  1. Now we're cooking.  I thought that the pylon was offset to the opposite side of the gun blister...good intel there.  The top photo from the thread earlier this year is of the aft ECM pylon IIRC, it looks like one of the rear under-fuselage strakes is in the background.

  2. Maybe Jim Rotramel will see this and chime in.  Working on a Hasegawa 1/72 F-111A during Constant Guard in 1972 and am trying to find more/any decent photos or drawings of the pylon used to mount the ALQ-87 ECM pod to the weapons bay door.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I lived in the Denver/Boulder area back in the early 80s.  I recall tons of great hobby shops..Colpar being the Gold Standard.  We visited the area on vacation in 2017, my first return in over 30 years.  I was shocked to discover the first hobby shop I had visited when I lived there was still a going concern: Thompson's Hobbies in Lakewood.  I have no idea if it's still open or not.  Their bread and butter seemed to be primarily craft stuff, so hopefully they're still afloat.  I made it a point to buy a couple things when we were there, just for old time's sake.

Thompson's Hobbies in Lakewood is closed now.  The property is up for sale.  We'll probably end up with another car wash or self storage.  Really was surprised how long they lasted.  80% of the store was focused on crafting...it was Hobby Lobby long before there were any Hobby Lobby's around.

  4. I'm looking for someone with the Classic Airframes Meteor NF.11/13 kit who would be willing to let me borrow the resin for a couple of weeks.  After the Special Hobby NF14 kit came out I sold mine, and only now realize that the cockpits were almost identical and the resin from the CA kit would go a long way toward helping with the Special Hobby kit.  Of course now I can't buy the kit for twice what I sold mine for.  If possible, I'd like to borrow your set of resin and pressure cast a copy, then send back the originals to you.  They'd be undamaged and I'd be happy to talk about some sort of compensation for your time, assistance and shipping.  Thanks for looking.

  5. There was actually a very detailed discussion about the Blues transition from Hornet to Super Hornet on the Fighter Pilot Podcast featuring a former Blue Angels "Boss" who was also in charge of the transition team.  It's a fascinating discussion and talks about all of the work that went into the project.

The "Spring" is the Artificial Feel System.  Prior to the F-18 all of the aircraft the Blues flew had manual trim...which allowed the pilots to dial in trim that would push them away from the formation if they relaxed the pressure on the control stick.  This provided a safety mechanism.  But the F-18A/C/D didn't have manual trim so in order to provide this pressure on the stick they installed a spring called the AFS.  It has four levels of push in multiples of 8 pounds of pressure...from 8 pounds up to 32 pounds.  The Blues fly their display with 32 pounds of pressure on the stick.

The AFS is first discussed at the 30 minute mark.

  6. I understand and appreciate all the deficiencies in the Hobby Boss f-111 kits.  That's why I haven't ever bought one.  I was just struck that Reskit put in the time and effort to produce a cockpit set for a version of the F-111 that Hobby Boss never appeared to have released.

I was planning on waiting for their cockpits for the Academy kits...for which I already have the full meal deal.  Dmold TP II intakes, Reskit Exhausts, Scaledown wings and mainwheel well.  I've got the old Verlinden update (yes I know), the Flightpath Pave Tack pod and picked up a lovely Eduard Brassin Pave Tack (its for the F-4, but I think it could be modified for the F-111...perhaps with a Black Dog weapons bay).

Both kits are dogs with different fleas.  Perhaps somebody out there with some influence can persuade somebody like GWH to invest in a new-tool 1/48 F-111 series.  Not likely...but we can always hope.

  7. Did Hobby Boss actually produce a 1/48 F-111F kit?  I've looked all over the webs and found no evidence of one.   I've seen the F-111A, FB-111, F-111C and F-111D/E, but no F-111F or EF-111A?  Just making sure I didn't miss something.  Keenly waiting for Reskit to release cockpits for the Academy kits I've collected all the fixings for.

  8. I know that I'm tilting at windmills here, but I'd love to see reprints of the 1/144 C-5 Galaxy sheets and the 1/144 C-133 Cargomaster sheet.  I've had an alert on ebay for them for almost two years (maybe a little longer) and have NEVER seen one come up.  Even the really obscure retailers don't have any.  They are unobtanium.  Keep up the great work.

PS any word on that 1/144 B-58 Hustler sheet?

  9. I need to update this.  Matt Bole did in fact send a refund last week when he said that he had.  Unfortunately he sent it to an incorrect email address.  So some other guy on gmail has spent the last week wondering why in the hell he just got $31.50 from Hobbyworld USA.  After trading a couple of messages last night...Matt sent me a full refund for the balance of my order this morning via Paypal.  So we're good at this point.

  10. Many of you saw, read or commented on my post last Tuesday, May 24th regarding Matt Bole and Hobbyworld USA.  I’m not interested in re-hashing that whole thing.  But I am going to provide an update.  First of all, there were some who doubted the veracity of my story…attached is a scan of the original invoice that came in the box with my order.  For those not familiar, Matt highlights the items on the invoice that are on backorder.  I didn’t do that.  I did however write Matt’s phone number on the bottom of the invoice so that it was easier when I tried to contact him later to inquire about the status of those items.  Those of you who are paying attention will note that in my post last week I said that I was owed $31.50…but if you add up the cost of the items highlighted you will learn that my math skills are poor and the amount actually is $31.75.  I’d be happy with the $31.50…so I’m not worrying about the extra quarter.  That brings us to the primary reason for this follow up post.

A few hours after my initial post…Matt Bole joined the conversation.  Posting at 12:35pm, “Refund on its way!”  Clearly Matt wanted to move on about as much as I did.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the post, and I waited expectantly for an email from Paypal indicating I had $31.50 sent back to me.  I figured it might be a couple of days while Matt pulled up the order and credited back the refund.  If nothing else, he could email me, or message me or pick up the phone.  He’s got my number.  But it has now been a bit over a week…and I have to tell all of you that as of this post…I have not received any "refund" that Matt indicated very publicly that he was sending.  I’m disappointed…and a bit sad about it to be honest.  I don’t need to drop any additional adjectives to describe what I think of this situation.  I did that last week and I don’t know that there is much that I can add now.  Draw your own conclusions.

I think the time to demand a refund was eight months ago. No offense but you waited until after the 6 month...half a year Paypal window to start to take issue...the seller isn't the only one to blame at this point.

You must not have been paying attention to the world in the last 30 months.  Getting stuff from one side of the blue marble to another right now has been harder, slower and more expensive than you can believe.  So you order something that is from Europe and the UK... in the middle of COVID, in the middle of Brexit.  The guy says he's getting a shipment in a few weeks.  You say ok.  Weeks turn into a couple of months...  It doesn't take all that long to hit your Paypal 90 day window.  Unless of course you are an a**hole.

  12. June 27, 2021 I placed an order (#026737) with you for a number of items, mostly MRP paints.  I paid for the complete order using Paypal.  You shipped the bulk of them, but three bottles of MRP (MRP032, 197 and 198) were put on backorder...along with a bottle of Zero Paints Vintage Jaguar Opalescent Light Maroon.  The total for the three MRP paints and the Zero Paint was $31.50

I called and spoke with you a couple of times last fall...where you said you were variously either just about to place an order or an order was expected shortly from either/both MRP and Zero Paints.  I was patient.  I was polite.  I was understanding.  In January I started trying to reach you with some more urgency.  I called and left voicemails.  I emailed.  I messaged you on Facebook.  I listened to the SMG podcast where you described how your website issues had adversely affected your business.  I got no replies.  Nothing.

In March I finally got tired of waiting.  I left more voicemails and emails asking to cancel the backorder and get refunded my money.  Crickets.  I called early in the morning.  I called late at night.  I started calling on Weekends.  Completely ignored.  At this point it has been 11 months.  My patience and understanding are at an end.  I'm about 6 months past the point where I could file a complaint with Paypal...so I'm basically SOL unless you just do the right thing and send me my $31.50   Do so and you'll never have to deal with me again.  Life is too short.

Clearly attempting to contact you through regular means is pointless.  So I'm going to dial up the pain and suffering on your online reputation.  Matt, you might be a nice guy.  You might be in a tough spot.  But at this point I've reached the conclusion that you are a crook.  You may not intentionally try and defraud anyone, but the list of people you HAVE defrauded is substantial and getting longer.  I suggest for those of you reading this, do not do business with Hobbyworld USA in New Hampshire or Matt Bole, you can find everything you need elsewhere.  Sooner rather than later he will be sitting on your money as a interest free small business loan and you will be completely unable to contact him.
