appreciated... THX, Rob
