  1. Well, for one you'll need the wolfpack ICAP III update set; and I don't know what the best cockpit available would be for ya, but I know aires makes the late ICAP II which is pretty decent, and probably your best option. HTH

  2. The signal is better? im guessing these folk have tested the actual radio signal that the device recieves as opposed to the signal strength the phones software reports it has... the two things are not related to each other.

Thats the problem, not only with version 4 but with all of them.

    Can you show this info?

the one particular fella was telling me he was getting signal in areas he never got it before with his new one

  3. I'm happy as hopefully all of the whiners can get off the ATT cell forums and move on over.

The "horror" stories associated with AT&T are overblown. I've never had a problem with them. Any company is going to have certain locations where their coverage is spotty and the other guys are better. That works both ways. For those who want to swap over to V, enjoy the slower 3G speeds, the inability to use voice and data at the same time, the inability to use the phone in many places outside the US, the need to buy a new phone since GSM phones won't work on V's network, and the EFT you have to pay if you are still in contract.

I dunno - maybe from your perspective - but I know folks who work for AT&T who had issues left and right with regard to the network (in oklahoma) - and were adamant about it not being an issue with the phone - but more of the network. As for the whole using voice and data at the same time; who cares? I don't see why thats such a big selling point... Thats the only perk I've seen AT&T push for a while...

As for buying a completely different phone, that's not necessarily the case - my BBerry Storm 2 works with GSM and CDMA, you merely have to select which you care to use. And seeing how I am a spammer....please report this post. is going to be on both types of network - I think it'd make sense to have that level of cross-compatability already handy. I know some iPhones have been unlocked and are used with other networks; so that may not be as big an issue as you make it.

I think at this point I'd wait and see if the 5 coming out in June/July will be an LTE phone. It may not be, but if it is, those who jumped on the 4 and locked into contract are going to be pretty disappointed.

It's supposed to be from my understanding. Lets hope that holds true

No they're not. Not even a little tiny bit overblown in my experience.

I owned a fruitphone for about 18 hours this summer. I got it about 3:00 Friday afternoon. I opened the package, plugged the thing in and got it all set up via the AT&T web site - and had no signal. I thought it was something I'd done, so I called AT&T. Their response? "Have you tried going outside?" Seriously? But see, I actually live *inside* my house. I live in a city of 150,000 people along a major interstate corridor, and I had NO signal in my house. Not a single bar. AT&T asked me what m Zip Code was, and when I told them, they said that there *should* be signal in my are (Really? Y'think?), and that they were going to be installing a new tower very near my house "sometime in 2011". Really? How nice for you.

So first thing Saturday morning I marched myself down to the AT&T store to see what they could do. The answer was, nothing. Nothing except to tell me how great their service was and to go out of his way to tell me how lousy Verizon's service was. Really? Funny, I've had Verizon for almost ten years and only very, very rarely have a call drop, and am almost *never* without signal around this area. Even when I lived waaaaaaay out in the country, I had a Verizon signal. I told AT&T to cancel my service and I returned the fruitphone to Fruitco in California. For months afterward AT&T tried to collect $375 from me for an "early termination fee". Funny, I never actually *had* service, and I never placed or received a call with them. I told them to stick their fee where the sun don't shine. And they wonder why people hate them?

WOW, no service in the Valley? I didn't realize Roanoke was 150,000? When did it get that big?? I've been gone too long...... I had that kinda service with Sprint when I moved out west - it was so bad, they didn't bother trying to convince me to stay, they were actually really agreeable! apparently they were able to see all my dropped calls... I didn't have signal in my house at all, in fact, I had to wander around the yard in an attempt to get signal - it was pathetic. AT&T told me not to bother with them cause of where I live back when I was looking to switch - they actually told me verizon was my best bet (i found that ammusing to say the least). My family tried to get me to go with t mobile but they live in Charlotte and can't get signal in their own home, so I told them no thanks, lol.

Verizon has been super agreeable though - I've driven just about 3/4's of the country and was hardly out of 3G service, except between Hobbs NM and Big Spring TX - I still had service, just not the 3G. Everywhere else I've been has been awesome. Though there are areas where military bases are that are either contracted out to sprint/or nothing works there.

So what are my thoughts on a Verizon fruitphone? When can I get one and where do I sign?

    apparently 2/10/11!!!

I'll switch phones when they do, the people I know that have them love them except for the AT&T service they are stuck with. I use a b-lackberry with Verizon now and hate it (the b-lackberry), I like the virtual keyboard better.

I use the Storm 2, and it's a pain in the butt........ for the most part I like it - but it works when it wants to. It's certainly no i-ph-one or droid... tried talking my wife into getting a droid at first; but besides the fact it was bulky - it wasn't that impressive; except that it operated pretty fast. Some folks bash the fruitphone saying the android is better - and with all my friends that have one, verses the apple, it's pretty disappointing. I thought about switching to a droid myself cause my Storm 2 was getting pretty aggravating - but after playing with it, I decided to hold off. Glad I waited, cause now the i-ph-one is here. my wife wound up going with the Palm Pre; thats actually a pretty neat little phone. I remember when I first got my BBerry, I though Verizon was slow with their data - but as it was, it was just the BBerry - cause it did it both on phone signal, and wifi - the palm pre is pretty fast when working off the network; I was impressed.

The bad signal is mostly down the AT&T yes, but also with the most recent incarnation of the Apple wonder toy the signal problem was highlighted to such a degree that it is unuseable unless its in a case that means you dont touch the metal edge.

This problem also highlighted problems on earlier phones from them, and the fact that the OS reports the signal strength as stronger than it actually is.

So when you have a bad signal it tells you its better than it really is...

That stylish look costs you more than you might think!

I wouldnt have one, not any of them, there is something better out there for you... there really not the thinking mans phone.

I'm with jennings on this one - I also know folks with the newest "4", and apparently they get better signal now than before, despite what some have noted.

  4. Just curious, but since the news (a surprise by no means) of the Verizon version of apple's phone coming to us V customers. (finally!), I was curious as to what everyone's thoughts were. Me personally, I'm thrilled! I've been wanting forever and a day (this being the biggest reason I went with V when I switched from sprint (sprint dropped so many calls, not to mention I couldn't be in my house and talk on the phone at the same time)).

Thought about going with ATT, but they don't cover where I live, not to mention the horror stories associated with their service.

Now, there's also the other angle to this - V's LTE network, and the eventual i-ph-one 5, which are set to be out around June- July timeframe. The reason I bring this up is because for you i-ph-one fans out there - are you gonna make the switch now? Or wait for the new "5" to show its face? As for me, I'm undecided - though if I wait till June, its free! :)

    So anyhoo - your thoughts?

  5. And really nice cases too! I bet those would cost a boat-load for someone to custom build here.

All depends; how many arms and legs do you have left?

That is an impressive collection! I think I hurt my jaw when it hit the floor!....... :monkeydance:

  6. i've got a whole bunch in a box in the back room that I built and played with as a kid - the oldest/first kit I ever made (one my dad and I built); was an old kit I got at some sort of "base sale" on SJ AFB back in '92. it was an 1/72 scale Monogram A-10. Not sure how old the actual kit is - my guess is mid to late 80's cause I remember the box was rather worn. Anyhoo - I still have it (in pieces, sadly). I had some good memories playing with that kit - blowing up my little green army men's tanks (which were roughly the same scale, which I liked)

as for the others, I have an 80's F-105G and a 70's A-4 - both 1/48 Monogram that I built as a kid - both I still have! I played with those also.

since then I think my oldest kit is the early 80's F-80C, which has been in progress for almost 2 years - had some breaks in-between.

  7. right on :sunrevolves:

That was okay. Still pretty boring... those guys were mostly annoying, but there /were/ a few gems in their prattle.

"Hey, it's Budgie the helicopter!" I nearly choked on my drink. :)

BTW, what kind of helo was that?

It's a husky. I think if I remember hearing correctly, there's only one left thats flyable, somewhere on the west coast.

Thats pretty funny - I like the references made during the in-flight refueling... "Oh sweet mystery of life I've finally found you!...", "Are you trying to seduce me Mrs. Robinson?", "The big plane thinks I'm CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!", etc...

    or while at the gate...

"The Air Force is that way"

and lets not forget the "poopie suit" song....

    etc...etc....

    list is endless :D

  8. I just finished watching "The Starfighters".

    I am dumbfounded.

This movie, if it didn't have the talk scenes and just showed the flying with engine noise instead of music, would've been great.

But they managed to turn otherwise sweet footage of Starfighters into the most spectacularly boring thing I've ever seen.

I'm awestruck. I never, ever thought watching F-104s could be boring.

I take it you didn't seen the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode of the same title and movie? By itself, horrendous! But with Mike and the Bots making wisecracks throughout the movie, it definitely makes it easier to sit through. I heartily recommend watching that episode, they have it on Netflix instant queue if you have that. It made it so funny that I've wound up watching it 3 or 4 times in the last month...... I think it would greatly ease your troubles...... And what's not to like about MST3K's take on it? As Crow said "The US needs to get out of this movie" - and the poopie-suit song they sing to the music at the end will have you in tears from laughing so hard......

Definitely makes a bad movie better. As for the movie itself, think of it as a lousy fighter pilot story, written and directed by fighter pilots, telling the story of fighter pilots through their eyes (hence the 15 min of in-flight refueling at the beginning, and the senator/retired bomber pilot father who keeps trying to get his son transfered to SAC...... It wouldve been better titled "a fighter pilots life")

Like I said, watch the MST3K episode ang you'll feel better!

    HTH,

    Justin

  9. OK, so the GB has been going on for some time now - but alas, I've finally gotten to get some work done!

    IMG_8392.jpg

First up is this 1/72 EF-111A Raven (courtesy of Antonov - thanks again kind sir!). It is being built completely OOB - no aftermarket, period. Kit has been fairly easy so far - I've primarily been assembling the kit in "groups" - that way I can make painting and final assembly easier. Here's what I have so far:

    IMG_8397.jpg

    IMG_8398.jpg

thats it for now, till next time... Merry Christmas! :D

  10. time for a quick, and much overdue update:

as it stands, the intruder hasn't seen that much more work right this second - have done some minor work as time and weather have permitted - most of what I need to finish is painting, so I've not had a whole lot of opportunity to do so, especially with the temps being the way they are. Thankfully, it's heated up; so I should get some work taken care of on it over the next couple of weeks. pics to follow.....

and in the mean time, I've been working on some other kits, so I'll be posting pictures of the builds in the "in-progress" sections over the next day or two.

    thats it for now :D

  11. FYI - Gunze apparently only sends 2 or 3 shipments to the USA per year which is why there are shortages between shipments. We have been advised that a shipment is enroute for an arrival of December 2010.

Wow, how big are those shipments?

Guess I'd better be watching so I can stock up before the hoarding begins! :)

  12. Even in Alaska ?

    is this a real scheme?

    snow camo

Nope - custom civillian job. Its a surplus military version with custom lights under the grill (not found on US military types) and on the back left corner, you can see the license plate.

    HTH

  13. That drove me crazy too. and Skyraider! You should be ashamed for using such low tactics! :taunt:

Oh please - just cause you weren't that good at it :coolio: ............its legit! Camping on the other hand.... Please...... And that no scope crap is stupid too - and let's not forget modded controllers and lag switches... (love those full-auto fal's.....)

I usually did it in hard core- so if I got you in the first place - you pretty much deserved it with as easy as it is to shoot people (though the black ops hard core sucks - takes a few shots to kill someone now..... I miss the days of where hard core meant they died when you shot them; not dump a clip in their back and then they turn around and kill you....... at point blank range.....)

It was too easy in regular core... Not challenging enough. :)

    Edit: didn't realize hard+core = ******

  14. Well if you have 2 controllers you can split screen it and play online alongside your lad .... how cool is that :)

One of the guys I play with on a regular basis plays with his two boys (granted, they have 3 xboxes so they can all be on at the same time).

It is interesting though that there are a larger number of gamers that I play with that are in the 55-33 age group - I think its cool; wouldn't have thought that so much.

  15. Yeah, my wife enjoys the fact that they added split-screen online multiplayer. It means she gets some game time too, lol.

    my gamertag is wh1skea

I have to say this "Halo 3" feature that they've added is THE best part of the black ops experience. My wife plays with me as well now. So its a nice feature. I just wish that there were search parameters just like in Halo - that would root out a lot of lousy rooms where the signal sucks.

  16. I sold MW2 after doing the single player and most of the co-op. The multiplayer was just giving me fits. There were guys running around in full armour and stabbing everyone so they could get their streak kills. I am sorry - that is just plain stupid.

Does Black Ops have this too?

not armor - lightweight, commando pro and marathon with the tac knife option......and good timing (you have to have good reflexes for the knife.....)

Black ops doesn't have this, sadly, as I rather enjoyed that setup.........

I still think MW2 online multiplayer is better as far as weapons /killstreak selection goes - though there are some new options I like in black ops. The crossbow is a nice touch.

Campers are always a pain - but that's where the tac knife setup in mw2 was great and really handy.

    But zombies are definitely cool.

As far as story goes, the new MoH has call of duty beat by a mile; though Cod still has far superior multiplayer.

  17. Did you mean to write "does", or "does not"? It makes a difference.

In any event, come on man! Marlow doesn't write the frickin' AR's. You know that. They're out to make a buck. On top of that I posted directly from the AR!!

I'm done with this discussion. It's like wrestling a pig. You don't accomplish anything, and the pig enjoys it.

    Bye,

    Mark

No need to be so snippy - if you've ever been to marlow whites website regarding the asu - there's a regulation section for the ALARACT messages straight from DA. I was saying you were right, according to the ALARACT - it states that the coat is indeed blue.

  18. Here is the description from AR 670-1...

    20–2. Composition

The Army blue uniform comprises a dark-blue coat, dark-blue or light-blue trousers, a white turndown-collar shirt, and a black bow tie or black four-in-hand necktie.

(The dark-blue trousers are for general officers only.)

I'm not doubting that you see "your" jacket as black -- and as modelers we all know how much to trust internet interpretation of colors -- but according to every reference I've seen, as well as my own uniform hanging in my closet (albeit being 25 years old) that sucker is very much dark blue. Really.

I agree that the contrast between the stripes and jacket are exceptional, and with the lighter shade of blue used for the thread in the stripes may lead one to believe that the jacket is truly black, however the color of the jacket is in fact a very, very dark blue.

Anyway, as adamant you seem to be about this, without malice, and as much as I'm not trying to start a war or anything, you are wrong.

    Mark

Can't access the 670-1 from my phone - but the update message on marlow white does say blue coat. Touche (if that's how its spelled - phone is no help here).

  19. I spoke to a long time army bud of mine here in Kuwait about the ASU. The jacket is a real dark blue, not black, BUT, the background materiel of the stripes are a different shade than the jacket. He wasn't sure why, probably those stripes are leftovers in the system from the outgoing dress blues. He hasn't bought then himself as they are expensive, & he's only got bout two years till retirement.

I was always under the impression that the difference in shade between the dark blue jacket, & the lighter blue pants stemmed from the days of the cavalry, where the pants were worn on a daily basis, but the jacket was only worn on special occasions/inspections. The pants were washed frequently & the washing methods of the time faded the blue dye quickly. It became tradition sometime after that. Can't remember where I read that. Must of been some years ago while I was preparing for a Soldier of the Month board or something like that.

No - it is most definitely black - I have two sets and both are, indeed, black. I say again, BLACK....

As for the rank, as long as I've had 'em, the rank has always had the dark navy blue look to it, and when I was at clothing and sales back in Sept - the new style stuff was just about all they carried, and the new service stripes/overseas bars have the same dark navy blue outline/edge and still stands out against a very much black jacket. So its not going anywhere.

P.S. The black tie and the black jacket match, I just checked, again.....
