  1. Looks great! I like the cut-away presentation.
  2. I placed my order with him in August '09, and so far I've got bupkis.
  3. Yes, it's a nice kit alright
  4. Thanks! According to the Ginter book on the Demon: "VF-122 started out life as the 'Minute Men' of reserve squadron VF-783. The squadron was called to active duty on 20 July 1950 and became VF-122 on 4 Feb. 1953. VF-122 was then decommissioned on 1 May 1958" The squadron received its Demons in 1957. In July of that year the subject of my model (#137001) crash landed on the deck of the U.S.S. Ticonderoga (CVA-14). VF-122 departed for a WESTPAC cruise aboard CVA-14 inn September 1957. The squadron flew CAP sorties during the period of rising tensions between Nationalist and Red Chinese.
  5. Thanks! The nose gear is quite fragile with all the fine resin linkages. I'm afraid to sneeze anywhere near it. It'll be interesting to see how HobbyBoss designs the nose gear on their upcoming Demon.
  6. Don't fear the Demon. It's not a shake 'n bake kit, but the end result is really nice.
  7. In the past I have used tiny dabs of 5-minute epoxy for this. I "tease" them into the correct teardrop shape, let them harden, then paint them. I use Tamiya clear paint, and I apply multiple coats to provide the desired color intensity (eg. deep red for the belly light).
  8. When did you place your order? I placed mine last August.
  9. I too have an old boxing of the B-29, and I was able to get the new Hamilton Standard props by simply requesting them from the Revell USA website. The part number for these props is 54, and the kit number is 85-5711.
  10. <sigh> It wasn't always like this. I remember the good 'ol days when Floquil Old Silver and Platinum Mist were lacquer-based and cured very quickly to a hard, durable finish. Then, some years ago, Floquil changed them to an enamel-based formula. They're still good paints, but not quite the same...
  11. Outstanding work! And I'm with you on the 50's era jets.
  12. I'm into jets, but not for the technology. Modern jets bore me to tears. My favorite subjects are the 1st and 2nd generation jets. They were very crude by today's standards. Engineers were grappling with new principles in aerodynamics and propulsion, and the pace of development was so rapid that some designs were practically obsolete the moment they rolled off the assembly line. Very cool stuff, IMHO.
  13. I'd like to comment on the terrific customer service I recently received from Revell. I recently purchased a second-hand B-29 Superfortress kit that was missing several crucial pieces. I went to the Revell website and found a section that allowed me to order the missing parts I needed at no charge. 10 days later the parts I ordered showed up in my mailbox. I don't get service like this very often, so I sent them an email to express my appreciation.
  14. Nope- count me in too. Let's ask for a 1/48 B-66 while we're at it.
  15. I too have an assortment of scribers, but most of them sit in a drawer gathering dust. I find nothing else is as versatile as a needle chucked in a pin vise. I'm currently rescribing a Monogram F-105 with this tool, and so far there's nothing it can't handle.
  16. I built this last year. It's the Hasegawa 1/48 F-86F with Eduard photoetch and decals by Superscale and Aeromaster. Paints are Alclad II, Testor's Metalizer, and Testor's Model Master.
  17. Ditto the hot water bath. I use a coffee mug and one of those little electric mug warming hot pads during all my decaling sessions. Nothing like a hot bath to relax a stubborn decal.
  18. Try it- you'll never go back. Setting the white balance made a huge difference in the photos I take indoors.
  19. Great job on your Fury! I love the subtle weathering- just right.
  20. F-94C. Then I'll finally be able to complete my ADC interceptor collection in 1/48
  21. Thank you. I used a Canon Digital Rebel camera. I manually adjusted the white balance and set it up for maximum depth-of-field exposures.
