  1. Finaly I used a blackish brown for the wash and a dark grey for the filter. Matt cote was Xtracrylix Flat Varnish. Now only some minor details have to be added (antenna on the tail fin, fix bent antenna on the belly, discoball, etc.) and this little Blackhawk is ready for the display case.
  2. No that's correct. The NATO black is a little bit "greenish". In the last days I used future to prepare the Blackhawk for the decals. Those were by far the smalles decals I ever used and the are not very user-friendly. For example: The tail-number isn't one piece but 5 several decals and on the air intake are two seperate "no step" decals. :blink:/> I'll have to break the contrast of the decals by using a filter but I haven't decided yet, which colour I should use. Any ideas? I also don't really know which wash I will use. Something dark or should I use a sand-ton
  3. Thank you mates - it's so much fun to be at the workbench again after this long break. Today the rotor got the first layers of paint. I used different shades of Tamiya XF-1 to get some contrast to the rest of the helicopter. The rotormast was painted using a mix of aluminum and copper. The metal-edges still have to be painted and then it's time for future and decals. :banana:/>
  4. Hi Thorsten! I used little pieces of masking tape to "build" the outlines of the windows and then made a bigger part for the middle. Some masks are just cut out by using the good old "trial and error"-system. ;) Today I detailed the rotor. I used hot water to soften the plastic and then tried to replicate the droop of the rotor blades. The smaller rods aside the rotorshaft were replaced by thin wire and the cables and the little reservoir on top were added. The rotorshaft itself was shortened a little bit. I also started to paint the smaller details like the sensors,
  5. ...your wish is my command. :thumbsup:/> Finally, after some last sanding I used 80% NATO-black and 20% white (both TAMIYA) as base colour. After that I did my firstever post-shading by adding more white and 50% thinner to the base colour. As you can see I added some antennas and other stuff to the Dragon kit. A nice little kit this is. Nearly no filling and sanding was needed. And it won't use too much space in the display since it's only 2/3 the length of my airbrush (Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline)
  6. Helpfull tipps given here! Since I already used NATO black as a primer I think I'll lighten that up and use it as base colour. Thank you!
  7. Hello everybody, right now a little 1/144-MH-60L from Dragon is waiting on my desk for its painjob and I don't know how to do it in a way it won't look too boring. How do I start? For the scale-effect I would try 75% black and 25% white as base colour but do I start with a black pre-shading or should I lighten up the colour and try a post-shade? If you know some WIPs where this is shown or you have some helpfull tipps, please let me know.
  8. In the Squadron Signal-book I came across some pictures of SH-3As that were used for CSAR-operations. Sadly most pictures were black and white. Are there any pictures out there in colour?
  9. Here are some guesses for the Caiman-colors: http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=239956&st=0&p=2326043
  10. I used thinned down NATO-Black (95% thinner, 5% paint) on my AH-1W: LINK
  11. I really like your "style" of painting. Especially how you are able to make larger plain areas look so alive. The battery cart shows that very good.
  12. ipmsstockholm says (LINK): H51 = FS 16440 H57 = FS 36231 I think we're getting close.
  13. Andre, yor're totally right. I mixed up something there. I tried to get a different approach to this issue and remebered, that camo on the French Panthers look quite similar to the camo on the Caiman and I came across THIS He used Gunze H307 and H308. Perhaps someone knows the exact colours that are used on the Panther?
  14. Thank you for this input. What paint documents do you have there? Sounds interesting. I think Humbrol 127 is what you could also use for a Royal Navy Sea King (the ones with the red nose). Perhaps someone else has another idea.
  15. Me too! Those Revell-mixes can't be right. Do the French use RAL-codes or F.S.-numbers? http://www.airliners.net/photo/France---Navy/NHI-NH-90-NFH/1727851/L/ It's based on the prototype so some vents are not shaped totally right but you can fix that. Too bad they didn't include a NFH-rotorhead in the box so you have to build a NFH with a non-foldable rotor. Could be quite a challenge to get it into a frigate-hangar.
  16. Sad to hear what happened but here's a trick for that problem: I use hot water! You take a mug with really hot water and then dip the rotorblade into the hot water until it gets soft enough to bend it. Don't dip it in the water too long! When you're finished cool it down by dipping it into a glass of cold water. Try it - it works!
  17. If this turns out as good as your HH-60H it will be a real stunner.
  18. Uhh - that looks like quite a lot of work to do. I'll follow this one.
  19. Thank you all for your kind comments! I'm really happy that you like how my idea turned out. I used a stabilo point 88: http://www.stabilo.com/pages-us/products/point-88.php I cut out a small piece from the pen, sanded it in shape, made a small cone from aluminium, made a backplate from thin styrene and pane from a blister pack. I also placed a small cylinder in the middle of the cone made from dark plastic. That's pretty much it. I have to disappoint you in this case. In Red Dawn they used the same helicopters as they used in Rambo II and Rambo III. Here are the Pumas in Red Dawn. The
  20. Chinook AND CH-53 are great kits too - they fit very good and are real fun to build! http://www.scale-rotors.com/gallery/cargo-...-chinook-revell http://www.scale-rotors.com/gallery/cargo-...ch-53g-revell-0
  21. I'm done: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=218470 @spejic: I really like your little helicopters and the extra detail you give them! I think the 1/144-kits from revell are really good kits.
  22. Perhaps you remember that romantic comedy-drama called Rambo III? I've seen it back in the early 90s and was impressed by that mighty helicopter flown by the sowjet soldiers. For me the helicopter was the star of the film and since then I wanted one. Sadly no kit maker produced a kit of that helicopter so I had to wait until I was able to do one by myself. I used the SA-330 Puma by Airfix and added sponsons and rotorblades from Whirlybits. The weapons under the wings are from the Hobby Boss Hind and the doorgunner weapons are FN-MAGs by Goffy Models. I love this view!
  23. Unbelievable what you do in 1/144. Your scratchbuilding skills are impressive! I've build this kit last year and I liked building it very much.
  24. Matt cote is applied - I just have to do the rotors, weapons and gear and then it's done.
