  1. Considering that such a sheet will contain markings for at least 4-5 different types and a couple options each; including the stencils in 1/48 may not be practical. What do you think-would it be acceptable if the sheets only contained unique unit & aircraft markings?

or not worry about the stencils at all? most kits come with 'em anyways.... a good option might be one aircraft of every type flown by a particular unit/state. either go with the best paint job option or commanders aircraft... that sort of thing.

Kind of like Impact Decals VMAQ-2 sheet - they inlcuded every commander's aircraft starting with the RF-4B all the way to the EA-6B ICAP II (or III, I'd have to go dig out my sheet and look...) - the only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't inlcude the AD-5W, the EF-10B, and the RF-8A... I think the broader range would've been real neat. But then again, Aeromaster had the EF-10B covered, and C&H had the RF-8 VMCJ-2 decals with their conversion.

hope i'm not coming across as "confusing"...

  2. I've never seen one of them in New Zealand, maybe no one carried Monogram here much, I guess I'd be ebaying for this. Pity, as the Fujimi one is local & at a reasonable price so far.

    Steve.

Its an older kit - so you'd probably have to have a look on ebay or post a "wanted" thread over in the buy and sell section. I went and looked it up after I made the initial post - and apparently it's an E - so not quite what you're looking for. I also saw there was an old heller mold out there as well, don't know about the accuracy though...

  3. I think there may be some old Monogram kits you might be able to get your hands on - they're pretty decent.. only it's an E, so you'd only be able to make an AD-5W instead of an AD-4W

  4. I am definitely looking forward to doing my hometown team, the Atlanta Falcons!

I was wondering about that! I saw you were from GA; what made you do the Panther's one first, especially given that we're competition in the same division? The Pure awesomeness of the Panthers paint scheme maybe??

as for the Atlanta scheme - I'm guessing it'll be a Delta aircraft?

    Once again, great work!

BTW - Thanks for the paint instructions!! :D

  5. You did not specify scale, but I am hoping we are talking about 48th? I'd love me some MI ANG 'cals. I'd love to do a 110 TRW RB-57A, a 110 TASG O-2 and an A-10. Of course, then there's the Selfridge units, flying among others the RF-84K, A-7D, F-4C and F-16! Imagine the possibilities?

Oh yes! 48th is a must!

  6. VERY nice build up! Being a Panthers fan, and living just south of Charlotte, I need to find some of those decals sometime.

    Same here!

I must say - this Panthers scheme is PURRRRFECT!!!! outstanding!!!:worship::thumbsup:

and I've always liked that "panthers blue" - great job with getting the shade just right!

  7. H&MS-32 (MALS-32 after 1988 or 89, I forget when the change came) operated the OA-4Ms. H&MS-14/MALS-14 didn't have anything equivalent to the Operational Maintenance Detachment as far as I recall. AFAIK in the late 80s/early 90s the only two-seat Skyhawks to be found on a Marine base were OA-4s, and they were only found at Cherry Pit with MALS-32 OMD and Iwakuni with MALS-12 OMD.

Thanks! Thats good info - I was wondering why it had been so hard to find anything on MALS-14 during that particular timeframe...

    That helps a lot!

Now does anyone make decals for MALS-32 in 1/48??

can't say i'm interested in MALS-12....... (which, if I'm not mistaken, is the kit decals that come with the Monogram/Hasegawa OA-4M?)

  8. My guess is that is when they found orders saying that is when they should be there.

Cool - thanks! I also noticed that H&MS-32 (MALS-32) was out there as well till 93 when they were merged into MALS-14, and they operated OA-4Ms - which I think is what I remember seeing on the flight line all those times - seeing as it has a different look than the TA-4F/J.

  9. Okay, question...

a little bit ago, I was pondering aircraft and units associated with 2nd MAW/MCAS Cherry Point for a project I have in the works... Well, I got to thinking and remembered seeing some TA-4's or OA-4's out on the tarmac there in the early 90's on more than one occasion, parked out in front of one of the hangers. (I think they were permanent party there since they were out there every time I visited; sometimes it was just one, other times it was 2 or 3, but they had a pretty consistant presence out there) Now, I went to try and see what unit that was and the exact kind of A-4 (whether it's O's or T's, etc...) , but I'm not having much success in finding info on google or wikipedia. I get some info, but it's not giving me much in agreement with the timeframe (between '92 and '94 for me. I found some info on google about ones that were out there as late as 90-91, but then I can't find any info on the unit other than it's was out at Cherry Point, can't find anything detailed or specific).

Any of you Leathernecks out there know what I'm talking about? Any help and info would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Justin

  10. A most unpleasant experience, one I know quite well myself. My thoughts are prayers go out to you Steve! I hope that the light of your father's life will shine through the darkness of this experience, and that the closeness between you and your family during this time will bring you great comfort. :(

    Justin
