  1. Alright... So I have the Hase 00829 F-18E Superhornet kit. I'm getting to the point of payload, and I have a few questions. Let's start with intended role - Long Range Air Superiority Payload, with three tanks and missiles. First - the Fuselage Hardpoints - is the Targetting pod Always carried, and is it always on the Pilot's Right side? Are the hardpoints wired for missile carriage, likely AIM-120? Second - the Outboard Heavy Hardpoints - the Hase kit comes with the twin bomb racks, which have no place on my payload. Are these capable of carrying twin rails, and which rails should I loo
  2. Alright, so I'm in a bit of a situation. I'm planning to use a set of the F-15's tank-and-rail combo pylons on another aircraft, and sourcing the tanks is a slight problem. I'm working in 1/72 scale, and I'm wondering, as I know it's likely, which other aircraft they've been used on. The guy who's sourcing me the pylons has a pair from a Corsair and another from a Skyray. I'm doubtful about the Skyray tanks, but I'm curious if the A-7 tanks would be the right size/type for the configuration. It's odd to ask, but I'm going to use them on a fully-loaded model of a F-23, and a source told me
  3. Thankyou for the correction. While I'm not sure if I could find a use for it elsewhere, I'll avoid buying the Tamiya paint and opt for another solution. I know I can't do the broken green over metal scheme because that was Army camouflage, so I guess if I want to stay accurate-ish, Green over Grey or Green over NMF would be more suitable. Leaves me hoping I can find a IJNAF fighter squadron with some neat tail art I guess.
  4. Alright, my previous attempt was obviously too narrow in thinking. I know the IJNAF went through a number of changes during the war, so I'll be a little broader in my attempts to find means to add to/improve the models I have on hand. What I'm looking for are Carrier Squadrons that were operating during the '45 era. I know they had been moved off the few surviving carriers in 44, so I'm looking for the ones that were last to move. What I'm looking for are: General Information - Tail/Fuselage band code explanations, Tail numbers, extra markings to add to the models. Fighter Squadron - I'v
  5. Makes sense they say it Soo, considering the designation is an abbreviation of the company name. The German method with numbers is an interesting case, reminds me of old Roman Numerals, and the habit of four and nine, where it's One-Before-Five and One-Before-Ten, or IV/IX rather than IIII or VIIII. Now this is probably unique to me, but every time I see the designation SDKFZ, it rolls through my mind as "Sand-Kafahz" for some odd reason. I mean I know it's Sonder Kraftfarzeug, but that's the way my mind reads it. I'll admit, I'm also one of those who thinks Ess-You Twenty-seven, yet at th
  6. That's quite an impressive list of payloads... with some more for the 27M... I'm curious if it says anything about the possibility of hanging the quad racks on the four typical hardpoints and the tank centerline. The fact they show loads with wing tanks is interesting, I'd read that they restricted wing sweep to 17 degree position not 25 or 72, but I guess if you want the bomb truck to go far, it works...
  7. So I'm assuming, taking that last shot at the end where you can see it in full notice, there's not as much of a standing-out pylon as just a rack mount that's tight to the fuselage... the four quad racks makes an interesting look on it, I'll have to get my hands on some to do that setup. I'm guessing the outboard fuselage points were capable of using either UB-16 or UB-32 rocket pods, and max 250kg bombs? I know the four main points were 1000kg rated, or so I read, so the detailed images of it help, but knowing what they typically held is something entirely different.
  8. Alright, so this one's a bit of a trouble question, far as I know. I haven't seen any good pictures of the MiG-27, in clean colour and detail, showing the two angled outboard fuselage pylons. I want to do a -27 with a full strike loading, which means I want to do all four Fuselage hardpoints, the Glove Pylons and the Centerline Tank. I'm not going to fall into the trick trap of doing a warload with the wing tanks, because those are only used on ferry flights or display racks since they restrict wing sweep to staying at 17 degrees from what I read. So, information would be appreciated. I k
  9. Well, I went and made a sizable mistake somewhere along the way... I part-started a MiG-31 and was working on the nose when I lost the spirit of the build. So I put the parts aside, and recently the inspiration hit me, but I'd be damned if I can find the transparency sprue. So if anybody can give me a good idea on where I can get one, or happens to have one, I would greatly appreciate it.
  10. It's pretty clear that the Revell T-72 looks a lot like the ACE kit, though they seem to have made a few modifications, like the Glacis plate, which suggests they might have bought the masters from ACE and modified them... that layout looks a LOT like the ACE kit. I wonder if they'll have you remove the forward track covers on the T-90, and have the forward turret modifications to upgrade it to the T-90 like the ACE kit.
  11. Alright, so I did a little extra looking, and it seems that only the 601st Kokutai was assigned to Taiho at the time she was sunk... as well as Shokaku and Zuikaku. They seem to have been broken into smaller units in early '44, so that, I guess, is the key to the whole thing... is which squadrons came out of the 601st Kokutai - the 601 included all types of aircraft, so multiple squadrons would have been formed.
  12. yeah, the kit looks quite interesting, and the parts layout suggests that they have plans for the T-72 hull in all its variations. Like I said, the layout is not like the ACE kit, but I can't tell its relevance to the Revell kit for design.
  13. There's a brand spanking new kit from an odd company named Modelcollect - It's still up for a pre-order at Luckymodel, but if the TOS-1 kit they have is any indication, it is NOT and I repeat NOT a copy/repop of the ACE kit. I Have the ACE Kit, in progress, and the layout is completely different. I haven't seen the Revell model, so I can't vouch as to if there's any commonality in the construction there. That article Does suggest there is more in the brass market for details, but I can't help you there. I'm not entirely sure as to how good ACE's etched tracks are, I didn't buy them. The A
  14. Before anybody mentions, I was all but laughed out of J-Aircraft's forum for asking this question, because it involves What If concepts. Anyways, back to the information at hand. Does anybody have profiles or information regarding the markings for the squadrons that were embacked on Taiho during her service life? I've got a multiple-models themed build on the books, to back up a Shinano that I built a short time ago. The story goes with Shinano's "auxiliary carrier" theory being thrown out for a necessity of full blown Carriers once she gets finished. The airgroup consists as follows: C6
  15. I'm not sure exactly when the scheme was retired, but you could do it in a retro-style High Speed Silver as the RAF did their aircraft in at one point. That would give it a metallic look with some level of credence.
