  1. Hi John, not been on here for a while, so sorry for your loss, never easy losing a loved one. ..... Onto happier things.....great to see your Harrier progress so spectacularly-absolutely brilliant!
  2. Well, reading all of this has me itching to get my hands on a few of these when they come out next year....in the meantime I invaded the stash and hooked out the three Fujimi kits I have. Incidentally ALL have the FGR2 type fins, and all have the same "rear" access door for the tail hook. . I'd love to see photo's of those amended by Fujimi with the FG1 "panels" just to see how they did it! It also makes me think why bother with that amendment, and leave the awful generic cockpit tub as it was! I have an FG1 already started that has been in the "to do" pile for a few years.....maybe I sh
  3. I've been modelling RAF/FAA Phantoms for years and I never knew about the fin leading edge nor the access door differences. You live and learn! In modelling terms this is just a matter of filling a couple of panel lines and re-scribing in anew. That's if it bothers you of course, I won't get into the panel line debate here! Airfix would be unlikely to offer two separate fins to accommodate both variations, though you never know! Frog/Hasegawa, Matchbox and Fujimi in 1/72 and Hasegawa in 1/48 certainly never noticed it! I'm seriously looking forward to this kit, I have every single M
  4. Mea culpa.....6 of me being a bit thick, and half a dozen of you not explaining yourself properly...... enjoy your Kit.....
  5. OK, I see what you mean about the fin. Easily attended to with a splodge of filler if it's that apparent on the airfix kit and I thought that you were referring to the auxiliary intake doors on the fuselage, not the panels to service the tail hook. Incidentally talking of the Aux intake doors, for anyone with Fujimi kits in the stash, the original batch issued by them, with lower box serial numbers did have these in the wrong place. Later editions with higher box serial numbers had them corrected along with better detailed Spey nozzles and separate lower speed brakes.
  6. I never knew about the differences between the vertical stabs on FG1 and the FGR2, can you show exactly what you mean Rex? Also, I can't see any reason why the auxiliary intake doors on the rear fuselage would be different, in fact looking at photo's in Ian Black's and Patrick Martin's Phantom books seem to indicate that the doors were identically placed...on both mark's . I wonder why McDonnell Douglas would have built two separate types? The Sgt. Fletcher tanks should have one strengthening strip as you have pointed out. cheers Bill
  7. Superb, you've got that spot on....congrats!
  8. This is excellent news. I shall start saving now....
  9. I've been planning a similar conversion for a good few years too..there have been too many false dawns regarding conversion sets.....main stumbling block has been the Spey cans, but as you've shown 3D printing is the way to go......great work..keep it up!
  10. Airfix are providing the nose cone as a separate piece so a PR nose and camera gear for an FR9 would be a relative easy option, either by Airfix or the aftermarket. I suspect thereafter that a truly modular approach wouldn't really be that feasible...the F4 had a shorter fuselage - the same length as the F3. For a PR10 you would need the F4 tail unit and different outer wing sections, no armament plus camera bays in the rear lower fuselage. I'd say that the PR10 would be a great option for a conversion set though, someone like Alley Cat/ AtoZee? If the wings are a separate tool, then an al
  11. The best Nimrod scheme......
  12. The Academy kit has a host of accuracy issues anyway, but if you're not bothered with that I'd suggest building the F6 and Just use those parts. The tailcone is wrong for an F6. Note that not all GA.11's had the Harley light in the nose, these were only seen on FRU/FRADU Hunters all had the armament in the nose removed though. Whatever, the conversion isn't that difficult...
  13. Its GRAMMAR actually..... But yes indeed a nice model.....
