  1. It never gives *me* ads like that...
  2. Everyone has the right to have whatever views they please. And everyone else has the right to ridicule or call others out if their views are stupid or hateful.
  3. falcon20driver: and I agree with you completely. What I was hoping to illustrate, though, is that to outside observers who didn't know about the dynamic in our group, we probably would've been (actually, not probably, we *were*) dismissed as just another bunch of wasters or freaks or losers or whatever else just looking for the next drug/booze-fuelled adventure. The partying was a way to cope with the crap dumped on us from all sides, and though we made a big show of not giving a damn, in actual fact we all had plans and goals and hopes and we helped each other achieve those goals. The point
  4. I, and most of my friends, came up in rather broken families in suboptimal (but not the worst possible) surroundings. Almost all of us were your stereotypical "party kids", very few of us actually finished high school. Some of us had parents who paid attention (those of us who did, well, we found all manner of ways to get around their surveillance, with considerable success), some of us had parents who were total wasters, only a couple actually had parents who *cared* (they were kinda like parents to all of us). Basically, we partied through our teens and 20s, but we stuck together and looked
  5. 11bee - that was my first thought, too - fantastic reference for weathering details, especially because of the high resolution of the photo. Shorpy is a great site for vintage photos, usually in great quality.
  6. Proof that the corporations are on your side!

  8. Always get a kick out of watching "old people" complain. But more seriously, I've noticed that my best experiences with people - be it in retail or social or random encounters - are with those in two distinct age brackets: those over 60 or so, and the 16-35 group. I'm not a sociologist so I couldn't begin to analyse why, but it would be interesting to find out why it seems so much easier to have respectful and meaningful connections of any sort with these age groups than the one in between. (For the record I am 39).
  9. The first time I felt a quake, I was at my mum's in SoCal, I was 9. I rolled over and went back to sleep, thinking it was a train... the tracks went right by her house.
  10. It may well have been involved in all sorts of interesting things!
  11. Well, now we know it became an NF-4C before 1988. And Steve - it may well have seen action in VN! But - it survived without major incident (which is all what Peake lists).
  12. According to the F-4 Production & Operational Data (Peake): F-4C-20-MC 63-7654 c/n 0762 first flight 5 Nov 1964, flyaway date 21 Dec 1964; redesignated NF-4C ?; wfu 22 May 1992 to AMARC; to Gallatin TN 22 May 1996
  13. Fantastic picture! That would indeed make for an interesting build!
  14. Even the oldest joke is new to a baby. In other words, not everyone has seen everything! :)
  15. So long as it's not a whiff it's fine.
  16. I'd just like to mention that AVGBob will be one of our co-mods! :)
  17. There are a very small number of larger scale builds I'd like to do - a Spitfire is one of them. This would get me doing it!
  18. @DutyCat (not gonna quote the whole post) I had zero privacy. By this I mean, my dad would walk into my room without knocking regardless of if I'm there or not, root through my bags/drawers/whatever thoroughly (i.e. dumping it all out on the floor and looking through (and then yelling at me for the mess)) regardless of whether I'm there or not. Etc and everything else you might imagine. Yes. (this was in the 80s/very early 90s; I left my dad's house for good in 1993, when I was 17). You know what this led to? Two things. First, it taught me to become ever more creative in hiding things and
  19. Iunno. The internet/social media specifically has helped me get over my innate anti-social behaviour. I may be just an exceptional case, but... pre-internet, my social interactions were limited to the essential, or when one of my few friends literally dragged me out. Beyond that, I don't think it'll make any difference. I remember in my teens when they first started putting the large-text warnings on cig packs, all we did was laugh and change the texts (e.g. changing "Cigarettes can harm your baby" to "I can arm your baby" or whatever else). If such notices are noticed, it's mostly just for m
  20. If it didn't actually wear camo and take part in the Vietnam War like that, then it's a "what if" for the purposes of the GB. To phrase it differently, for a subject to be valid for this GB, it has to actually have taken part in the Vietnam War (including the French Indochina War) in the scheme being modelled.
  21. I'd just like to mention that Caracal and Hi-Decals have both agreed to sponsor our GB and will be donating prizes to be raffled at the end. So a huge thank you to KursadA and Diego! :) Also, I'd very much welcome another co-mod or even two, so if you're interested, please send me a PM!
