  1. Hey There, I was checking messages and saw that you "be-friended" me. The only thing I know is that you are from WI. Does WI still have an ANG Unit at Madison that flies F-16's? At one time, OH had the largest Air Force of any state. We had 5 fighter units and a bunch of other flying units. I build mostly ANG stuff. I also build for military folks, active, retired, et.al. Take care,...

  2. I haven't built any modern AFVs and am working on Trumpeter's M117. I'm wondering how much and how to weather it. I have seen some photos of desert vehicles ranging from new to pretty beat up and was wondering what an average M117 would look like. Any ideas or places to find good photos? Thanks
  3. I do have an ARII P-47D, are they the same as the Otaki kits? It looks pretty nice except for the cockpit but I have one from True Details or could use one from either the Tamiya or Hasegawa P-47s I have.
  4. I have built the Academy P-38 in the last few years but haven't done the Monogram P-38 since I was building models with tube cement and craft paint. I might give it another try.
  5. I just found I have a reissue of Monogram's devastator but there aren't any copyright dates engraved on the plastic. How old is that? Its a cool plane and if I build it then I have an excuse to buy the new GWH Devastator to compare them...
  6. I remember building the mosquito as a kid sometime in the early 90's... Has it been reissued since? The hobby shop near me that sold old kits closed up last year so I haven't seen one in a while.
  7. The P-39 does look pretty nice. Is it worth it to rescribe the panel lines? Didn't look like anyone bothered in the reviews... I mostly just want to see if I can do it. Anybody know how old the Monogram Skyraider and P-47D are? I bought them both on sale without boxes, decals or instructions. The Skyraider looks pretty much like the Tamiya one with raised panel lines.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I have a few of those in my stash, didn't realize how old some of those kits are. Is Ebay the best place to find the AMT kits? I was thinking about doing the reissue of the Kingfisher or the Typhoon, I have seen some aftermarket for them in articles but haven't found much for sale. Also is the AMT B-26 the ESCI kit?
  9. The yearly contest for a model club I belong to is building kits produced before 1970. They can be reissues. I would like to update with resin cockpit, P.E., rescribe panel lines etc but keep the total price under twenty five bucks or so if possible. I haven't really used aftermarket stuff other than p.e. belts and Eduard kits before so am looking for an older kit and aftermarket stuff that is easy to start with. I like mostly 1/48 WWII, any ideas? THanks
  10. Thanks for the suggestions. I have been looking at the dremel stylus as well. Anybody have one?
  11. Is there anything to do to slow it down? I have read about an accessory to plug into the wall to do that but haven't seen it. Thanks
  12. I'm looking to buy a motor tool. I haven't owned one but am considering the Dremel 4000. Would any of the cheaped models work as well? I like the more precise speed control of the 4000. Also, the 4000 is offered with 3 different amounts of accessories. Is any of this stuff helpful for modeling besides the sanding wheels etc? Thanks
  13. Thanks I'll give it a try.
  14. Just got the new Airfix Seafire F.XVII and want to finish it this weekend. I can't readily get Humbrol paints. Anyone know what colors to use instead? The version I want to do is extra dark sea gray and dark slate gray on top with beige green undersides. I prefer acrylics (model master, vallejo, tamiya). I could probably find this if I looked hard enough but I want to start building... Thanks...
